    New for 2017

Imray chart atlasesWe launched our new series of chart atlases for theNetherlands in early 2016. Their useful wire-boundformat has proven popular and the atlases were highlycommended by the British Cartographic Society. Therange will be further extended in 2017, giving yachtshigh quality small format coverage from the Germanborder south and west to Ouessant and the Isles ofScilly.

The atlas format is gradually being extended across all of our 2000 series smallformat chart packs.

Digitally printed chartsWe recently installed a state-of-the-art digital printing system at our productionworks in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. These new capabilities will keep us at theforefront of chart publishing and enable us to add useful new features to ourwell-regarded charts. This latest technology is being used to print wide formatcharts on new, specially developed coated Pretex paper. We will be able to issuecharts more frequently, resulting in even better coverage and less handcorrecting.

New books and pilotsRecent highlights include a new edition of Trevor and Dinah Thompson’sAdriatic Pilot, the RCC Pilotage Foundation’s Atlantic Islands and Norway, andseveral inland waterways guides including Louise Busby and David Broad’sInland Waterways of the Netherlands and Barry Sheffield’s Inland Waterways ofGermany. A major new RCCPF guide to Cape Horn and Antarctic Waters byauthor and broadcaster Paul Heiney is a highlight for early 2017, as is a newCanary Islands Cruising Guide. Popular bestsellers such as Rod and Lu Heikell’sMediterranean Almanac and The Cruising Association Cruising Almanac are alsoall new editions for 2017.

Imray apps and digital developmentsIn early 2016, we took over the development of Imray chart navigator and anassociated suite of navigation apps, including the popular Tides Planner app.We have been working hard to relaunch the apps this year and there will bemajor developments and announcements in 2017. Keep an eye on our websitefor more details.

Our list is updated regularly and for the very latest information, chart updatesand book supplements see www.imray.com

Interestingly, it hasbeen constructed on a conical projection whichmeans that Great Circle tracks can be plotted asstraight lines rather than curves. The chart showsthe main trend of contours, limits of ice, magnetic variations and key routes as identifiedby D M Street. On the reverse are notes on the routes and smallwind rose charts, with accompanying chartsshowing excessive wave heights and stormfrequencies month by month.Chart 100 is an important companion forAtlantic yachtsmen on passage and an excellentsource of planning information

THE SHELL CHANNEL PILOTSouth Coast of EnglandNorth Coast of France Channel IslandsTom Cunliffe

When all the websites and the almanacshave come and gone, The Shell ChannelPilot remains the ultimate authority oncruising both sides of the English Channel.Ever since the 1930s, when Adlard Colespublished the original version, this seminalwork has been steadily upgraded andupdated. The three compilers who havelooked after it since its inception havenever tired. Under the Imray / Cunliffehouse flag since 1992, it represents morethan 80 years of effort.

This is the seventh Imray edition. The maintext is organised into defined sections, eachprefaced by comprehensive passage noteswritten by a seaman who has been theremany times and which lift the work farabove a simple harbour guide. The pilotalso includes a valuable ‘hand on theshoulder’ for Channel navigation as well asvital help with handling the increasingbureaucracy on both sides of the water.

The top-class pilotage notes, the plans, theaerial and approach shots for harboursgreat and small are unbeatable, while the

author's sometimes alarmingly frankremarks about shoreside facilities, forewarning mariners of impendingdisappointments as well as guiding them tounexpected delights, have become alegend. As a guide and a shipmate, there issimply nothing like it.
