Livestock ID Sheets: All breeding beef, bucket calves, feeder calves, rabbits, sheep, goat and swine exhibits have to be identified on the appropriate forms. (Market beef have already been identified and registered). If you don’t have a form, please stop by or give us a call and we will get them to you. You can download sev-eral of the ID forms at: http://extension.unl.edu/statewide/webster/forms-affidavits/

All Livestock ID sheets must be in our office by June 15.

The new QA Curriculum called Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) is now active. Anyone who has not registered for the LQA online course for 2017 should now navigate to the NEW online YQCA course at yqca.learngrow.io. You will use your FAMILY 4HOnline login and password information to access the courses for the ACTIVE youth in your family. Only ACTIVE members will show in the drop down menu for access to the course. All registration questions with YQCA should be directed to [email protected]. There will not be local support for the YQCA program. All 4-Hers need to use the 4-H tab and not the FFA tab even if they are members of both organizations. There is a button for families that have forgotten their pass-word. 4-Hers that have started their QA training in the LQA site will be able to complete their modules and print off their certificate of completion and take it to their Extension Office. The YQCA site is user friendly and should make it easy for 4-H families to complete their QA train-ing for this year.

Don’t forget we have one more in-person class at the fairgrounds on May 17th at 6:30 p.m.

Don’t Forget: Anyone interested in entering the Broiler Contest at the Webster County Fair needs to order broilers through our office by May 1. We will then put an order with Welp Hatchery and will have them delivered to our office in June. We will let ex-hibitors know when they come in. Please note: The broilers must be ordered in twenty-five bird increments. Multiple pens of three can be shown at the fair but only one unit (pen of three) may be sold at the livestock premium auction.

Webster County Youth Council Notes! The Webster County Youth Council met on March 7th. A couple of decisions were made that we need to pass on to our families. First the Council decided to continue to conduct a Blow and Show rule for Beef Showmanship Classes only and allow exhibitors to fit their livestock for the live beef show, both market and breeding. The Council also decided to recommend that every exhibitor at County Fair, regardless if they are going to State Fair or Ak-Sar-Ben or just showing at County Fair have a Premise ID for ALL Market Animals. It is NOT required for County Only level just recommended! A Premise ID number can be obtained through the Nebraska Dept. of Ag. You will need to set up an account with either by email or phone. A. Ross Baker: [email protected] B. Jean Gibson: [email protected] C. Call 402-471-2351 and ask for Premises ID Information Provide the following: A. Name of the individual owning or in control of the location (parent,

guardian). B. Address C. Address where the animals are located and housed D. Phone number of the owner or control person of the location. An

email is optional, but not required. After completion of these steps, a Premises ID will be assigned and that information relayed to the account holder. If you believe you may already have a Premises ID on file, call 402-471-2351 and ask for Premises ID Information. Once you have a Premises ID (or if you already have one), please report that number to our office so we can get it recorded in our system!

REMEMBER, IF SHOWING AT STATE FAIR OR AK-SAR-BEN A PREMISES ID IS REQUIRED!

The Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute is a week long experience for high school juniors and seniors from all across Nebraska to learn about career opportunities within agriculture. This conference features speakers, workshops, agricultural education, networking with peers and industry leaders, professional development, leadership experience, fun and new

friends!

Forty-six years ago, the Nebraska Department of Agriculture realized it had to do something about the ever-increasing problem of young people leaving the farms and ranches of Nebraska. The idea of an institute is to expose young people to the opportunities available in agriculture. The original NAYI pro-gram was developed through cooperation between the Nebraska Dept. of Ag and 18 college-age young men and women who formed the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council (NAYC) which now carries on the NAYC tradition of passion for the agricultural industry.

The delegates are what make NAYI what it is. Their enthusiasm and genuine interest make the week an unforgettable experience. Delegates are chosen through an application process highlighting their interest, involvement, leadership and achievement in agriculture. These delegates have the opportunities to share their ideas with local, state and national speakers, along with young people from all across Nebraska.

The Conference will run from July 10-14, 2017 at UNL East Campus. Applications are due April 15th! Apply online at www.nda.nebraska.gov/nayi

Celebrate all things Nebraska and 4-H

through this unique virtual scavenger hunt!

Nebraska 4-H, in partnership with the Nebraska 4-H Foundation, is celebrating the Nebraska Statehood 150 with the 4-H Clover Chase. Between March 1 - August 15, 2017, Nebraska 4-H will be hosting a photo scavenger hunt for all 4-H members. Each participant who completes the chase will receive a commemorative water bottle and be entered to win a drone!

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS STEP 1: Download the App

Download the Eventzee App for iPad or iPhone or for Android. Once installed, enter the code below to begin playing.

Event Code: NE4HChase

STEP 2: Complete Challenges Refer to the Eventzee Player Guide to complete the challenges as listed in the app (examples include taking a photo of a local celebrity, a leading industry, the tallest building in the county, and more). Submit photo entries on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). Be sure to include your county name and the 4-H clover in each photo or post. Once your photo is submitted, you’ll get points.

Important: Be sure to ask permission before taking a photo of or with another person and posting on social media! We do not recommend that youth under the age of 13 should utilize the app without parent permission.

STEP 3: Collect Points You will recieve points for each photo submitted using the guidelines in STEP 2. Complete enough challenges to get 150 points. Each submission must be a unique photo. One photo per challenge. Photos cannot be used more than once.

STEP 4: Claim Your Prize Each participant who completes the chase and collects 150 points will receive a “4-H Clover Chase” commemorative water bottle. Everyone who receives a prize for completion will be put into a drawing to win a drone with video capability. The Nebraska Extension Office with the highest percentage of participation wins a free National Youth Science Day kit.

Show proof of completion at your local Nebraska Extension Office to get your water bottle and be entered to win a drone! The 4-H Clover Chase ends August 15, which means you have approximately 150 days to get out and show us what your county is made of!
