About the Program ……
The 2003 Symposium seeks to identify keyissues and stimulate innovative thinking toinform policy and system’s change to enhanceafter hours care and of course, address thatelusive question – what are the supermodels?
The Models
Under the National After Hours PrimaryMedical Care Grants Development Program, anumber of models of after hours care havebeen developed, tested and implemented. Thekey components of these models includepeople, systems and information – componentsthat are integral to the development of qualityafter hours services.
The Program
The Program comprises plenary sessionsfeaturing guest speakers and concurrentdiscussion sessions managed by facilitators andfeaturing key informants. Display booths willalso be on show, providing stakeholders withan opportunity to exhibit their activities andachievements.
The Streams
The Program has been divided into three keystreams:
• People – to address issues relating toworkforce, including training, consumerexpectations & behaviour, remuneration &incentives;
• Systems – to address issues relating to policy,regulations, organisational structures, quality &sustainability; and
• Information – to address issues relating tocommunication, including IT functions,education & access.
The Plenary Sessions
Plenary Sessions will include presentations byguest speakers on hot topics and key issuesrelevant to after hours primary medical care.There will also be presentations by facilitatorson the key issues and outcomes of theconcurrent discussion sessions.
The Concurrent Sessions
Concurrent Sessions will be held to discussvarious aspects of the program streams:
• Day One – each session will be chaired by aMember of the After Hours Evaluation &Policy Advisory Group (EPAG). Paper presen-tations will be delivered by key stakeholders,including successful grant recipients. Thesessions will be informal, offering partic-ipants an opportunity to identify & discusssolutions to the challenges presented in theafter hours environment.
• Day Two – each session will be managed bya facilitator & assisted by key informants.The informants will deliver short presen-tations relating to their areas of expertise,particularly their experience of what’srequired to create a good model of afterhours care. The sessions will be an informal‘chat show’ set-up, with the opportunity fordelegates to participate & stimulatediscussion on developing quality services.
The Entertainment
• The Symposium Dinner promises to be a finedining experience (with jazz & stunningviews).
• To wrap up the Symposium, a wittyhypothetical will be presented, featuringstars of the after hours arena - all will berevealed on the day!Re
