Great Scot International, Inc. was established in 1997 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

specializing in supplying food, candies and beverages manufactured by Scottish companies. Products such

as shortbread, oatcakes, heather honey (and haggis!) have been uniquely associated with Scottish fayre. Fine

blends of tea have been produced Scottish tea companies since the 1800’s. The ubiquitous Scottish whisky

has been used to add a subtle taste to orange marmalades, mustards, honeys and candies. Great Scot is the

sole importer of Scotland’s other national drink - Irn-Bru - a citrussy vanilla soda that is the top selling CSD in

Scotland.

Scottish foods and candies are made form all natural ingredients with no artificial flavoring and

coloring. Some products are uniquely suitable for diet intolerant consumers eg Nairns oat cookies. The

packaging of Scottish products is outstanding often with a splash of tartan.

We import all our products direct to our warehouse in Charlotte NC and supply distributors throughout the

US as well as retailers direct.

Shortbread House of Edinburgh is a small family run bakery based in Scotland’s historic capital.

All the shortbread, cookies and cakes made by Shortbread House are genuinely made by hand using traditional methods. This gives their products a unique taste and texture which is impoddible to achieve with mechanised production. Shortbread House make all of their products freshly to order.

The superiority of Shortbread House’s products has been endorsed by the company winning 37 of the prestigious Great Taste Awards over the years, including one Gold award and two Gold awards in 2009.

Mackies at Taypack is joint venture company combining the expertise of two Scottish family businesses.

Mackie’s of Scotland, an ice cream manufacturer in Aberdeenshire and Taypack, potato growers and processors in Perthshire, have come together to produce a new range of thick cut potato chips (crisps).

Mackies Chips contain all natural ingredients and are made with locally grown potatoes.

A Unique Cooking ProcessWe use thermal oil (not direct gas) to heat up the frying oil – this prevents hot spots in the fryer. This keeps the FFA, peroxide and polar values to a minimum. This ensures a longer shelf life and a consistent fresh taste of potato.

Our frying process achieves better fat levels - 24-26% which is lower than the average crisp.

We use only high oleic sunflower oil, which has the most suitable fatty acid profile for frying

Our frying process ensures a low acrylamide content

Our frying process is continuous but we can replicate the temperature profile of a batch fried crisp. We can alter temperatures and times within different sections of our fryer. We can therefore vary the crispiness & hardness of the crisp – to meet any brief.

With 400 hives covering 100 square miles of Dumfries & Galloway, John Mellis is fast becoming known as one of Scotland’s most successful bee farmers, with his honey in great demand for it’s unique flavour.

The distinctive flavour of his honey is down to the countryside the hives are positioned in, with trees, wild flowers and heather providing the nectar the bees need. The award winning blossom honeycomb is produced in spring, and its delightful flavour is the result of hawthorn and sycamore. John Mellis works hard at achieving such distinctive flavours in his honey, actually transporting hives throughout the season to the most interesting flower sources to save the bees making long flights in search of their precious nectar!
