Mrs Barsby is the teacher that not only has the greatest respect from her teaching colleagues but any student who has been taught by her knows that her passion to get the best from every child in her care is always her ultimate focus. Mrs Barsby enjoy your break and thank you for all that you do. Report Cards Report cards have gone home today and I encourage you to spend some time going through the report card. Our teachers would be only too happy to meet with you if you would like to clarify any areas within the report card. Sports Day Thursday is our sports day and I encourage you to come along to the Weier Oval and support our students. We will be having the kindy kids come down for a quick run before heading back to the Kindy. This is going to be a great day for all students. The P and C have organised some fantastic food that will be served so you may want give your child/ren some money to support the P and C. If you have some spare time to help out in the canteen I am sure that too would be greatly appreciated. Do not forget hats, sunscreen and a water bottle! See you all on Thursday. 100% Attendance Club HUGE congratulations to the below 34 people. Not only have they managed to stay healthy at this time of year but they have managed to come to school every day. This Wednesday these students will be taken to the news and take away for pizza, chips and some lemonade. Congratulations to: Jakob H - Poppy - Rachel M - Ruby - Summer M - Zac 100% for an entire year - Maddisyn - Chloe - Sasha - Lucas - Lachlan - Talen - Tyler Anna - Justin - Zane - Ethan A - Indy A - Lane B - Wyatt - Tyrone Tyson - Isaac - Luke - Braidy - Alyssia - Jackson - Keira - Georgia Kane - Keelie - Jacob K - Regan & Buea. Every Day Matters. Our school goal is to keep our students coming 95% of the time. This equates to no more than 2.5 days off a term. Rewards Day Rewards day is this Friday. Students in the high school have decided to be a little lazy and listen to music and watch a movie whilst eating hot chips. Our primary tier one students have chosen to have a disco and play some games. These two rewards are for the students who have displayed exceptional behaviour and abided by our school rules of Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible. Free Dress Days My wife was incredible excited on Tuesday morning as she realised that for the rest of the term no more uniforms were needed. As always State of Origin day is a time to support the greatest team on earth (Queensland). If you happen to be a Blues supporter you may find yourself in detention ;). On Thursday come along in either green or yellow to support your school sporting team at Weier Oval. Friday is the last day of school which is traditionally free dress day. Continued Over Page….

Hi All, As the holidays are fast approaching, I thought these sites might come in handy if you are looking for fun things to do together. Here are a couple of sites that have some great activity ideas for the holidays : https://www.google.com.au/?gws_rd=ssl#safe=strict&q=holiday+fun+to+do or Google beafunmum.com and check out some fun ideas. Try cooking some simple recipes together on the holidays from taste.com.au Here is a thought from Chappy: If I had my child to raise over again : I’d finger paint more and point the finger less I would do less correcting and more connecting, I’d take my eyes off my watch and watch with my eyes. I’d take more hikes and fly more kites. I’d stop playing serious and seriously play. I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars. I’d do more hugging and less tugging. I would be firm less often and affirm much more, I’d model less about the love of power, and more about the Power of Love. Adapted from words by Dianne Loomans.

Cheers, Chappy Janelle

Farewell from Mrs Barsby

Farewell !! Friday will be my last day teaching at Kilkivan School as I am taking long service leave. I started here in July 1984 to help a friend, the Regional Director at the time, as he could not find anyone to replace a Home Economics teacher who was being married. I was supposed to be here for only 6 weeks and that is where the story began. I thank all those people - students, staff, and parents - who have been part of my journey. Teaching has been my life; my Mum taught here as well, in the late 1940’s. To say that education has changed is an understatement; but some things never change or they only become part of a cyclic system. Many ‘new’ concepts are quite often adaptations of older concepts with a new ‘buzz’ name. I wish all of the students every success: Remember to Believe in yourself and the adults who are assisting you; work hard (Strive) to achieve your goals whether they be short or long term and self-actualisation (Achievement) should occur. Robyn Barsby Year 10 Textiles This term Cassy May Thompson, under instruction from Erin Barkle and myself, has created a lap quilt using a variety of techniques. Cassy is very happy with her final product and would like to thank Erin Barkle for all her assistance and resources. Techniques include:

Machine embroidery Three techniques for machine applique Patchwork Shibori Japanese dyeing Lino print Batik Stencilling Screen printing
