The response is out of proportion to the trigger

No proven tx, but meds may help

Identifiable stressor (occurs within 3 months) Stress is more than expected

If not, think phase of life, normal reaction or V code

Significant impairment Not another disorder, not bereavement Does not persist for 6 months after stressor stops

If longer than 6 months AFTER END OF STRESSOR, think acute stress, PTSD, or other Mental disorder
