Improvements+for+Warren+G.+Lineberry+Community+Park+PFF#Presentation#to#the#Town#Council,#February#18,#2016#led#by#Jane#Cundiff### What+is+a+park+for?++For#people#to#enjoy#nature#and#each#other.##To#play#or#picnic,#to#laugh,#sing#dance,#play#music#or#just#sit#and#enjoy#life.##The+best+parks+have+a+diversity+of+compelling+niches+for+people+of+all+ages.+# The#Warren#G.#Lineberry#Community#Park#was#created#in#coordination#with#the#Town#Council#and#hundreds#of#Floyd#citizens#who#contributed#ideas,#labor,#money,#materials#and#love#to#our#community.##It#truly#is#a#park#built#by#and#for#the#people.##We#have#the#big#structures#built#–#the#patio,#the#big#stage#and#the#trellis#shelter.##But#now#it#is#time#to#bring#in#the#furniture#and#decorations#that#will#make#this#house#a#home.##The#stage#was#completed#in#2012.##Four+years+ago.##The#Town#decided#they#did#not#want#anything#else#built#for#“a#while”#while#we#waited#to#see#how#it#would#be#used.## The#park#is#beautiful#and#it#is#a#great#place#for#outdoor#events#and#for#children#to#run#and#play.+++BUT+C+We+have+a+very+big+park+that+is+underCutilized.++++So+how+can+we+change+that?##What+will+make+this+house+a+home+where+people+will+come+EVERY+DAY+to+enjoy+our+community+and+to+support+our+local+businesses?+++# We#have#2.7#acres#in#the#park#and#more#along#the#trail#to#the#Library.##This#is#a#huge#space#that#any#town#would#covet.##The#PFF#has#been#gathering#ideas#since#the#first#town#charrette#in#2007.##Hundreds#of#people#have#shared#desires#&#imaginative#designs#over#the#last#nine#years#to#bring#to#you#the#plan#we#have#today.##

Music&Center&for&the&Park!!!! !Music!is!at!the!heart!of!Floyd!County.!Young!and!old,!local!or!visitor,!we!lift!up!our!hearts!and!communicate!best!when!sharing!rhythm,!melody,!and!harmony.!!! Homemade!musical!instruments!tuned!in!pentatonic!scales!can!sound!good!together!and!never!clash,!no!matter!the!age!or!musical!skill!level!of!the!players.!They!can!be!enjoyed!by!themselves,!or!combined!with!music!brought!in!by!wandering!players!on!traditional!instruments.!Music!of!all!styles!can!be!shared,!too.!This!allows!for!much!creative!exploration!and!collaboration,!with!minimal!chances!of!disharmony.!Children!who!grow!up!playing!music!with!each!other!in!their!community!experience!social!connections!far!stronger!than!most!kids!in!today’s!world.!Adults!of!all!diversity!can!harmonize!with!music.!!! Most!people!do!not!have!musical!instruments!at!home.!A!music!center!in!the!park!will!be!an!attraction!for!classes!as!well!as!individuals!to!come!and!join!whoever!is!playing!–!any!day!of!the!week.!It!could!also!include!signs!&!instructions!to!encourage!participation!&!to!educate!about!the!physics!of!sound.!These!pictures!are!just!a!few!possibilities!of!homemade!instruments!that!could!be!locally!made!for!our!park.!We!would!like!to!build!a!shelter!that!will!protect!these!instruments!from!sun!and!rain!while!also!encouraging!natural!gatherings!of!participants.!!Instruments!will!be!designed!and!placed!to!control!volume!and!be!kept!tuned!by!musicians.!
