Many have stated that it is impossible to know whether or not we are living in the last

days before the second coming of Jesus Christ. However, below you will find dra-

matic proof that these are the endtimes. The proofs below defy coincidence.

Euphrates River to Be Dried Up In Revelation 16:12, the Bible predicts that the Euphrates River will be dried up to prepare the way for the kings of the east to invade Israel. This will happen at the time of the Battle of Armageddon according to verse 16 of the same chapter. The Battle of Armageddon will be the final battle at which time Jesus will return and fight on the side of the nation of Israel. Immediately thereafter He will establish His kingdom and usher in His one thousand-year reign of peace. On January 13, 1990, the Indianapolis Star carried the head-line “Turkey Will Cut Off Flow of Euphrates for One Month.” The article stated that a huge reservoir had been built by Turkey. While filling up the reservoir, the flow of the Euphrates would be stopped for one month and a concrete plug for a diversion channel built. These things have now been done. With this newly built dam, Turkey has the ability to stop the Euphrates River at will. The conditions for fulfilling this 1,900 year-old prophecy are now in place.

In Revelation 9:15-16, the Bible prophesies that an army of 200 million soldiers will launch a war which would kill “the third part of men.” Never in the history of the world until our present generation has there been a power on earth that could field 200 mil-lion soldiers. However, the late ruler of China, Mao Tse Tung, boasted in his diary that he could field an army of 200 million. The CIA World Factbook reports that in the year 2001, it is estimated that China has 200,886,946 men of mili-tary age, and this number is growing by 10 million per year.

In Revelation 13, the Bible prophesies that a world dictator will soon rule over a world government. He will cause all people in the earth to receive a number with-out which they will be unable to buy or sell. We are seeing this prophecy fulfilled before our eyes in a most astonishing way. Nearly every human being in the world now has been assigned a number. In America it is our Social Security num-ber. In the past few years, we have seen this number extended to newborns. A child without a Social Security number cannot be declared as a dependent on an income tax return. We have seen the emergence of electronic money, shopping with credit cards, and many people urging the abolishment of cash. All of these things could not possibly have been fulfilled until this present time. Only after the invention of the computer could such a worldwide numbering system be administered.

Revelation 13:7 and Daniel 7:23 prophesy the establishment of a world government. The term “New World Order” has become a prevalent phrase in the world’s political culture. Mikhail Gorbachev made the term famous, and Pope John Paul II has referred to it repeatedly. In the September 12, 1990 issue of the Chicago Tribune, our former president George Bush said, “Iraq is the first test for the New World Order.” He emphatically stated that the Iraq War is Saddam Hussein against the world. The United Nations’ troops are continually referred to as the multi-national forces. The decision has been made to establish an interdependent community of nations that will rule the world under United Nations authority. The Bible says that this will lead us into a great world government. The formation of this government is at hand.

Is it coincidental that all of these major prophecies pertaining to the last times are being fulfilled simultaneously?

tells us to study to show ourselves approved unto God so that we can rightly divide the word of truth (II Timothy 2:15). The word of God is the seed that, when planted in the human heart, can produce eternal life. Let’s pause for a word of caution. We don’t need to know everything about everything before we can witness. None of us ever would. Some of the most effective soul winners are new converts. Most of us sim-ply need to share what we already know. The most important thing about soul winning is to do it!

It is true, however, that the more skillful we are in the word of God, the more effective we can be. So we should study to show ourselves approved. But you don’t have to have a degree in theol-ogy to win the lost. Many souls are being won today by people who know very little. They simply share God’s word by video, book or brochure. Hundreds are being won in this way.

Many of us are looking for some new magic method to win the lost to Jesus. Let’s face it. We will never improve on the method given to us by the master soul winner—Jesus Christ. He said, “Go ye therefore and teach all nations…” He said that if we sow bountifully we will reap bounti-fully.

PERSPECTIVE

We who follow Bible prophecy, pay so much attention to what hap-

pens in the Middle East. Why? Because we are so close to the beginning of the final seven years, to Armageddon, and to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Everything that is happening in the Middle East right now is moving us toward the endgame as it is spelled out in the prophecies of the Bible. That is why it is so important to be keenly aware that prophetic fulfillment is moving steadily forward.

What should our response be as we see the converging of the many prophecies of the Bible? Should we be seized by fear? No. If we are born again, there is no reason to fear. As the Apostle Paul said, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).

But urgency? Absolutely! Know-ing the nearness of the Second Coming of Jesus, Christians should have the motivation of a nation on a war footing. But what should we be doing? After all, motivation without direction produces noth-ing but frustration.

We must fulfill the great com-mission that Jesus gave us: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations.” Teach them. It’s our mission. The Christians of the endtime are described in prophecy: “…the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits. And they that understand among the people shall instruct many” (Daniel 11:32-33). That’s talking about you! That’s talking about me! That’s talking about right now!

Bring on the RFID tagsIf RFID tags truly are the mark

of the beast, why should we com-bat it? I mean, if these are the end-times shouldn’t we be rejoicing and praying for our Lord’s return? If it was prophesied in the Bible, it has to come true, so why fight it? I for one will be content to let it happen and keep my eyes toward the heavens waiting for Jesus to come get me. -R.P. REPLY: You are right when you say that the mark of the beast is inevitable. However, it is not inevitable for everybody, every-where. We know this because the Antichrist will still be fighting wars on a national scale during the final three and one-half years before Armageddon (Daniel 11:40-44). If we can be one of the nations that resist the program of the Antichrist, then America could serve as a base for world evange-lism during the last times.

Mental challenge for Irvin & Jamie

I am a regular listener and am fascinated by many of Irvin’s the-ories. I am impressed with his intelligence and sense of logic. I do have a concern, though. It would appear that you believe in the old adage “The end justifies the means”.

I listened the other day to the interview with Jamie Brendan. The information was good, valu-able, timely and important. What I found insulting was the fact that Irvin Baxter thinks his listeners are so mentally challenged that

they can’t figure out that Jamie Brendan and he are one.

Give me a break! If you’re going to pull one over on people, you’ve got to think of ALL the angles. You covered the voice reasonably well. It wasn’t that. It’s the fact that Jamie and Irvin talk in exactly the same manner. They use the same inflections and verbiage.

So, here’s the problem. You’ve pulled one scam on your listen-ers. What are the odds that you haven’t and won’t continue to pull others? How do I know you’re not dishonest in other areas? I’m not just throwing accusations. I’m seriously worried about sending money to an organization that I cannot trust.

I hate this feeling. I don’t like doubting Irvin’s integrity. I haven’t sent much money in the past, and I don’t have much left-over after I tithe, so I have to be as cautious as I can with what little I have to give.

Where’s the wall?In your book, China War and the

Third Temple, it is stated that the

fall of the Berlin Wall is predicted in the Bible but no biblical refer-ence is given. -C.A. Huff

REPLY: Lesson 2 of our Understanding the Endtime Level 1 series explains the prophecy of the fall of the Berlin Wall. This prophecy was included in my first book, A Message for the President, published in 1986. The Berlin Wall came down three years later. To give a complete explanation in the short space we have here would be impossible. In a nutshell, the seven-headed ten-horned beast of Revelation 13:1-3 represents the endtime world government of the Antichrist. The prophecy states that one of the beast’s seven heads would be wounded to death, but that the deadly wound would be healed. In Understanding the Endtime we prove that one of the seven heads was Hitler’s Third Reich. When Hitler was defeat-ed, Germany was cut in two in an effort to stop her war-making tendencies. This was the deadly wound. The healing of the deadly wound happened when the Berlin Wall fell and the two Germanys were reunited.

ObservationI want to make a point clear.

I want to reply to a letter, which labeled Dr. Irvin Baxter, the editor of this magazine, as someone try-ing to make money and leave. I am on their mailing and have received two publications free of charge. In fact, they spend their personal money in shipping it down to me in Nigeria.

Gog & Magog: Ezekiel vs. Revelation

I know that you teach Ezekiel 38-39 is a parallel scripture with Matthew 24 as well as the vials, trumpets and seals pertaining to the Battle of Armageddon. I see another scripture in Revelation 20 concerning Gog and Magog after the 1,000-year reign of Christ. Satan is released to deceive the nations once again, gathering the people from the four corners of the earth to battle.

I don’t understand how so many people can once again follow Satan after living under the rule of Jesus for so long, knowing the devasta-tion that he caused humanity for the first 6,000 years of human history.

I am a long time listener and appreciate the work God is doing through your ministry. -K. Stultz

REPLY: I agree with you. I too cannot understand how so many people will be deceived after the millennium. On the other hand, I don’t understand how so many people are being deceived right now. We have such detailed prophecies proving that Jesus is the Messiah. Yet most of our world has not yet embraced Him. Furthermore, a high percentage of those who claim to embrace Him don’t really follow His teachings.

There is another factor that can-not be ignored. Satan is the god of this world. Scripture teaches that the gifts and callings of God are without repentance. This explains

why Satan will still be able to deceive the world again. The only thing that finally breaks that hold is his permanent destruction.

Lamb’s Book of LifeThe end of Revelation 14 speaks

of two angels. Each has a sickle, one to harvest believers and one to harvest nonbelievers, but after this the Battle of Armageddon takes place. Chronologically this doesn’t seem to make sense (since all believers and nonbeliev-ers being taken means no one would be on earth). Could the two angels be referring to the Lamb’s Book of Life being closed and therefore, no one could become a Christian during the Battle of Armageddon?

REPLY: You refer to the two harvests of Revelation 14. These two harvests are simultaneous and are an integral part of the Battle of Armageddon. The harvest of the earth is the rapture, and the “harvest of the vine of the earth” is the Battle of Armageddon itself. These two simultaneous harvests are described by Jesus in Matthew 13.

It should be noted that not all the inhabitants of the earth will be involved in the Battle of Armageddon. Much of the world will live into the 1,000-year reign of Jesus and His church.

Chernobyl as WormwoodI would like to address

a very unfortunate mis-take that I see on manywebsites. This is the claim that the events in Revelation 8 describe the Chernobyl accident. I admit that it would be uncanny to a high degree if indeed the Russian (or Ukrainian in some versions) word for wormwood were chernobyl. Unfortunately the word chernobyl refers to black grass, also called mugwort. The roots are Chornyi (black) and Byllia (grass). The Russian word for wormwood is

Polynhirkyi (“common bitter”). I thought you should know this as I am sure you are dedicated to academic honesty in your website.

REPLY: The Chernobyl Disaster, a secular book by Soviet-born Viktor Haynes, begins not with an introduction, but with the proph-ecy and a quote from the Concise Oxford Dictionary, 6th Edition: “Chernobyl is a Russian transliter-ation of the Ukrainian word ‘chor-nobyl’, which in English means wormwood, ‘a perennial herb of genus Artemisia with bitter, tonic, and stimulating qualities used in preparation of vermouth, absinth and in medicine.” According to the Dictionary of the Russian Languageby S. Ozhegov, the word “cher-nobylnik” means “a variety of absinthe (wormwood) with red-brown or deep purple stem.” The book Chernobyl: A Documentary Story by Iurii Shcherbak, translated from the Ukrainian language, says, “Ancient Chernobyl gave its bit-ter name (Chernobyl is the com-mon wormwood) to the powerful nuclear power station whose con-struction began in 1971.”

Most striking is the testimo-ny of Hans Blix, former Exec. Dir. of the International Atomic Energy Agency. In a UN General Assembly speech on 10/23/90, Blix quoted Revelation 8:10-11. He said, “In Slavic languages, includ-ing the Ukrainian and Byelorussian languages, there is a word ‘cher-nobyl’, which means wormwood, bitter grass. This has a striking rel-evance to the Chernobyl tragedy. I am no fatalist… but who can fail to be moved by these tragic and elegiac words from Revelation, which must leave their indelible imprint on the heart.”

Please consider these highly credible sources before you totally discount the possible prophetic significance of the Chernobyl nuclear accident of 1986.

U.S. drops immunity measure for its UN peacekeeping troops

The United States announced that it would discontinue a Security Council resolution that would have extended the immuni-ty of some United Nations peace-keepers from prosecution by the world’s war crimes tribunal for a third consecutive year.

Happy with the decision, Secretary-General Kofi Annan stated that it would help main-tain the Council’s unity “at a time when it faces difficult challenges.”

Deputy U.S. Representative to the UN, James Cunningham, said that while Washington still held the same concerns about the International Criminal Court that led to the initial resolution in 2002, it “has decided not to pro-ceed with further consideration and action on the draft at this time to avoid a prolonged and divisive debate.” The resolution expired on June 30th.

Cunningham added that the U.S. would continue to seek bilat-eral agreements with individual Member States to protect U.S. nationals from the ICC.

Norway to ban Islam?In yet another attack on Islam,

central members of Norway’s Kristiansand Progress party claims Hitler’s Mein Kampf and the Koran are one of the same, and want Islam banned in their

country. “We are not the only ones

demanding this ban,” said Halvor Hulaas, the party’s chairper-son. “The freedom we have in Norway may be taken away from us if we do not start to have some demands to these immigrants. The religion as it is practiced is a threat against our social system and way of life.”

What’s at stake? Freedom of religion.

Digital Angel demonstrates technology at House Agriculture Committee Exposition

Under-the-skin ID chips move toward U.S. hospitals

In July, the Federal Drug Administration issued a ruling beginning a final review process to determine whether hospitals can use VeriChip’s RFID systems to identify patients and/or permit hospital staff to access medical records.

VeriChip’s RFID tags are implanted below the right tricep. When close to a VeriChip scan-ner, the ID number is radioed to the scanner. If it matches an ID number in a database, a person with the chip could gain access to a secured room or carry out a financial transaction.

The approval process does not center on health risks or implica-tions as the company’s technol-ogy has been used in animals for years. Instead, the FDA may examine privacy issues such as the

VeriChip is currently working on an implant that will contain a Global Positioning System, which would enable an individual with a scanner to pinpoint someone’s position on the globe. The device is about the size of a pacemaker.

UN’s anti-Semitism forumThe United Nations held its first-

ever seminar dedicated to anti-Semitism, which Jewish leaders say is escalating around the world but is ignored by UN institutions. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan opened the conference as a sign of its importance, and said that Jews must feel that “the United Nations is their home.” Author Elie Wiesel, a Nobel laureate and Holocaust survivor, was the key-note speaker. According to Elon Steinberg, executive vice president of the World Jewish Congress, “We are seeing the most severe level of anti-Semitism around the globe since the Holocaust.”

Arafat: Israel is Jewish; won’t cite figure on refugees

In a recent interview in Haaretz, Palestinian Authority chairman Yasser Arafat said he “definitely” understands that Israel must pre-serve its character as a Jewish state. It is the first time Arafat has expressed his recognition of the state’s Jewish character.

Arafat also cited the PLO’s adoption of the Arab Summit res-olution of April 2002. Based on a Saudi initiative, the resolution called for a just and agreed solution to the Palestinian refugee problem based on UN General Assembly Resolution 194. However, he

refused to say how many refugees he would insist Israel absorb as a condition for a peace agreement.

Amos Malka, the former head of Military Intelligence, stated that Arafat would be willing to compro-mise on the return of only 20,000 to 30,000 refugees to Israel.

Arafat said that under any agree-ment, Israel would maintain sover-eignty over the Western Wall and the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City. In addition, Israelis would be granted freedom of access to holy sites under Palestinian control. The Palestinians would require sovereignty over the rest of East Jerusalem, which would include the Temple Mount.

Yesha Rabbis Council is ‘playing with fire’

Reacting to a statement by right-wing rabbis that said the removal of settlements was against Jewish law, Prof. Assa Kasher who wrote the Israeli Defense Force code of ethics said the Council of Yesha (West Bank) Rabbis have not learned anything from the assas-sination of Yitzhak Rabin and are playing with fire by encouraging soldiers to refuse orders to dis-mantle settlements.

The Yesha council and its rab-bis, in an attempt to distance themselves from the right-wing rabbis, said that there was no room to refuse military orders. The rabbis had ruled that accord-ing to the Torah, no person – a civilian, policeman or soldier – is allowed to take part or assist in any way the “uprooting” of Jewish settlements.

Council Chairman, Rabbi Daniel Shilo said the statement was not a call to disobey orders or break the law and that the time had not come for such a drastic call. “If the moment comes, and the evac-uation of settlements is imminent, then the rabbis would be ready to talk about refusal of orders,” Shilo said. He added that his was a “statement of protest” and that

“we should be focusing on how to achieve security.”

Bush refuses to declare “Gay Pride Month”

This year, President Bush refused to declare June “Gay Pride Month.” However, despite the lack of official support, several groups of federal workers planned activities for the month.

Leonard Hirsch, president of Federal GLOBE — the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Federal Employees organization — told the Washington Blade, a gay weekly, that events would be scheduled at the departments of Transportation, State, Interior and the USDA, while other agencies refused to sanction events without White House approval.

During Clinton’s administration, the annual day was supported with taxpayer dollars and the use of government facilities.

Texas Republicans urged to drop ‘Christian nation’

A leading Jewish group has asked the Republican Party in the state of Texas to stop calling the United States a “Christian nation” in its platform. The Anti-Defamation League, which fights anti-Semitism and religious discrimination, said it was dismayed about the plat-form plank and other language in the document that describes as “a myth” the separation of church and state.

Tina Benkiser, the chairwoman of the Texas Republican Party said, “Our platform is an acknowl-edgment that most of our nation’s founding fathers had a deep faith in God.” The plank in the par-ty’s 2004 platform reads, “The Republican Party of Texas affirms that the United States of America is a Christian nation, and the pub-lic acknowledgment of God is undeniable in our history.”

All of this his-tory came flooding back to my mind as I stood looking at the Dunkirque Memorial. God does still rule in the affairs of men!

Our visit to Normandy’s Omaha Beach where our American troops land-ed on D-day completed the histori-cal picture of Hitler’s short-lived attempt to re-establish the Holy R o m a n Empire. It is impossible not to be filled with awe when viewing the twenty thou-sand white crosses commemorating the Americans who gave their all at Normandy to save the world from

Hitler’s tyranny.

natural choice. Brussels is located approximately 150 miles from Paris, London, Amsterdam and Bonn, Germany. Today, Brussels houses the extensive government structures of the European Union and its 455 million people. No trip centered around the Holy Roman Empire could leave out the city of Brussels.

We arrived at Brussels just in time to catch the last tour of the day through the European Parliament building. The half hour tour sent the unmistakable message that the unification of Europe is an historic event and that the European Parliament is playing a vital role in that

unification. European unification is more extensive today than in any previous attempt at the Holy Roman Empire. What makes the present revival of the European dream even more remarkable is that it has all been accomplished without firing a single shot.

After leaving Brussels, we trav-eled to Aachan, Germany. It was at Aachan that the entire pic-ture came together. Aachan was the home of the first emperor of the Holy Roman Empire—Charlemagne. The church that Charlemagne built around 800 AD still stands, housing his tomb. It was here that the Holy Roman Empire was born.

A prize is given each year to the person who contributes the most to European unity. Because

Charlemagne was the founder of the Holy Roman Empire, the prize is called the Charlemagne Prize. Recipients of the Charlemagne Prize normally travel to Aachan to receive their rewards. Conventional wisdom says that it is the sacred duty of every Muslim to drive the Jews of Israel into the Mediterranean. Dr. Khaleel Mohammed, however, reveals that this is not at all what Islam teaches. The idea that the land of Israel does not belong to the Jews, he says, is a modern one.

Dr. Mohammed is Asst. Professor of Religious Studies at San Diego State University, specializing in Islam, Islamic Law and Comparative Religion, and his mission is “to help reclaim the beauty that once was practiced in Islam, a mes-sage not currently in fashion amongst more traditional or fundamentalist Muslims.”

As a scholar of Religion I am forced to read scripture through diff-

erent lenses than does a scholar of Divinity or a believer. I examine scripture with a critical eye, often extrapolating data that seem at odds with the prevailing opinion of the faith-based scholars. I also read the Bible (both the Hebrew and Christian Bibles) and the Qur’an with the realization that a rabbi, a priest or an imam will often use the main scripture of his/her religion as if it possesses the only data on the subject being discussed—totally oblivious to the fact that the scriptures of other

religions, or even apocryphal texts within his/her own religion may contain additional or even contradictory material. And it is within this framework that certain truisms come to light. When, for example, a text makes a declaration, and is the only text making that declaration, then one may legitimately say to the believer in that faith (let us call it faith A), “To you be your belief, and to

me mine; my text says nothing of the issue, and therefore I choose not to accept your view.” When, however, the same idea is reiterated in the scripture of another religion (let us call this faith B), certainly then, the faithful believers in both faiths must agree on the issue, submitting to the scripture.

admit it or not, religion plays the dominant role in terms of rec-ognition of Israel’s right to exist. Jews look to the Hebrew Bible and quote verses that manifestly buttress their position. Christians read that Bible, along with the New Testament, and come to the same conclusion. The average Muslim however, reads the Qur’an and claims to come to a differ-ent conclusion. This difference of opinion is sig-nificant because the countries that surround and fight against Israel are over-w h e l m i n g l y Muslim, and purvey ideas under the nim-bus of religious authority. And the imams and preachers contin-ue to insist that Jewish rights to the land of Israel ceased with the Muslim occupa-tion of the Holy Land in 638, and that Islam now dictates that the Jews who currently live there are usurpers to the property of oth-ers.

The question that arises then is: from whence comes the pre-dominant Muslim opinion? There is certainly no verse in the Qur’an that says the Jews or Children of Israel have relegated the right to that land. Certainly there is the issue of how the modern state of Israel was founded, and that there have been sanguinary and often unjust occurrences that would make God-loving people weep. But this discourse is not centered on the peripheral issue of how Israel was regained; rather it deals with the crux of the matter: Does the Qur’an state that the land of

Israel belongs to the Jews?

Qur’an: Does Israel belong to the Jews?

In order to answer this ques-tion, one has to understand that in reading the Qur’an, one has to

approach it in a different manner to the Bible. The Qur’an, after all, is primarily a document that is an oral text, and as such, its material is delivered differently than that of a written text. One has to read the entire document, understand that its verses are not chronologically, nor even topically or thematically arranged. A matter may be dis-cussed in one chapter, and then be followed up several chapters later. In short, one has to read the entire document to understand its worldview, and only then can one attempt an informed extrapola-tion.

There is also another matter that must be considered when deal-ing with the Qur’an. Unlike the Hebrew and Christian Testaments, the Qur’an does not focus strong-ly on prophecy. The reason is

quite simple when one considers the time setting of the three faiths, and in the light of eschatological terminology. Judaism, the oldest of the Abrahamic religions, is said to speak of consistent eschatology. A layman’s explanation can be that

as far as Judaism is concerned, in terms of the time at which it came, there is much yet to occur before the Endtimes, and so there are many prophecies to be fulfilled.

The Christ-ian position is said to be that of realized or inau-gurated eschatol-ogy. Jesus comes as the Messiah to fulfill the proph-ecies of the Hebrew Bible. This is only pos-sible towards the End of Time, as evidenced by his s t a t e -ment,

their beliefs. After all, the Qur’an speaks of the prophets of both religions, and of their scripture as being divine. The Qur’an, since it recognizes Jesus as Messiah, can-

not help but see that the end of time is either here or has started, and therefore it does not have much to prophesize about. But on occasion, it does prophesize. Remarkably, one such prophecy is in regards to Israel. And therein lies a possible solution to the problem—at least in terms of hav-ing the Muslim understand certain realities.

In Chapter 5:21 of the Qur’an, Moses says to the Children of Israel: “O my tribe! Enter the Holy Land which God has written for you…” Now, as I have writ-ten elsewhere (see “The Koran and the Jews”, frontpagemag.com, June 3, 2004), this matter is one that means more than what is apparent to the eye: the usage of the term “written” is extremely significant. If God writes some-thing, since God is not like a fickle, fallible human, then God’s writing (i.e. God’s decree), must

be seen to be permanent, and none may change it.

It may be argued that if this were so, then the Jews would not have been twice exiled from the Holy

Land. The argument is a shallow one: exile from the Promised Land does not change ownership. It may be contended that exile does in fact indicate that God wants to change owner-ship, and that such exile then negated Jewish sovereignty to the Holy Land. The fact is that the Jews certainly have not seen it this way, and neither did the medieval Muslim exegetes. They argued that exile as punishment, or delay in bringing about physical possession does not negate own-ership. As Tabari, Ibn Kathir and other exe-getes argued, God’s keeping the exodus survivors from the Land for forty years was in return for

their wrongdoing when ordered to fight for their land: and as such, their taking possession was merely delayed, not annulled.

The question of Jewish exile

Nonethe l e s s , for a Muslim, the fact remains that the Jews were exiled twice, and that after the sec-ond exile, the land was occupied by others who hap-pen to be Muslim and Christian, with the majority being Muslim. The fact remains too that the average Muslim does not read the Qur’an and under-stand that docu-ment in terms of its text: rather s/he reads it through the perceptions of medieval exegetes whose writings

have in some cases truly explicat-ed, and in others, warped the clear meaning of the scripture. The far-ther away they were removed from the time of Muhammad, the more

refracted their exegeses became, to the point where the idea of exegesis evolved into not faithful-

And in the light of such physical pos-session, and with the pas-sage of time, Muslim per-ceptions of their scrip-ture changed. The aver-age Muslim looks at the text I quoted earlier and, despite its clarity, finds fault with the inter-pretation that I give: that it makes clear the land belongs to the Jews. So how then do I respond? I refer to one of the oldest exegetical works in Islam, one predating that

of al-Tabari (d. 923), the most famous of exegetes. I use rather the work of Muqatil b. Sulayman (d. 767), whose exegesis is one of the oldest extant (I am aware of the issue of reliability of prov-

enance, and feel that the docu-ment is to be seen as genuine). He explains Q5:21 as referring to Jericho and Palestine, and that God has ordered the Jews to enter the land.

He continues: This is because God said to Abraham, when he was in the Holy Land, this land where you are now today, is the inheritance for your son after you. And when God sent forth Moses

believing Muslim, the closer is the verse of prophecy in Q17:104 which reads:

And after him, we said to the Children of Israel: Dwell now in the land—and remember that when the promise of the Last Day shall come to pass, we shall bring you forth together.”

Once again, Muqatil b. Sulayman interprets this text in light of the beliefs that are presupposed by the Qur’an, based on Biblical stories. He explains that this occurred after the death of Pharaoh, and that it means the obvious: that towards the Endtimes, God will bring the people of Moses to that land.

The issue for a believing Muslim then is simple: does s/he stand in the way of God’s promise? The answer is clear, and only those who are arrogant and bedeviled may claim to not know what to do. The answer does not in any way negate the rights of Palestinians to a human existence in that land: the Torah orders the rightful owners of that land to treat ALL with humaneness and

dignity. There is no issue then of Bible vs. Qur’an on the issue

of Israel; both documents are in agreement.

Why have I written this piece? Or rather, what agenda do I have?

I am not Jewish, so it may not be assumed that I am dispens-ing pro-Israel propaganda. I am not Christian, so it may not be assumed that I am thinking of fulfilling Christian prophetic ideas regarding the parousia. And I certainly do not care whether the Jews or Christians regard my scripture as a “genu-ine one.” Rather I am Muslim, and I do what I do for the plea-sure of my Lord, and to use the knowledge that I have painstak-ingly pursued, for the benefit of my fellow Muslims.

As one who believes in his holy text, I find that it clearly states that Israel must be. To deny this would be to deny God’s decree. If all my fellow Muslims were to stand against me (God forbid!), my answer would be to quote, in addi-tion to the verses already cited, that of Q 6:162: Say ‘Truly my prayer and my rituals, my life

and my death are all for God, the Cherisher of the worlds.”

Israel w o u l d s o o n need its

own, independent, capabilities to complete its nuclear program. The joint venture with France gave Israel several ingredients for nuclear weapons construction: a production reactor, a factory to extract plutonium from the spent fuel, and the design. In 1962, the Dimona reactor went critical; the French resumed work on the underground plutonium reprocessing plant, and completed it in 1964 or 1965.

There is little doubt that some time in the late sixties, Israel became the sixth nation to manufacture nuclear weapons. Other things they needed were extra uranium and extra heavy water to run the reactor at a higher rate. Norway, France and the United States provided the heavy water and “Operation Plumbat” provided the uranium.

After the 1967 War, France stopped supplies of uranium to Israel. Israel had small amounts of uranium, but not in the large quantities supplied by the French. Using a West German front company and a high seas transfer from one ship to another in the Mediterranean, they obtained 200 tons of uranium oxide, known as yellow cake. The West German

government may have been involved directly but remained undercover to avoid antagonizing the Soviets or Arabs.

Norway sold 20 tons of heavy water to Israel in 1959 for use in an experimental power reactor. Israel simply promised that the heavy water was for peaceful purposes.

Author Seymour Hersh, writing in the Samson Option says Prime Minister Levi Eshkol delayed starting weapons production even after Dimona was fi nished. In the mid-60’s, considerable collaboration between Israel and South Africa developed and continued through the 1970s and

1980s. South Africa became Israel’s primary supplier of uranium for Dimona.

Egypt attempted unsuccessfully to obtain nuclear weapons from the Soviet Union both before and after the Six-Day War. President Nasser received from the Soviet Union a questionable nuclear guarantee instead and declared that Egypt would develop its own nuclear program. His rhetoric of 1965 and 1966 about preventive war and Israeli nuclear weapons coupled with overfl ights of the Dimona

reactor contributed to the tensions that led to war. One source lists such Egyptian overfl ights, along with United Nations peacekeeper withdrawal and Egyptian troop movements into the Sinai, as one of the three “tripwires” which would drive Israel to war. There was an Egyptian military plan to attack Dimona at the start of any war but Nasser vetoed it. He believed Israel would have the bomb in 1968. Israel assembled two nuclear bombs and ten days later went to war. Nasser’s plan, if he had one, may have been to gain and consolidate territorial gains before Israel had a nuclear option.

He was two weeks too late. The Israelis aggressively

Israel pressured him hard for aircraft (A-4E Skyhawks initially and F-4E Phantoms later) and obtained agreement in 1966 under the condition that the aircraft would not be used to deliver nuclear weapons. Although denied at the time, America delivered the F-4Es, on September 5, 1969, with nuclear capable hardware intact.

Moshe Dayan gave the go-ahead for starting weapon production in early 1968, putting the plutonium separation plant into full operation. Israel began producing three to fi ve bombs a year. The book Critical Mass asserts that Israel had two bombs in 1967, and that Prime Minister Eshkol ordered them armed in Israel’s fi rst nuclear alert during the Six-Day War.

On the afternoon of 6 October 1973, Egypt and Syria attacked Israel in a coordinated surprise assault, beginning the Yom Kippur War. Caught with only regular forces on duty, augmented by reservists with a low readiness level, Israeli front lines crumbled. By early afternoon on October 7th, no effective forces were in the southern Golan Heights and Syrian forces had reached the edge of the plateau, overlooking the Jordan River. This crisis brought Israel to its second nuclear alert.

Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, obviously not at his best at a press briefi ng, was, according to Time magazine, rattled enough to later tell the prime minister that “this is the end of the third temple,” referring to an impending collapse of the state of Israel. “Temple” was also the code word for nuclear weapons. Prime Minister Golda Meir and her “kitchen cabinet” made the decision on the night of October 8th. The Israelis assembled 13 twenty-kiloton atomic bombs. The number and in fact the entire story was later leaked by the Israelis as a great psychological warfare tool.

U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger was notifi ed of the alert several hours later on the morning of October 9th. The U.S. decided to open an aerial resupply pipeline to Israel, and Israeli aircraft began picking up supplies that day. The military situation stabilized on October 8th and 9th as Israeli reserves poured into the battle

and averted disaster. Well before signifi cant American resupply had reached Israeli forces, the Israelis counterattacked and turned the tide on both fronts.

On October 11th, a counter-attack on the Golan broke the back of Syria’s offensive, and on October 15th and 16th, Israel launched a surprise crossing of the Suez Canal into Africa. Soon the Israelis encircled the Egyptian

Third Army and it was faced with annihilation on the east bank of the Suez Canal, with no protective forces remaining between the Israeli Army and Cairo. The fi rst U.S. fl ights arrived on 14 October. American commanders in Germany depleted their stocks of missiles, at that time only shared with the British and West Germans, and sent them forward to Israel.

Thus started the subtle, opaque use of the Israeli bomb to ensure

that the United States kept its pledge to maintain Israel’s conventional weapons edge over its foes. There is signifi cant anecdotal evidence that Henry Kissinger told President of Egypt, Anwar Sadat, that the reason for the U.S. airlift was that the Israelis were close to “going nuclear.”

Soviet premier Leonid Brezhnev threatened, on October 24th, to airlift Soviet airborne troops to

reinforce the Egyptians cut off on the eastern side of the Suez Canal and put seven Soviet airborne divisions on alert. Evidence indicates that the Soviets sent nuclear missile submarines also. President Nixon’s response was to bring the U.S. to worldwide nuclear alert the next day, whereupon Israel went to nuclear alert a third time. This sudden crisis quickly faded as Prime Minister Meir agreed to a cease-fi re, relieving the pressure on the Egyptian Third Army.

Shimon Peres had argued for a pre-war nuclear demonstration to deter the Arabs. Arab strategies and war aims in 1967 may have been restricted because of a fear of the Israeli “bomb in the basement,” the undeclared nuclear option. Egypt and Syria seemed not to violate Israel proper and avoided triggering one of the unstated Israeli reasons to employ nuclear weapons. Peres credits Dimona with bringing Anwar Sadat to

Jerusalem to make peace. At the end of the Yom Kippur

War (a nation-shaking experience), Israel had her nuclear arsenal fully functional and tested by a deployment. The arsenal, still opaque and unspoken, was no longer a secret, especially to the two superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union.

If a leopard changes its spots, is it still a leopard? As you may have guessed, this age

old question has nothing to do with feline biology, rather, it has everything to do with motives and reality.

Here’s another question: if the largest pro-world government lobby group in the United States changes itself into a “grassroots” member organization of con-cerned “citizens for global solu-tions,” what is it?

I assure you this is more than just gobbledygook.

This past spring, in a controver-sial move, the largest pro-world government organization in the U.S. changed its spots. The World Federalist Association, which for decades has been a frontline world government player, changed its name to “Citizens for Global Solutions.”

Granted, this new name is a real yawner. But as sleepy as this appears, such a changeover by America’s most prominent world-government advocacy group reflects a directional switch that

cannot be ignored. In order to understand whether

or not the leopard has changed its spots, it’s important to know who and what the World Federalist Association is, its history, and its infl uence. If all this seems a little mundane, fl ash back with me to a WFA meeting in an unspecifi ed Texas city sometime in the later part of the 1990s. Am I being vague? Yes, but sometimes you have to be.

Like most global governance meetings, the real “meat and pota-toes” of this particular WFA event wasn’t what was said behind the podium. Rather, it’s at the coffee breaks, banquet tables, and private encounters in the hall where the issues are hashed out, the net-working begins, and the juiciest information is spilled.

During one particular break, a group of WFA activists and staff set up a television and VCR. Somebody popped in a video, and we watched as two recognized “right wing” authors spoke on the dangers of world government. In one presentation, the speaker

talked about the move towards world government as a great “con-spiracy” and flashed on the screen a variety of logos and letterheads from different global governance programs.

The WFA reaction was interest-ing. Some had their arms folded and were seriously scrutinizing the video, one person in the group half-jokingly yelled at the screen, “we are the conspiracy.” When a specific letterhead appeared, a staff member piped up, “I designed that logo.” One individual sit-ting beside me commented that the information in the video was accurate, but criticized one of the speakers for using too much rhet-oric.

After the tape ended, the WFA staffer who inserted the video talked about the seriousness of the situation – specifically that these types of videos represented an educational backlash against the WFA and its goal of world fed-eration. In the end, it was noted that an educational counter-offen-sive was needed in order to mar-ginalize global governance crit-

ics. Furthermore, some felt that the WFA needed a new approach that would shift public focus away from the uncomfortable language of “world government.” A few postulated that this could be achieved by couching WFA’s pub-lic message in terms that would be considered more benign; for example, instead of talking about world government – which is what “world federalism” implies – reshape the language to reflect a more “grass roots” platform: i.e., “global democracy,” “internation-al justice,” and the “rule of law.”

I went away from this experi-ence with my mind reeling – it was a good reminder about the serious-ness of the game that I was a part of. Moreover, it afforded me an opportunity to witness the long-standing public relations dilemma of the WFA agenda: “world gov-ernment” sounds way too radical, but like it or not, it is the shadow in which the WFA walks.

High idealsWith the bloody climax of World

War II, a number of groups in the U.S. and Europe arose with the call to form a united world gov-ernment that would bring an end to the “war-system” of nation-states. In early 1947, in Asheville, North Carolina, several of these major groups joined forces to cre-ate the United World Federalists. At the same time they drafted and released the “Asheville Statement of Policy/Purposes,” which reads in part,

Highlighting these early years, the World Federalist Association 1997 Activist Guidebook states, “By November of 1947 large newspapers had given editorial sup-port to the move-ment and there were 150 student chapters. By 1950 there were more than 40,000 members.” In terms of pub-lic member-ship the late 1940s were the apex years of the orga-nization.

This shouldn’t be unexpected. The years immediately following World War II were heady times for world government advocates. A new United Nations had been born, and bold statements of international “peace and order” were being proclaimed. Speaking at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, Winston Churchill rallied for a United Nations international armed force (March 5, 1946). And at Albert Hall in London, England, Churchill proclaimed,

“The creation of an authorita-tive, all-powerful world order is the ultimate aim towards which we must strive. Unless some effective World Super-Government can be set up and brought quickly into action, the prospects for peace and human progress are dark

and doubtful.” (Churchill Speaks, 1897-1963: Collected Speeches in Peace and War, speech given on May 14, 1947).

Others too were sounding-out for an international system

of law and gover-nance, including Albert Einstein, Harry Truman, Julian Huxley, Bertrand Russell, and Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. So too did U.S. Congressional and Senate reso-lutions appear endorsing the con-cept of expanding the United Nations into a system of world government. And then the Cold War swept aside the utopian visions of world federalism. Not only that, the United World Federalists – and more importantly the United Nations – was considered by many to be a Communist front. Membership in World Federalist organizations plummeted.

Finding the middle roadObviously, a direct jump into

world government was out of the question. According to an histori-cal appendix in WFA’s document, Rethinking Basic Assumptions About The United Nations, “They soon realized that world federation would not come overnight. From

early on world federalists focused their educational and program efforts on such intermediate steps as arms control, the development of world law, and strengthening the United Nations.” Essentially, a middle road was chosen.

Even though the Cold War-era dampened World Federalist numbers, the organization and its membership were instrumental in a number of ways.

1960s: Federalists initiated the movement to create the United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency (now part of the State Department). They also supported the signing of the Limited Test Ban Treaty.

1970s: Worked to rally support for the United Nations Law of the Sea Treaty.

1980s: Worked to establish “phased general and complete disarmament under international inspec-tion,” re-igniting the momen-tum built during the Arms Control platform of the 1960s.

Throughout this time, the United World Federalists shifted and re-grouped as an organization, splin-tering during the 1970s, and then re-emerging as the tax-exempt World Federalist Association. And while the idea of World Federalism waxed and waned throughout the Cold War-era, it did attract some interesting individuals to its ranks, including author Benjamin Spock, U.S. Supreme Court Judge William O. Douglas, and Ronald Reagan – who was to become the 40th President of the United States.

In fact, when one goes through the membership lists and biogra-phies of leading World Federalists, you find a startling array of politi-cal hitters; members of the United World Federalists and the subse-quent World Federalist Association include Congressmen, Senators, state and federal judges, leading UN officials, World Bank person-

nel, major authors and publishers, union leaders, U.S. ambassadors (to foreign countries, NATO, and the United Nations), federal and state government office holders, mayoral candidates, presidential candidates, university professors, and a host of individuals with con-nections to the Council on Foreign

Relations and other significant for-eign affairs organizations. Even the intelligence community had ties, especially as the first president of the UWF was Cord Meyer Jr., who was eventually recruited by Allen Dulles and became head of the CIA’s International Organizations Division and Covert Action Staff.

But it was in the 1990’s that the World Federalist Association achieved major results in its quest for global governance.

It’s all about strategyOn April 30, 1989, the World

Federalist Association adopted a strategy statement for the 1990s which read in part; “The World Federalist Association is working to transform the United Nations into a world federation…Our objective is a United Nations World Federation…”

Pushing this agenda forward, the WFA supported the creation of a special U.S. Commission on Improving the Effectiveness of the United Nations. Walter Hoffman, a member of the World Federalist Association, was appointed by Congressional House Speaker Tom Foley to sit on the Commission. And President George H.W. Bush appointed Dr. Harris O.

helped pave the way for larger WFA policy exposure was a 1992 conference at the Wingspread Center in Wisconsin. Bringing together participants from the United Nations, the U.S. govern-

UN should operate. Ideas that percolated included the creation of an International Criminal Court and the domestic enforcement of international laws.

Compared to the Cold War slump, the 90’s were looking bright.

Over the course of the decade, the WFA became progressively engaged in major United Nations events – including the 1992 Rio Earth Summit and the UN World Conference on Women – and by 1996, the WFA was granted its own consultative status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Moreover, in 1994, the WFA spearheaded what was to become one of its most suc-cessful campaigns, the creation of a lobbyist coalition to press for an International Criminal Court. When the ICC was finally announced, Federalists privately cheered it as “their baby.”

Looks like a leopard…In the mid-1990s, public mem-

bership in the WFA increased under a renewed membership drive, eventually hovering around the 10,000 mark. However, these numbers were rarely reflected in the WFA’s annual meetings and special events. Rather, the WFA’s core leadership under John Anderson (1980 U.S. presidential candidate) was the most active and visible component of the organi-zation. Membership may have its privileges, but leadership has the spotlight.

Probably no other event in recent World Federalist history displayed this fact more than the United Nations Millennium Forum in May of 2000. Key World Federalists sat on the Forum’s steering com-mittee and were heavily involved in organizing and managing the conference. They manned the reg-istration table. They sat on panels and were vocal in group discus-sions. They dominated the Forum’s thematic working group on Strengthening and Democratizing the United Nations – argu-ably the most important working group of the six offered. They even had VIP seats in the first three rows during Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s opening speech. And at the end of the week, World Federalists were publicly thanked for their efforts in making the Forum a success. In fact, World Federalists were so promi-nent that many delegates privately complained that the Forum was nothing more than a Federalist event.

But they didn’t talk about “world government”; creating an international tax – yes; establish-ing a UN parliamentary system – yes; giving the United Nations its own military powers – yes; and strengthening international law into a binding set of global

agreements – affirmative on that as well. Nothing about “world government.”

Hence, it didn’t surprise me when, about three years ago, I saw a staff member of the World Federalist Association on a late night public television talk show. The topic was the International Criminal Court.

Towards the end of the program, the host directly asked whether or not the WFA advocated “world government.” The WFA staffer didn’t say yes or no. Instead, an obviously pre-planned explana-tion about “justice” and the “rule of law” left ill-informed viewers wondering, “why did the host ask about world government?”

All of this brings us around to our main question about a leopard and his spots. Today, the WFA leopard seems to have lost its spots by regrouping under a name which could hardly be con-strued in a negative light. You

could even say that “Citizens for Global Solutions” invokes a posi-tive impression, or at the very least dull. Not surprisingly, a search for the term “world government” on the CGS website brings up only one hit, and that single reference to “world government” is couched

in a negative framework!So is the bid for world govern-

ment no longer relevant to this new group? Hardly. Despite the name change, the core goals and val-ues of global governance remain. Moreover, when CGS formed, it amalgamated a second organiza-tion into its fold – the Campaign for UN Reform, a group whose upper echelon was largely com-prised of active World Federalist players. In a way this merger was a homecoming; the CUNR was a World Federalist offshoot body from the mid-1970s, and both the WFA and the CUNR espoused “global solutions” through an international management system.

This striving for global gover-nance, combined in the re-pack-aged Citizens for Global Solutions, is evident in the official CGS vision statement,

“Citizens for Global Solutions envisions a future in which nations work together to abolish war, pro-

tect our rights and freedoms, and solve the problems fac-ing humanity that no nation can solve alone. This vision requires effective democratic global institutions that will apply the rule of law while respecting the diversity and autonomy of national and local communities.”

It’s no coincidence that the term “democratic global insti-tutions” resembles the earlier United World Federalist plat-form of a “world government of limited powers.” In fact, as I write this, the new and improved Citizens for Global Solutions is establishing an internal sub-group – the World Federalist Institute.

The bottom line is this: No matter if you call it the United World Federalists, the World Federalist Association, or the Citizens for Global Solutions, the ultimate achievement is the cre-ation of a global system of gov-ernment. The animal, spots or no spots, is the same.

With the dissolution of the Soviet Union, many

people said that Russia was no longer a signifi cant factor in world affairs. However, Bible prophecy foretells a very important role for Russia in the endtime.

In Ezekiel 38, it is proph-esied that “the chief prince of Meshech,” also referred to as Gog and Magog, will lead the invasion of Israel at the Battle of Armageddon. Webster’s Third International Dictionary defines Meshech as the word for Moscovi or Moscow. Of course, Moscow is the capital of Russia.

We know that the inva-sion of Israel described in Ezekiel 38-39 is the Battle of Armageddon since the “great supper of our God” is described as occurring in both the Gog-Magog War (Ezekiel 39:17-20) and at Armageddon (Revelation 19:17-20).

Further evidence of Russia’s prominent role in the endtime is given in Revelation 13:1-2, “And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphe-my. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his

feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

This strange beast is a symbol of the endtime world govern-ment of the Antichrist. Notice that the mouth of the beast is

the lion—the symbol of England. This is God’s way of letting

us know that the lan-guage of the endtime

world govern-ment will

be English. The United Nations has now decided that the official language of the world commu-nity is English.

The feet of the world gov-ernment beast were the feet of a bear. The official symbol of Russia is the bear. God wanted us to know that Russia would

be an integral part of the one-world system of the Antichrist. So Russia is destined to be a major player in world affairs all the way to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

president of Russia, the fortunes of the nation seem to have turned around. Russia’s oil production has increased dramatically, almost equaling so far this year that of the world’s top oil producer, Saudi Arabia.

Russia is averaging 8.9 million barrels per day.

At $40 per barrel, this is infusing wealth very rapidly into Russia’s economy. This, in turn, is allow-ing Putin to pour money into revi-talizing Russia’s military.

Russia recently boasted that she has developed ballistic missile technology that

can outwit any defensive sys-tem on earth. This is a clear challenge to the United States’ planned $50 billion anti-missile shield.

With a scan, you give your electronic acknowledgment to authorize the order and for the grocery store to deliver.

Our society is now totally depen-dent upon technology, and Big Brother controls it all. Within a decade of the advent

of calculators and cash registers, math scores plummeted in our schools, because these items did the math for us. One can only imagine how this new technology will stupefy a global society.

The belief in humanism domi-nates the world’s thinking— when humanity decides to tackle a prob-lem, there are no limits. Man can do anything.

How close are we to 666?New technology being tested

today involves electronic chips in firearms that identify the owner by a ring he wears on his finger, accessing a chip that activates the firing device. Anyone attempting to use the firearm without the ring cannot activate the device, thus rendering it unusable. The

same technology allows some of today’s automobiles to be entered and started without a key by the owner alone. This technology is advertised by car manufacturers every day.

Technology is leading us down a bright road, promising us a future of comfort and security. Presently, an RFID tag embedded under the skin cannot provide positive identification. Identities can still be stolen. Biometrics can identify individuals with amazing accuracy, but it’s not perfect. Technology isn’t quite there...yet. But solu-

tions are being discovered every day.

But after reading an article entitled, “Wireless Transceiver-On-Chip Now Possible” from the EE Times, I am now con-vinced that the final piece of the puzzle is in place for the global tracking of everything.

A research team from the Wireless Integrated Micro-systems Engineering Research Center at the University of Michigan says it has succeeded in integrating the last two components needed to create a one-chip wireless transceiver. Bottom line: This new invention allows for all of those RFIDs to be read anywhere in the world and you will never see the reader, as it will be a little larger than a grain of sand.
