The 21st century has witnessed the rapid development of the
technology, particularly information and communication
technology (ICT), which has changed not only how we live
and behave, but also how we interact, even how we per-
ceive knowledge and this world. The growingly ubiquitous
kinds of technology have intruded all aspects of life and
posed both opportunities and challenges in myriad fields,
including education. Moreover, ICT has also diminished the
geopolitical boundaries and thus created a borderless, limit-
less world where humans from different corners of the
earth, different sociocultural and linguistic backgrounds,
get connected, interact, and communicate. In conjunction
with this, the 21st century is also marked by a massive shift
in world politics, economics, and other factors. The accu-
mulation of these have called for attempts of redefining the
world as we know it today. For practitioners and enthusi-
asts of English language education, for example, the 21st
century have brought about some changes that force us to
redefine what we know and mean by language, language
learning, and teaching. We are challenged to view these
notions from broader perspectives and by integrating multi-
dimensional approaches beyond language itself in pursuit of
the betterment of English language education. As the suc-
cess of English language education is determined by numer-
ous factors such as teachers, curriculum, learning materials
and media, etc., research and discussions from various re-
lated fields are of great significance. To respond to this
challenge, English Education Study Program University of
Jambi took an initiative to hold a conference that will bring
together educators, researchers, experts, and enthusiasts to
Introduction share, discuss, and disseminate their studies and best practices
in the fields of English language education. Aimed at providing
a medium for discussion and sharing on various topics related
to the theme, the conference presents invited speakers from
Indonesia and overseas. Participants are expected to get en-
gaged in inspiring and enriching moments as they discuss,
gather, and network with colleagues from different places in
the conference titled English Education International Con-
ference (EDUTICON) 2015 .
