WORSHIP FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 -A return to Live streaming

This Sunday, September 6, our worship will be live streamed on Facebook Live at9:00am from the church.  Brian Williams is on vacation, so we will gather virtually topray the Office of Morning Prayer with Beth Royalty.  You will be able to enter yourown prayer requests on the comment section of our Calvary Facebook page.  Therewill be no pre-recorded service on YouTube this week.  Next week, September 13, isthe Feast of Holy Cross, our church’s feast day. We will have a pre-recorded serviceand also worship outside, weather permitting, at 9:00am and 11:00am.

Dear Friends:

We face another calendar holiday that just doesn’t feel like it normally does, exceptthat the weather will change, as always, on Labor Day. How many of you were likeme this week, oblivious to the long “holiday” weekend ahead?  With so muchbusyness and worries over school starting, with the ongoing strange schedule ofsometimes working at home, sometimes in the office, and with no effective get-away vacation this summer, no State Fair, few of the normal summer rituals, we arestill in the middle of the reorganization of time, the redefinition of what time means, perhaps the redefinition of what work means as so many families this week had toreconfigure working spaces to accommodate children and their school needs. We livein both human time and God’s time - chronos  and kairos.  Our culture demands thatwe live by clocks and calendars; we create rituals and annual events to help mark ourhuman times. We count on the passage of lives - from birth to childhood, adulthoodand onwards until we pass fully and completely into God’s time after death. But evenin life, with calendars and clocks and appointments and daylight time gettingshorter, we dwell in God’s time, where clocks and busyness don’t really matter asmuch as the work God is doing in each of us. In God’s time, it is the voice and the callof the Holy Spirit that matters, and the knowledge that whatever is happening in our

lives, we are wrapped closely in God’s love, and are always in God’s consideration.

In God’s time, grace and redemption are paramount, and in our human time, whenthe world feels utterly unsteady, when communities and our country feels broken byso many things, we count on God’s promise to us that God will never abandon us,but that God is actively working among us, in the broken places, in the shadows, inthe anger and urgency and fear, even in what feels like chaos, to create new life. Godalways creates new life from chaos, new life from death, new life from the darknessof the tomb. In God’s time, God’s light always shines, and the darkness will neverwin.

I pray that you will find your own time this weekend to know that you dwell in God’stime, and take time to breathe, to pray, to contemplate the wonders and the joys ofcreation, to pay attention to stories that give you joy, and to love the ones God hasgiven you to love.  Take some time to invite hope into your mind and your heart andgather your strength and courage and faith to meet the days ahead. Remember thatyou are never alone, but you are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, friends, family, and the people of Calvary who gather weekly, in person or virtually, to pray. As St. Julian of Norwich so famously reminds us, “all shall be well, and all shall bewell, and all manner of thing shall be well.” In God’s time, all shall be well.

In love and gratitude,

Beth+

Until the day that we can all be together for worship again, we are reviving one ofour special traditions - the giving of flowers for the altar. These flower will brightenup the sanctuary, allow folks to find a way to participate in the worship process, andpossibly bring a smile to parishioner living alone or feeling isolated. If you would liketo purchase flowers for an upcoming service, please contact Linda in the office [email protected] or by phone at 507-282-9429.

Share some joy with your Calvary family!
