January Deadline: Dec. 10Please send your submissions to Laurie Gibbs: [email protected].

The pressures around this holiday have continued to increase over the years: Higher expectations.

Taking on too much. Over spending. Depersonalization. Laments about what the season has become

and yet falling prey before the “demands.” Eating too much, drinking too much, doing too much.

And we find it so difficult to get off the Christmas merry-go-round that isn’t always so merry.

Christmas is, after all, the celebration of Jesus—Jesus coming into the world, Jesus as a

baby, Jesus with us now, Jesus at work in our lives to bring peace that passes all human

understanding, and reconciliation with those whose relationships we have broken, and love

that heals and makes whole.

So, perhaps, this Christmas we could focus on Jesus and let go of anything and everything

that pulls us away from him—or at least keep all those hectic demands in their proper

place. And, perhaps, we could spend time with Jesus as well as all the other people we

love and who love us in a way that makes us whole.

Just a thought. And, perhaps, we could do those things so that when we look back

in January, we could say we have truly made Christmas this year the best of times.

Christmas It was the best of times. It was worst of times…

Which will it be this year for you? And what will

make it whatever it turns out to be?

May you have the best, most Jesus-filled Christmas ever!
