Vision: Subsequent accelerating growth rates in modern cities emphasized the need for integrated action plans for vernacular and future urbanism and urged the need to provide essential remedies for inherited problems. Some cities in Jordan are historical settlements dating back to prehistory, and others are emergent settlements reflecting the need to dwell in certain localities. However, most of these cities developed by contiguous cellular growth with little planning. These facts inflicted the quality of life in cities of the region as well.

Mission: Our mission is to provide the society with professional planners who will develop the urban environment of this region of the world. The department takes on its responsibilities by equipping students with skills, and hands-on experiences to critically develop and promote their creativity and future career knowledge. This mission is carried out by a team of expertise that are educated and furnished to create the change to enhance life and equity in modern cities.

Program Objectives: Introduce students to various design methodologies, and develop explicit visual communication processes. Equip students with theoretical base, technical skills, analytical techniques, and critical thinking to engage in design challenges. Encourage continuous education, self-learning technique, and teamwork to enhance students' skills and level of creativity. Integrate knowledge from the multiple disciplines in order to provide diverse job opportunities for students including, but not limited

to, graphic design, multimedia, animation, and film making. Provide students with opportunities to engage in innovative design through local and regional competitions.

Program Learning Outcomes: Our graduate will have solid practical and theoretical knowledge in the fields of product design, animation, multimedia, information and communication design, graphic design, and film making. This will qualify them to confront the complex practice of innovative design, and to develop the discipline and rigor required agenda to develop an authentic work. So, they are expected to act as strategists, problem-identifiers, problem-solvers, and business planners. Also, they will have the ability to pursue further studies and research nationally and internationally.

sheets. Students will practice and understand the animation process from concept through final production. Individual projects and in-class projects will be assigned.

DV 464 : Rigging for Computer Animation ( 3Cr. Hr) prerequisite (DV 362)

This course provides a further exploration into the specialized art and mechanical science of rigging using multiple types of 3D objects for animation, using the most up to date techniques and styles. Students will solve complex, real-life issues dealing with the controls and deformation of characters and mechanical devices. Students will also learn problem-solving skills to overcome limitations of software and computers.

DV: 465 Particle Effects (3Cr. Hr) prerequisite (DV 362)

This course focuses on the creation of visual effects for animation. Projects will consist of creating effects such as snow, rain, wind, confetti and fire, which will be composited into animation. Special attention will be paid to setting, mood and composition. Students will leave this class with some demo reel quality material.

DV 466 3D Character Animation studio (3Cr. Hr) prerequisite (DV 362) This course further develops character animation concepts. Class exercises emphasize the development of acting and character animation skills. Students will practice character thinking, changes of emotion, and speaking (lip-sync animation). The course will involve animation projects; one project will focus on the animation of a quadruped (such as a dog), and another short project will animate two characters using existing models with dialogue and camera cuts

DV 467: Action Analysis (3Cr. Hr) prerequisite (DV 362)

This course concentrates on human and animal movement. Students explore issues of anatomical motion relevant to the animation industry, such as skeletal pivot points, figure weight, balance and momentum, through gestural, automatic and other drawing-in-motion techniques.

DV 471 : Studio video and sound Editing (3Cr. Hr) prerequisite (DV 372)

The course explores the basic concepts relevant to sound and digital audio; and reviews sound impacts on human perception. Emphasis is on developing sensible techniques in creating original sound assets for integration with other media. Topics include physics of sound, Digital Audio Workstation, recording tools and techniques, electronic sound synthesis, Musical Instrument Digital Interface, digital audio formats and standards, hearing mechanism and sound impact on human orientation. Students learn basic understanding of conceptualizing and executing sound designs, techniques to create original sound design elements at intermediate level.

DV 472: Cinematography for Broadcast Design ( 3Cr. Hr) prerequisite (DV 372)

This course addresses camera operation, lenses, film stocks, filters, lighting and light measuring, as well as the art and aesthetics of cinematography. Through hands-on practice and exercises, students are introduced to the science behind lighting ratios and exposures, film stocks and emulsion tests, and televise transfers.

Design and Visual Communication Program

Directed study is the primary concentration of an MFA candidate's work toward the completion of a Final Thesis Project. Following approval of the Midpoint Review Committee of their thesis projects, students will work one-on-one with advisors to develop specific conceptual and technical skills that will enable them to successfully bring their Final Thesis Project to completion. Every three units of Directed Study require one hour of meeting time per week with advisors, plus six to twelve hours of research and design work. Specific goals are stated at the beginning of the semester and students and advisors will work toward these goals. Each student must maintain a Directed Study Journal documenting each exchange with the Directed Study Advisor.
