Lauber of 37 Bunn street, badly burned two weeks ago when a gasoline stove exploded in his home, died last night at the Amsterdam City Hosiptal. Mr. Lauber was engaged in re- moving wall paper from the walls when the explosion occurred. He ran to the street where neighb6rs tore the burning clothing off his body and wrapped him in a blanket. He was born in Cornwall, On- tario, Canada, August 2, 1899, a n d spent most of his life there. He was graduated from Collegiate Uni- versity, Cornwall, and fought in the World war with the Cana'dian army. At the time of his death he was assistant resident auditor em- ployod her-e-by-the-New-^ork-Pow— er and Light Corporation. He was a member of Artisan Lodge, F. and A. M., and held the office of junior warden. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church. Besides his wife he' is survived by three sons, Stuart, Robert' and John; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac H. Lauber; three sisters, Mrs. Herbert J. Scruton, Amsterdam, Mrs. A. S. McPee and Miss Belva Lauber, Cornwall; two brothers, Garriet and Bruce Lauber, also of Cornwall. Weaver Wins Verdict A verdict of $4,000, the largest returned during the present term of Supreme Court at Fonda, was brought in this morning by a jury In favor of Clayton Weaver in a negligence action brought against John H. Brecn. Mrs. Elizabeth Cramer, also a claimant against the defendant in another, negligence ac- tlon r tried with the first, was award- ed $500. The jury returned a sealed verdict which was opened in court this morning. These actions re- sulted from a collision between the Weaver and Breen automobiles on the Amsterdam-Fort Johnson high- way January 8 last. Mrs. Cramer was a passenger in the Weaver car at the time of the crash. Both plaintiffs claimed personal Injuries. Named Fireman Frank G. Teslero of 8 Carmlchael street, a former patrolman on the Amsterdam police force and later connected for some years with the police force of the New York Cen- tral Railroad, was 'named a mem- ber of the local fire department by Mayor Arthur Carter. Mr. Teslero was second on the list of 12 who passed the recent civil service ex- amination. Schenectady Man Hurt Cornelius Grennan, 76 Linden street. Schenecatdy, is in the City Hospital with severe scalp wounds and cuts and bruises about the face as the result of a fall from an automobile last night He was rid- ing with Attorney Harry Gordon, Schenectady, and wished to leave the car on East Main street. He stumbled as he stepped from "the car and fell face-first against a car parked nearby. Rotterdam's first annual clean-up week campaign last week was sponsored by Rotterdam Post 1091 of the American Legion in co-oper- ation with the town board and school principals. May 16 "TSpecFal)';—~ Whisking them from police head- quarters where they were awaiting a Police Court hearing, detectives today hurried nine men, held in connection with a raid on a horse room set up in a dosvntown office building Friday, to County oCurt, where eight of them were arraigned on a blanket indictment charging grand larceny, first degree. All en- tered pleas of^not guilty and bail w a s fixed at $75,000 each by Qounty Judge Earl H. Gallup. It was intimated he may turn state's evidence. Also named in the indic tment was W a l t e r Clyde Smith, alleged leader of a confidence gang, who escaped a police t r a p when he be­came suspicious of a guarded tele­phone conversa t ion of one of the gang who was su r rounded by police while he was ta lk ing .
