School Captains and Vice Captains lead our “PA assembly”

ASSEMBLY VIA ZOOM

Last term students enjoyed our Wednesday afternoon K-6 assemblies via zoom. These were hosted by

Student Leaders from my office and they were fun. As we are still unable to hold regular assemblies due

to health restrictions, it is important that we still remain connect as a school community. This term I

decided to ‘take the show on the road’ and ensure all of our student leaders have opportunities. As such

each class will be hosting a zoom assembly this term. Yesterday we had a great time hosting from 4S &

6S. Thank you to the students from both classes and to their elected Student Representative Council

members- Joseph & Lilian (4S), Derek and Cindy (6S) who led the assembly.

CHILD PROTECTION

Our Protecting and Supporting Children and Young People Policy sets out roles and responsibilities of

staff in relation to child protection including training, reporting on safety, and supporting children and

young people, as well as monitoring, evaluation and reporting requirements. For more information about

this please visit our school website

NEWSLETTER

This term, as part of the Personal Development Health and Physical Education syllabus, classroom

teachers will explicitly teach Child protection. Please see the attached PDF of the ‘even year’ lessons to

be taught this term. Please speak to your child about what he/she is learning and ways to keep

themselves safe. If you have any questions about this program, please email the school and a member

of the school executive will contact you.

SEMESTER ONE REPORTS

As outlined last term at the P & C meeting and in the week 7 newsletter the Executive team met and revised our current format in light of the guidelines from the NSW Department of Education.

“Under the department’s Curriculum planning and programming, assessing and reporting to parents K-12 policy, schools are required provide parents/carers, throughout the school year, with formal and informal opportunities to receive information about and discuss their child's learning. Schools should review the temporary changes to this policy that have been put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The changes apply to Semester 1 2020 only. Student reports for Semester 2 will need to be delivered using the A to E grading.” (Source: NSW DOE Reporting to parents/carers school guide flyer May 2020). To enable assessment of learning at school, in line with advice, reports will be sent home in Term 3 week 5. As per guidelines, the report will not have A-E (outstanding, high, sound, basic and limited) grading. Teachers will rate student effort and report on areas of strength and guidance to move learning forward (next steps). The report will also include a brief comment on student learning behaviours.

EDUCATION WEEK

3rd – 7th August is Education Week. The theme is Learning Together. As we are unable to host parents onsite at school due to health and safety regulations, alternative activities are being planned for that week. More details to come.

TECHNOLOGY AT OUR SCHOOL

We are excited to present an information session via zoom as part of the next P & C meeting. The topic will be Technology at EHPS. The session will outline what technology access your child has and how we embed technology into teaching and learning for each grade. We will also be sharing our new Digital Technologies policy and procedures and asking for parent feedback on this.

The meeting will be held online on Tuesday 11 August at 7p.m.

Please ensure you sign up for the zoom link via P & C. More details next week.

2020 MULTICULTURAL PERSPECTIVES PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

Typically each year, students in Years 3 to 6 are given the opportunity to enter the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition, exploring ideas of multiculturalism in Australia. Due to the pandemic the competition was delayed and will follow a different format to previous years. As such, due to short notice and other commitments Epping Heights will not participate this year. As always, we will continue to study and celebrate multiculturalism in class and as a school community.

Thank you for your understanding.
