FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Sunday, June 20, 2021

10 am

In-Person Worship

Virtual (Live Stream) Worship

Sermon Topic: “A Portrait of a Blessed Father”

Sermon Text: Psalm 1

Old Testament Reading: Job 38:1–11 (God puts creature Job in his place.)

Epistle Reading: 2 Corinthians 6:1–13 (No matter the circumstances, now is the day of salvation.)

Holy Gospel: Mark 4:35–41 (Jesus amazes the disciples by stilling the storm.)

Greetings family and friends of SPLC! Though much is made of the smallness of the mustard seed, the

focus of Jesus is on outcome—the plant that becomes large enough to give nest and shade to all the birds of the

air. The kingdom of God seems small and even irrelevant in the face of large problems, challenges, and problems

of this mortal life, and yet it is the kingdom of God that is great. God gives to us the forgiveness that makes a

clear conscience, the life that is stronger than death, and the joy that is greater than every joy this world can

deliver. In this way, the small seed makes for a great plant, large enough for us to find refuge and a home in its

shade. How the kingdom of God grows may seem part of the mystery, but we know that it is a seed planted in the

good soil and fed and nourished by God’s grace to the day when the harvest delivers us into His presence

forevermore.

Be encouraged in the Lord!

We have returned to in person worship at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Center for

Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported that Jacksonville vaccinated

numbers are high. We will continue to follow the CDC recommendations (temperature

checks, mask wearing, and social distancing). There is ample space at St. Paul

Lutheran Church (300 seating capacity) which allows for you to worship and maintain

social distancing, but please know if you are still in a place where you don't feel quite ready to return; we do

understand. Having you worship in person with us will make our service so much better and help us get back to

where we were before COVID-19.

Be Blessed,

Rev. Frank Marshall, Sr.

Vacancy Pastor

Join us this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Frank Marshall, Sr., Pastor Emeritus will lead the worship service. We have returned to indoor in-person worship. Registration is no longer required. We are however continuing to require face mask, temperature check and six feet distancing.

Church family, we’re regrettably missing far too many of you at Sunday morning “in person” worship service. And, to be honest, we’re baffled as to why? Why the hesitation? Surely everyone is not on lockdown – no longer going out into the world to attend to life matters. Has our greatest fear come to fruition – that members of our SPLC family have gotten comfortable being away from in-person worship – that they are relying on virtual or live stream worship services intended for temporary use during the pandemic?

Fourth Sunday after Pentecost Father’s Day

Sunday Morning Worship June 20, 2021 - 10:00 a.m.

NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED

It is our prayer that very soon we will all “gather in the sanctuary to offer our worship and praise as we sing glory, hallelujah to the Lord who shall forever reign.” While you may be watching our worship service on YouTube, realize that there is a difference between that and in person worship – especially the way it makes you feel. Part of “being the body of Christ” is being together. So, plan to be at worship this Sunday remembering that we are the church – not the physical structure – but we, the people of God.

Greetings Faith Based Partners,

June is Men’s Health Month, a national observance used to

raise awareness about health care for men and focus on

encouraging boys, men and their families to practice and

implement healthy living decisions, such as exercising and

eating healthy. We invite you to join us in promoting

messages: “The Five Plays for Men’s Health”, that remind men and boys that they can improve their

health by seeking medical advice and taking other important steps, such as making healthy food

choices, staying active, quitting smoking, getting regular checkups and taking care of their mental

health. Each week will be a tip. Save the date and mark your calendars for a virtual Men’s Health

Summit, Tuesday June 29th @ 6:30pm. More details will be forth coming.

As You Prepare to Return to Worship… May you feel content with the knowledge that you are loved and treasured by God and your brothers and sisters in Christ. May you feel relaxed and at peace knowing that the Lord is aware of your every need and He has promised to meet them. May you feel a sense of gratitude as you remember your blessings and may you find comfort knowing that someone is praying for you today. May the Lord’s blessing be upon you today and every day! Amen.

Health Ministry……

Christian Education Celebrating our Children Sunday June 20, 2021 during morning worship. Robert H. Schuller once said, “Today’s

accomplishments were yesterday’s impossibilities.” The Education Ministry is requesting all youth to submit their report cards and

accomplishments, to be recognized on Sunday, June 20, 2021. Please submit information to [email protected].

Congratulations to a great and challenging school term. Sylvia Hagans

Are you ready?

Hurricane season runs June 1st - Nov. 30th, with a peak in

August and September.

In Wednesday’s lesson, “The Wise King,” when God invites Solomon to ask for what he

desires most, Solomon prays for wisdom to carefully lead the people. Pleased with this

selfless request, God grants Solomon great wealth and honor in addition to his desired

wisdom. Solomon wrote and collected many of the wisdom writings that make up the Book

of Proverbs.

ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH – MIDWEEK BIBLE STUDY – JUNE 23, 2021

Unit 5 STUDY GUIDE

Lesson 13

THE WISE KING

Solomon Prays for Wisdom

1 Kings 3:5–15;

Proverbs 3:1–12

BIBLE TRUTH

Wisdom is a gift from God.

LEARNER GOAL

I can analyze the text for what it shows me about God’s gift of wisdom and rightly apply that to my own life.

BIBLE VERSE

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. Proverbs 1:7

Class Reflections

OPENING REFLECTION Think of the wisest person you’ve ever met. What was he or she like, and

what do you think made him or her so wise?

1 KINGS 3:5–9 What was it that Solomon asked for specifically, and why did it matter so much to the

Lord? What does this look like in our own lives?

1 KINGS 3:10–15 Why do you think God gives so much to Solomon? What can we learn from this about

the role of seeking God’s will in our lives?

PROVERBS 3:1–12 What’s one verse or phrase from this section of Proverbs that really sticks out to you

about what godly wisdom is? Why is that, and why do you think it sticks out to you right now?

FINAL REFLECTION Analyze the text for what it shows you about God’s gift of wisdom and how it

applies to your life right now.
