Overview & DescriptionAt St. David’s HealthCare, we understand the challenges faced by new nurses. The Immersion Residency is a transition program for new RNs that have graduated from an accredited nursing program in the past six months. The program effectively orients new RNs to their role as independently practicing nurses. Offered three times a year (spring, summer and fall), the Immersion Residency successfully meets the needs of new RNs. Intended to support this transition, education is provided to bridge clinical knowledge and performance gaps identified in new graduate nurses.

“I feel like the residency helped me to see thebigger picture of L&D. A lot of the learningon the floor in the beginning is about how wedo things at our hospital. We are trying tomaster the systems and how to care for thebasic patients. The classroom time gave us achance to step back and learn about L&Dnursing as a whole and how to care for othertypes of patients and complications. Also, beingtogether and comparing and sharingexperiences was very helpful. We learned fromeach other and from the opportunity to askquestions about trends and practices we were seeing.“ - Ellie B., Labor and Delivery Resident
