Court Our Lady of the Holy Trinity March, 2017

Message from the Regent Dear CDA Sisters!

Can you believe this CDA year is passing so quickly? The holidays are just a distant memory, but it hasn’t really been that long. We are in a New Year: a Saturday spiritual workshop was given in January; we had a successful bake sale in February; our MAJOR fundraiser for the year, the 5th annual style show, is April 2nd ; and the Texas State Convention is the end of April. We have also received and awarded our first Charitable Giving Grant in January. Our Court and its members are VERY busy ladies. In September, I asked each of you to think about what you could do to help OUR court to serve and minister to God’s people as we reflected on Isaiah’s answer.

Message from the Regent Cont…..

Isaiah heard God saying, “Whom should I send? Who will go for us?” Isaiah answered, “Here I am. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8) I could not be prouder being a part of CDA with all of you. You are certainly answering the calls to help fulfill our mission of service. Let’s ALL keep up the good work and when asked to help answer, “Here I am.” Sheryl

My husband of 24 years & I were born and raised in Corpus Christi,

Texas. We moved to San Antonio four years ago this coming May

and love this historic city but we especially love the woodsy

Timberwood Park area where we live. We retired in 2009, I as an

IRS Revenue Agent for over 32 years, he as an oilfield worker for

35 plus years. My widowed father who had a stroke lived with us in

Corpus Christi for his last 2 years of life until he passed away in 2013.

My parents were well involved in our parish church activities growing up and set a

good example of devotion to our Lord God and of volunteerism for my siblings and me.

We love to travel often visiting our children and grandchildren who live in Corpus

Christi and Virginia Beach, VA and one who was living in Anchorage, Alaska for a few

years. Occasionally my husband & I sell arts and crafts at the monthly Helotes

Marketplace. That’s more of a hobby though. In my “spare” time, I enjoy playing my

guitar, going to the movies, eating out, crafting and reading.

I joined CDA in 2009 when living in Corpus Christi and joined our local court in 2013.

I feel proud and blessed to be part this wonderful Catholic women’s group whose

members generously volunteer in so many ways. Thank you for your friendship and

for allowing me to serve as your Financial Secretary.

REFLECTION CORNER

“This is my beloved son, in which I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17 Page 6

Humility We are now in Ordinary Time having concluded the beautiful liturgical season of Christmas. I call it the in-between time because we are straddling two extraordinary liturgical seasons, Christmas & Lent. Both seasons mirror the virtue of humility for me. The word humility comes from the same root as humus, that rich soil that yields the most bountiful harvests. The Solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ is such a show of humility on the part of God. God could have just saved us from heaven from the stain of original sin. He did not have to send us his Son to dwell among us & take on our human nature in all things but sin, but he did so we can relate to Jesus on a personal level. Secondly, Jesus could have come as a mighty warrior with legions of angels to protect him & do his bidding. Instead, Jesus came as a helpless baby with human parents to care for him because his kingdom is not built on might but on mercy. Lastly, Jesus could have come as a king with all the comforts & trappings of this station in life. Instead, he lived in the most ordinary of circumstances with no advantages, because he was born into poverty, because we are poor of spirit. Jesus came to us as the rich, broken soil of humus, so his life could yield the most bountiful harvest in our lives. St John Vianney reveals how profound humility is at the heart of this great feast of Christmas, & gives us the grace to plant in hope, to persevere through trials of drought & storms of tribulation, so we can reap in joy. Now it is our turn during the Lenten season to embrace humility by allowing ourselves to be touched by Jesus & loving God first from our hearts. We should face the truth of our human condition by assessing the motives behind our actions, & always seeking the truth & a peaceful balance between overarching pride & crippling self-condemnation. From humility, will grow gratitude & the grace to see beyond our own needs & wants to realize everyone is made in the image & likeness of God. Reflection: How are we humbly preparing for Lent?

Court 2661 members are called to volunteer… A hospitality room was organized by Julie Seguin for the visiting Bishops and Priests who were in town for Archbishop Patrick F. Flores’ funeral, rosary and mass on Monday, January 16 and January 17, 2017. The location was at the Plaza de la Cruz next to San Fernando Cathedral . Archbishop Gustavo Siller Garcia, Bishops, Priests, and Seminarian attended.

A Lenten Prayer Lord Jesus, Redeemer of all, hear my prayer. For the love you bear to those who ask forgiveness, look mercifully on me, as once you looked on Mary Magdalene and on Peter who denied you. Look on me, Lord Jesus Christ, as you looked on the thief on his cross and on every sinner whom you have ever forgiven. Look on me, merciful Lord, as you looked on your mother, Mary, standing in sorrow beneath your cross. Let me feel in my heart her compassion for you and let my eyes weep for the sorrows my sins have caused. Call me from darkness to my Father’s house; give me a new heart and at your side at the banquet of your kingdom. Amen

It All Went By So Fast

A husband and wife were celebrating 50 years of marriage with a big anniversary party. At one point they were toasted, then asked what it’s like to be married for 50 years. The wife, known to have a quick wit, replied, “It all seems like five minutes....under water.”
