LONDON SKATING CLUB THE WORLD IS COMING TO LONDON EDITION
For the Skaters that are in the StarSkate, CanpowerSkate, Synchronized Skating and Adult Competitive streams of the club, February to April is the prime competition season. Competitions happen throughout the year, but February and November (for the Competitive Figure Skaters that are in the National steams) are the two main months. Some find these stressful times, but stress is only something you apply to yourself. Coach Doug Leigh, one of the top coaches in Canada, says let the other person worry about stress. He goes on to say what value does stress bring? None, so why put yourself through it. Make a plan, work hard, stay focused and have fun and stress will manage itself. So as each of you go to competitions or have a playoff game in hockey/ringette, commit to be the hardest working skater, keep focused on what you have been training on all year and most of all, have fun. If you hold to these three pillars, you will be successful at your skating and in life, regardless of the final score. With the World Championships coming to London next month, watch for the London Skating Club in the news as we look for opportunities to let the community know we are here and we support them. Already we have been at the tree carving unveiling, a community skate at Victoria Park and the Beginner Synchro team performed at the Canada’s London branding launch. Over the next few weeks there will be more opportunities for us. Enjoy this unique time for London as most do not know how big this event is. Try to make it out to the light show, and try to participate in and get as many of your friends to participate in the New Balance Run on March 15th. The run has an opportunity to be repeated in future years if the turn-out is significant.

In The News! Forest City rebranded as 'Canada's London' ahead of World Figure Skating Championships By Hank Daniszewski, The London Free Press
Saturday, February 9, 2013 1:18:32 EST PM
The London Skating Club Beginners Synchronized Team provided entertainment at the Covent Garden Saturday.
HANK DANISZEWSKI/LONDON FREE PRESS/QMI AGENCY
London's rebranding as “Canada's London” was officially launched on a frosty February morning on Saturday.
Speaking at the Covent Garden skating rink across from Budweiser Gardens, Mayor Joe Fontana said the upcoming World Figure Skating Championships gives London a chance to create an international identity linked to the fame of London, England which held a successful Olympics Games last year.
“People instinctively think of London, England, but we are that other London -- Canada's London -- and that works for us,” said Fontana.
Fontana said the championships to be held March 11-17 will provide a global opportunity to promote London.
“The world will take a nice look at Canada's London . . . 160 million eyes will be looking at us and we have a lot to show them.”
A series of special events and displays has been planned to support the championships include the Tree of Light sound and Light show at Budweiser Gardens.
A synchronized team from the London Skating Club provided entertainment at the launch. The Covent Garden rink will be turned into the Skate House Canada Performance at the championships.

Adult skating across Canada is growing in popularity as more clubs are offering recreational, test and competitive opportunities to this segment of the population. The London Skating club provides comprehensive, high quality programs to individuals and groups which will allow the development of skating skills, good sportsmanship, competitive spirit and life skills, in a manner consistent with Skate Canada. Adult Skaters, have different needs from the child skater and the “Elite Skater.”
The London Skating club meets these needs by offering 2 separate Adult Figure Skating sessions. The N.C.C.P. Coaches are genuinely interested in the development of Adult Skaters and can help skaters achieve any of their goals. Whether you view skating as a recreational pastime or a more serious activity, there are opportunities in the wide range of programs offered by the London Skating Club. Some options are, ice shows, (every other year) skating tests and even competitions. The one and one half hour evening session and the two hour morning session include stroking, a chance to free skate and dance.
Skating is an activity that contributes to a healthy lifestyle by developing balance, strength and endurance all while having fun with friends. Let us help you meet your goals, whether it is learning to skate, furthering your skating ability, or wanting a night out to socialize. Supporting each other and celebrating our achievements, we can encourage each other to do great things.
Come join us at the London Adults Session.
