T oday we celebrate the last Sunday of the Church year. We celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. This is no ordinary king that we celebrate. He is king of the universe. He is also a king who died on the cross. But even as he died on the cross for us, we believe that
he is the king of the living. The month of November is a time for the Church to reflect on death and the end times. Though there may be a major event, for most of us the end times will be our own personal death. We wonder what it will be like and how will resurrection fit into the picture. But for Christ the King, he is the king of the living. Whether we are alive here on earth or alive in the Resurrection Christ views us all the same. We are living saints. Though we do not know what the transition will be like at death, we believe that we will live. Jesus Christ leads us forward. During the month of November, we took time to remember our loved ones who died. Today we invite everyone who brought pictures and memorial cards to our tables of remembrance to please pick them up. Next week we will begin the new Church year. The season of Advent begins the Church year as we once again go back to the beginning of our story. This is a story of hope and joy. We joyfully prepare and wait for the Lord to come again. This week we have our annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. This collec-tion was initiated by the American Bishops after the second Vatican Council. It is a collection to help groups within our own country who are trying to make their lives and those around them better. Groups around the coun-try apply for funds from the CCHD collection to make their local communities better. The funds may be used for hunger prevention, violence reduction, job initiation,
etc. This is a way we can help those trying to help them etc. This is a way we can help those trying to help them-selves. Please be as generous as you can be. As we near the end of the fiscal year I would like to thank all of you for your generous support of the parish. You have shown support through your Sunday offerings, To Teach Who Christ Is Campaign and many memorials and donations in honor of loved ones. Toge-ther we have made the parish strong. Thank you and I ask you to consider St. Kieran when you are preparing end of year donations. We always have a need, and we promise to be good stewards of your gifts. Thank You. This Tuesday we invite you to join us for our tri-parish thanksgiving prayer and celebration. This year it will be held at St. Agnes. The service will begin at 7 PM. As always it will include choirs and musicians from St. Kieran, St. Agnes and St. Irenaeus parishes. It is a chance to gather as a community that is bigger than our individual parishes. Since Fr. Tom, Fr. Terry and I celebrate the Thanksgiving Day Masses, we invite Fr. O’Mara to lead this celebration. Don’t let this chance to say thank you to God pass you by. We invite you to join us on December 6th for the Living Nativity hosted by St. Agnes. All the usual charac-ters will be present, Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus, and a host of live animals in need of attention. The St. Agnes children’s choir will lead our singing and the high school students will perform as the story of Jesus’ birth is told. Afterward there will be tamales, and pizza for sale in Isaiah Hall. It has become a beloved tradition for the community, so please invite your neighbors, children and grandchildren to this special night. Finally, mark your calendars for a visit from that Jolly Old Man in Red! Santa will be joining us for break-fast on Sunday December 15th here at St. Kieran. This holiday event takes place in Crawford Hall. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
