  • COVID-19 Cases – Follow-up

    COVID-19 Helpline:

    • at the end of last week a sudden increase of (5) persons with COVID-19 symptoms within 24 hours

    • all tests were negative

    • persons have to stay at home (advice from attending doctor)

    • regularly contacted by Medical Service,

    • in case of aggravation or more COVID-19 symptoms – second test will be done

unnecessary delays in search of medical doctors prescribing the tests

-> CERN’s consultant medical doctor will issue the prescriptions for MPs

  • Safety Training

COVID-19 training course (e-learning) is available from 12th May (today)

    Refresher courses:

    • most of them are e-learning (e.g. RP Controlled Areas).

    • for those that need physical presence (Self Rescue) the validity will be automatically

prolonged by Safety Training – by checking the names on the whitelist.

Bat 55 (access card office) is no longer adequate for newcomers to do e-learning

    • alternative premises are being prepared (safety training center in Prévessin?)

    • cumbersome logistics, loss of time and efficiency for newcomers (contractors included!)

    ED meeting 12th May 2020 EDMS 2374975

  • Safety Training

    3 face-to-face courses are mandatory

    Self rescue masks

via Vidyo(demonstration in the tunnel mock-up is suspended for the time being)

Radiation Protection Training for Controlled Areas

    via Vidyo

    Electrical safety

    via Vidyo

    All available from 18th May

    onwards

  • HSE on HVAC Under COVID-19

Ventilate indoor spaces as much as possible with fresh air

    • Offices, meeting rooms – open windows and doors

    • to create a strong draught

    • at least every 2 hours for a minimum duration of 10 min

    • Ventilation system (supplying fresh air): keep the ventilation on 24/7

    • Clean rooms:

    • HEPA filtration exists AND air renewal rate / h > 12 – no additional measures (besides masks

    and d > 2 m)

    • Other:

    • Use of goggles or face shields (in addition to masks) for distances < 2m

    • Use of face shields (in addition to masks) for distance < 2m AND in closed, confined,

indoor environments (95% risk reduction for inhaling large droplets in < 1m distance [1])

    • Data centers and similar – mask + face shields

    • Control rooms – air measurements planned for the CCC by EN/CV – report will be issued

HSE is asked to give advice

    (related to surface buildings)

    ED meeting 12th May 2020 EDMS 2374975

    Obligatory:

    • masks

    • physical distance > 2m

  • Systems to Cool Indoor Air

    9

    Recirculating

    A/C Unit for

    comfort

    (office-type split

    systems)

    Full (or partial) fresh

    air cooling

    (cooling battery in

    Air Handling Units -

    AHU)

    Switch-off

    Allowed !

    Reduce max capacity

    in surface bldgs. if

    fresh air < 100%

    e.g. 50 % fresh air and 50%

recirculation - possible solution is to

reduce the occ. capacity to 50%

    ED meeting 12th May 2020 EDMS 2374975

  • Conclusion

    • CERN COVID-19 related health and safety measures are being implemented

    • A lot of good will in the Groups and Departments

    However

    • many comments on wearing of masks (not all colleagues are convinced)

    • 2 masks/person/day seems insufficient for a number of persons (e.g. hay fever, heavy physical work, etc.); 3 – 4 masks/person/day for certain categories of personnel?

    • A lot of practical questions – mainly HSE and SMB related

Protection concept of ‘Jardin des Particules’ checked and approved by HSE
