First Reception transition visit—8:45am—11:00am

There has certainly been enough stormy weather recently with all of

the hurricanes, typhoons, earthquakes and floods around the world.

The strong winds, in Murray Bridge, on the weekend even delayed

the start of the Pedal Prix race for four hours. Have you ever been

caught in a storm and felt scared about what might happen, or

experienced the damage and devastation that they can bring?

Jesus calms the storm (Mark 4: 35-41) was a timely message for

Chapel a few weeks ago, which the Year 4 class led and also shared

with the residents of Riverview Rest Home.

It had been a long day. Jesus and his

disciples sailed out onto the lake and

Jesus promptly fell asleep. A storm came

up bigger than they had ever experienced

and in fear they woke Jesus. "Don't you

care if we drown?" (v 38). Jesus got up,

told the storm to be still and it became

calm again. The disciples were left

wondering who is this Jesus that even the wind and waves obey him.

We often experience stormy times in our lives, when things go

wrong and seem a little out of control - illness, relationship issues,

financial difficulties, disappointments, etc. We are reassured by the

disciples’ experience, that we can be brave, even in troubled times,

because God does care and has promised to always be with us. He

doesn't always calm the storm, but he can keep us calm so that we

can be brave and find His peace.

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

May God's peace and love bring you calm, today and always.

A few words……… By Terry Sawade

26th September 2017

Footy Colours Day

To mark the occasion of a South Australian team being represented in the AFL Grand Final on Saturday, we are having a ‘Footy Colours’ day on Friday. Children who wish to, will be permitted to wear their favourite team’s footy colours. This does not have to be AFL or SANFL teams, but local or any other teams with which the children may associate.

Friday is still a formal school uniform day, but beanies, scarfs, footy jumpers etc can be worn with or over the formal uniform.

Please note, this is not a day for wearing casual clothes and there will not be a gold coin donation for charity fundraising.

Bus Notifications

Parents of children who normally travel on our Lutheran School buses as well as the DECD buses are reminded to contact the school office if there is a change to their child(ren)’s use of the bus for a day/week or longer.

The frequency of the departure of buses in the afternoons is becoming increasingly delayed as we try to locate children whose names remain on the list but who have made other travel arrangements for that day.

Your assistance in helping us to have the buses depart as punctually as possible is appreciated.

Dear Parents,

Pedal Prix

Congratulations to all involved with our “Divine Speed’ team’s involvement in the Pedal Prix 24 hour race held at Murray Bridge last weekend. In particular, well done to our team of students - Riley Grosse, Shaun Fulham, Cooper Morgan, Ashton Kershaw, Lucas Cockshell, Zane Sheffield, Sid Johnston, Bradley Rudiger, Sarah and Ruby Payne, Erin Battams, Hudson Eckermann (pit crew), Kye Fielke, Darcy Obst, Carter Wright and Braam and Francois Pauer,

Also thank you to all parents who were there during the weekend and provided such welcome support. To Brendan Cockshell (Team Manager) and Jill Obst (Catering Co-ordinator) thank you for the extensive time and effort spent planning and making sure that all ran well – and it certainly did.

Everyone is to be commended for the excellent result. The bike kept circulating consistently for the entire race, crossing the line in 22nd position out of 54 teams in the primary school category. The team completed 249 laps of the 1.73km circuit which translates to a distance of 430.77km for the entire race. Our overall position, in a field of 206 competitors, was 143rd. The fastest lap for the team was recorded on lap 226 at an average speed of 36.54km/h.

As a community building opportunity, this event ranks near the top. It is also important that we acknowledge and thank the Loxton High School, its staff, parents and students, who were so gracious with sharing resources and supporting our team.

All in all, the Pedal Prix weekend was certainly a wonderful experience and one which, for those thinking about being involved in the future, is highly recommended. Once again, well done to all!

summer uniform. Many children would have grown considerably in the 6 months since they last wore their summer uniform. Parents are advised to check this and avail themselves of the holiday uniform shop opening times (mentioned later in this newsletter) if they need to purchase new summer uniform items.

Thank-you

As I look towards starting my last term not only as Principal of this wonderful school, but as an educator of nearly 43 years, I continue to be amazed by the level of support our school community continues to provide for the teachers and administration of the school. It is this school community which underpins the positive environment in which we work, play and educate. Thank you for your continued support this term as we look forward to the rewards of what we hope will be an outstanding Term 4.

Enjoy the company of your child(ren) during the school holidays. Continue to love and cherish them as they are a blessing from God and your most precious gift.

Yours in Christ,

Terry Sawade

Wow, what a busy term, Term 3 has been! The children have

experienced so many wonderful planned and incidental

learning experiences. They have enjoyed exploring and learning

in the ELC environment and have loved the role-play corner that

is set up to meet the children's interests. This area enables the

children to further develop their imagination, social skills, oral language and with

lots of real and natural resources available, the children can use the space as

they wish, to learn and explore in their own time.

Creativity has been expressed through painting, playdough, pencils, the

construction corner, the use of loose parts and the resources available at the

making table. The musical instruments have been another way for the children to

express their creativity as well as dancing and singing.

This term we participated in Book Week, dressing up each day as a character

from a book, with the Friday children being involved in the schools Book Week

parade. We went on an excursions to the Loxton Public Library for a Book Week

activity and The Chaffey Theatre for a live performance called “Yo Diddle

Diddle.” We spent several weeks preparing for the concert and did an awesome

job performing our item on the stage on the concert night. We had some special

visitors from the Loxton Day Care who came to participate in some activities with

us. Also participating in the usual GMG, library borrowing, JP playground visit and

chapel we have certainly had a busy term of fun and learning.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR:

IT’S BACK! A Scholastic Book Fair is being held next term, beginning on the Continental night,

in our school library. Brochures will be sent home early next term to show just a few of the many items that will be available.

This is a great opportunity to purchase some books to

indulge your children

encourage them to become enthusiastic readers!

Every purchase benefits the school.

Dates: Friday 27th October (at Continental) - Friday 4th November

Place: Library

Continental Night: The Book Fair will be in the LLS Library—do check it out!

If there are any parents who are available to volunteer for an ‘extra’ job on Continental night

and could assist with the Book Fair, please let me know via the school email or pop in and see me in the library on a Monday or Tuesday. Any help would be appreciated as it can get quite

busy.

Former Students’ Library

The Former Students’ Library is a program whereby the Year 7 students of our school are

given the opportunity to donate a book to the school library. These books are a reminder to the remaining students, of the Year 7s’ time at the school and the contribution they have

made.

The visit of the Scholastic Book Fair early next term is the perfect opportunity for Year 7 students to choose a book to donate. A note giving more details of how this program works

will be sent home to the Year 7 students this week, so that they are able to give it some

thought and discuss it with parents over the holidays.

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE

The student data has now been entered. Congratulations to all the students who completed this year’s challenge. 95% of our students completed the

Challenge this year which is a wonderful effort. Presentations of certificates

and medals will take place late in Term 4.

REFORMATION DAY SERVICE—CHOIR:

Students from our school have been asked to sing at the Reformation Day Service in the LIFE

Centre at 10am on Sunday 5th November. Our students will be joined by some students from other local schools. I spoke to classes yesterday and those students who indicated that they

were interested in being a part of this event were given

notes. If your child did not receive a note but would like one, extra notes are available at the front desk of

the library. Practices will begin next term.
