Importing Androidx86 into
Virtualization Software This document will show how to import the Androidx86 virtual machine into VirtualBox, but
this will also work in VMWare.
Let’s get started.
1. Go to IntroAndroidSecurity download | SourceForge.net
2. Click the External Link dialog box and select Androidx86
The download of the Androidx86 emulator will start. **Make sure to remember where
you saved the file as you will need this location later**
3. Open your virtualization software. In my case it’s VirtualBox
Below is a screenshot of the home page of VirtualBox.
Note: your home page will look different as I have virtual machines from other
endeavors.
4. Go to File → Import Appliance
5. The Import Appliance dialog box will open
6. Click on the folder on the right side and navigate to the location where you saved the
Androidx86 emulator from step 2. Note: In my instance, I have it in my downloads folder
7. Click on the Next button
8. The next screen is the appliance settings.
9. Click Import as we’re not changing anything on this screen.
10. The virtualization software will then start the importing process
11. Once the importing process is done the virtual machine will show inside the home page
12. Double click the Androidx86 virtual machine to start it
13. When the virtual machine starts, select the second option and press Enter
We’re selecting the second option as we need the emulator to complete a script to get
our host (computer) network settings.
14. A script will kick off after a while you will be presented with a command prompt
15. At this point type exit and press Enter
16. Type exit again and press Enter for the script to continue
17. Once the script is done the Android emulator will start
18. When the emulator starts you might be presented with a dialog box to ask if you want
to close app or wait. Select wait.
19. The emulator will start
20. Select the button with the 6 dots and select the terminal emulator
21. When the terminal starts enter the command ifconfig
22. Observe the wlan0 IP address
23. Great! The wlan0 has a valid IP4 address
24. Next, click on File → Close
25. Select Power Off The Machine and Press OK
26. At this point we’re back at the virtualization (in my case VirtualBox) home page
27. Double click on the Androidx86 virtual machine to start it
28. When the virtual machine starts, keep it on the first option and press Enter
29. The Android emulator will start
30. When the emulator starts you will be presented with the home screen
31. Click on the button with the six dots
32. Select Terminal Emulator
33. The terminal emulator will start
34. Enter the command ifconfig
35. Take notice of the wlan0 IP address – we will need that for our lab
