Implant Year Course 2020
Introduction
Learn how to place and integrate dental implants into your dental practice, in association with Boyne Dental and BioHorizons. The aim of this modular Implant Course is to clinically train the dentist in implantology and equip the delegates with the key skills needed to successfully integrate implants as a treatment option into the practice.
Throughout the course delegates will cover:
• The essentials in treatment planning• Surgical and prosthodontic skills needed to complete the course with confidence• Preparing and developing the skills of the practice team to efficiently support the implantologist
To allow for a conducive learning environment this course is limited to 6 dentists.
Delegates should have a minimum of 2 – 3 years post graduate experience with evidence of basic oral surgery skills.
Each delegate will receive mentorship and guidance throughout the course.
COURSE OVERVIEW
EXPERIENCE
Tutor
David MurnaghanDavid Murnaghan qualified from Queens University Belfast in
2006. He completed a year-long implant certificate at age 24
with Dr Raj Patel in 2007 and has continued to be mentored by
Dr Patel up until the present day. David has worked in several
private practices North and South of the border in Ireland. He
has placed and restored over 900 implants and carried out
many smile makeovers and full mouth rehabilitations.
Since qualification David has invested in numerous postgraduate
courses including a year-long Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry
Certificate at the Eastman UCL in 2009. He became a member of the Joint Dental Faculties RCS (Eng) in 2010.
David is now the Director of the Northern Ireland Division of the Royal College of Surgeons Faculty England
and is the youngest ever director of this at age 33.
In 2012 David set up Boyne Dental and Implant Clinic initially as a squat practice and this has progressed into
a bespoke 5 surgery practice in the Old Courthouse building in Navan town centre. Boyne Dental and Implant
Clinic was recently voted Best New Dental Practice in Ireland 2016. David was also a Finalist in the Rising Star
category at the Irish Dental Awards 2016.
As evidence of the commitment to clinical excellence Boyne Dental and Implant Clinic has invested in a Sirona
CBCT scanner (for which he is a Key Opinion Leader in Ireland) to aid implant treatment planning and accepts
referrals from practices North and South of Ireland. Boyne Dental most recently won overall Best in Customer
Care at the Meath Business Awards 2017.
In 2018 David has spoken at events on both Implant Dentistry and the Business of Dentistry across Ireland and
the UK. He has been mentoring local practitioners within the Implant field for over 6 years and is now into his
second year teaching practitioners how to place implants on his Implant Year Course. David is married to Carol
they have 4 kids and David enjoys escapism through playing competitive Water Polo.

The auxiliary dental team can also learn how to incorporate implant dentistry into the practice. There will be dedicated sessions offered from Boyne Dental’s Treatment Co-ordinator, Nurse, Practice Manager and Receptionist.
Dental Technician, Michael Allison will also deliver training as part of the course. Michael works for Gordon Watters Dental Lab, Belfast, who are Boyne Dental’s partner dental laboratory. He will demonstrate how the dental technician is an integral role when offering dental implants.
Course delegates are encouraged to bring auxiliary staff on the applicable module days. Auxiliary staff training is included in the delegate course fee.
AUXILIARY STAFF
Delegates will have the opportunity to place a minimum of 1 implant during this course. Delegates will be allocated at least one live surgical training day out of the dates shown in module 4. Details to be confirmed during the course.
The delegate must bring their own patient for this and note that the patient must pay Boyne Dental for the implant treatment (at a reduced rate).
