WELCOME

Over the past decade the landscape of impact investing has dramatically

grown and evolved. In 2017 the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) reported $228 billion dollars of impact investment assets under management. This year, that figure is up to $502 billion, still a fraction of global assets under management, but an encouraging trend. From the investor perspective, individuals are demanding more of their investments. They want to know that their money is not being invested in companies that do not treat employees well, or that damage our environment, or that have corrupt practices. Investors are demanding that their fund managers prove that their wealth is being invested responsibly. From the entrepreneurs’ perspective, it is almost unusual in 2019 to come across a start-up idea that is not positively impactful in some way. Everybody is thinking about how they can play their part. This is very encouraging and puts us all at the forefront of an exciting opportunity, to do good, and to do well at the same time, without compromise. We are talking about the double bottom line.

Watching C5 Accelerate grow, it has been fascinating to observe the diverse cohorts of innovators and creators come

through our doors. From all around the world, all backgrounds, all disciplines, each one talented in his or her own unique way. We see local solutions to global problems and global solutions to local problems; this pipeline of ideas is a constant source of inspiration, energy and reward. As we progress through today’s exciting agenda we will see many of these ideas address several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In this small but meaty agenda we have solutions for Agriculture, Energy, Financial Inclusion, Economic Empowerment, Cyber Safety and much more. The common denominator across all these panels, pitches and presentations is the transformative use of technology. At C5 we believe that cloud technology can help us scale ideas and solutions faster and more effectively than ever before.

So we invite you to sit back, but tune in, and take notes on where you’d like to spend your time, energy, and impact dollars to help us move the dial and drive positive change.
