TECHNICAL INFORMATION 003E
General information
FLACHGLAS Wernberg offers an off-the-shelf, walk-on glass product called SIGLA®
Walk that complies with DIN 18008 Part 5.
SIGLA® Walk replaces the SIGLA® Trep and SIGLA® walkable product lines.
Applications
SIGLA® Walk is suitable for use in both interior and exterior applications. All glass
edges must be linearly supported on all sides, and the support structure or adjacent
panes protected against impact.
When used in external applications, walk-on glass is subjected to different kinds of
loads. In particular, structural measures should be taken to ensure the glass edges are
fully protected against moisture.
Advantages
The key advantage of SIGLA® Walk is that it requires no additional testing or verifica-
tions in those German states where the DIN 18008 standard has already been incor-
porated into the building regulations. SIGLA® Walk fully eliminates the previous re-
quirement for a time-consuming and costly "case-by-case approval" (ZiE) by the high-
est construction supervisory authority.
Construction
The new SIGLA® Walk product line comprises five glass constructions that are availa-
ble up to a maximum size of 2000 mm x 1400 mm. The maximum permissible im-
posed load is 5.0 kN/m2. SIGLA® Walk is available in the variants Optifloat™ and
Optiwhite™.
Surfaces
SIGLA® Walk can be combined with one of the anti-slip prints of anti-slip class R9 -
R12 offered by Wernberg.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION 003E
The anti-slip surface, which can be applied to either single pane safety glass or an-
nealed glass, consists of a special enamel with a rough surface that is baked into the
surface of the glass.
Note: This enamel corresponds to surface wear classes II to III as
specified in DIN EN 154 (Ceramic Tiles and Panels - Determination of
Resistance to Surface Wear) and is therefore unsuitable for high-
traffic areas. Such areas require a class >= IV resistance to surface
wear in accordance with DIN EN 154.
Warning: Screen-printed surfaces are not suitable for use in external
applications.
Warning: If the glass pane becomes damaged, the glass surface
should be immediately cordoned off or covered with a suitable load-
bearing panel.
Screen print with anti-slip enamel: Full-surface anti-slip etching ink paste (translucent), color no. 4000c Anti-slip class R 12
Full-surface anti-slip “Translucent 3” paste, color no. 4020c Anti-slip class R 10

Note that the intrinsic color of the composite glass element may take on the appear-
ance of a green/yellow tint as the pane thickness increases. This color effect is manu-
facturing-related and may not be used as grounds for complaint.

This national annex contains national “Design guidance and actions for the structural
design of buildings and civil engineering works including some geotechnical aspects
for the densities of construction materials and stored materials, self-weight of construc-
tion works and imposed loads for buildings” that need to be taken into consideration
when applying DIN EN 1991-1-1:2010-12 in Germany.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION 003E
a The imposed loads in factories and workshops are generally assumed to be static. Where continuously fluctuating
loads apply, it may be necessary in some cases to classify the loading as predominantly non-static.
b These values represent minimum values. In cases where higher loads are expected, the relevant higher value should
be applied.
c When determining the transmitted forces in rooms containing ceilings with an unsatisfactory lateral distribution of
loads, the specified value may be reduced by 0.5 kN/m2.
d When determining combined loads, the loading of the use category of the relevant building or structural element is to
be applied.
e Should verification of the minimum local load bearing capacity be required (e.g. for structures with an unsatisfactory
lateral distribution of loads), this verification must be separately carried out using characteristic values for the concen-trated load Qk and the uniformly distributed load qk. The contact area for Qk is a square with 50 mm sides.
f For this use category, a structural analysis is required for each specific application and is not included in our services.,
g Brief description of the design:
These composite safety glass panes requiring linear support on all sides are installed as steps in staircases or as plat-forms in places where there is a regular passage of people. The glass panes are classified as walk-on glass elements.
When used as steps or platforms, these structural glass panes are installed in a horizontal orientation. They rest on a support structure located on the underside of the glass pane. When linearly supported, the glass panes are prevented from contacting the substructure by means of an elastic intermediate support made from EPDM rubber.
Incident loads: Constant loads in acc. with DIN EN 1991-1-1:2010-12 in conjunction with DIN EN 1991-1-1/NA:2010-12 Imposed loads in acc. with DIN EN 1991-1-1:2010-12 in conjunction with DIN EN 1991-1-1/NA:2010-12 qk ≤ 5.0 kN/m
2 Area load
Qk < 3.0 and 4.0 kN Point loads at an unfavorable position on a 50 mm x 50 mm contact area
DIN 18008 Part 5 is valid for walk-on glazings that are used only for the regular, anticipated passage of people where the loads during normal use do not exceed 5 kN/m
