An Oblate lay missionary is a person who: Volunteers their time and talents to serve God by serving others; Is inspired by the charism of St Eugene de Mazenod; Lives in community with other lay missionaries; Undertakes a personal formation program; Is open and willing to learn more about themselves by understanding more about others. Mission/Ministry Opportunities As a lay missionary you will assist in ministries in either Hong Kong or Beijing. These ministries may include teaching conversational English and work with sick and abandoned young children, in China. You do not need to be a trained teacher nor do you need to speak Chinese. In Beijing the services of an interpreter will be made available to you. Teaching English is a practical benefit to the children as it provides them with a skill that assists them in gaining employment later in their lives. Who should apply? Anyone who is: Active in their faith; Single or married; Early 20’s to early 60’s; Good health is essential as mission activity can be strenuous and physically challenging. Willing to learn from a different culture. Willing to live as part of a religious community with the disciplines and benefits involved therein. The sacrament of anointing of the sick is administered to the dying and to those who are gravely ill, those who are about to undergo a serious operation or those suffering from a long-term illness, for the recovery of their health and for spiritual strength. It is a ritual of healing, appropriate, not only for physical but also for mental and spiritual sickness. Is anyone sick among you? Let them bring in the priestsof the church, and let them pray over them.James 5:14 This sacrament is a true sacrament instituted by Christ and proclaimed by Saint James. It is administered by anointing with blessed oil accompanied by prayer. Only a priest can validly administer it. It can be received by any baptised person who has reached the age of reason and is given on account of sickness or age or in danger of death. Its effect is the strengthening of the soul often of the body as well, and in the necessary conditions, remission of sins. This rite is one way in which the church continues the healing ministry of Jesus. The healing offered by this anointing is forgiveness of sins, hope and inner peace, sometimes physical healing and an assurance of Gods steadfast care, even in death. In the past, this sacrament was often kept strictly for those close to death traditionally referred to as Extreme Unction or Last Rites. In more recent years, the Church has encouraged greater use of this sacrament for illness which is not necessarily life-threatening. As with all the sacraments, this anointing has significance for the whole Church. It reminds us of our call to wholeness and our call to be a sign of salvation to the world. Wherever there is brokenness we are to be instruments of Christs healing touch. A person may be anointed during any weekday Mass, before surgery or medical treatment, and at other times by request to a priest. Therefore, at the 10am Mass on the 30th Of July, we would like to offer the sacrament of anointing to anyone who feels the need for Gods special Grace of healing. Dear Parishioners,

SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING

When a Catholic is very sick, the Church anoints the person with oil in the special ritual of healing called Anointing of the Sick.

“Is anyone sick among you? Let them bring in the “priests” of the church, and let them pray over them.” James 5:14

This sacrament is a true sacrament instituted by Christ and proclaimed by Saint James. The healing offered by this anointing is forgiveness of sins, hope and inner peace, sometimes physical healing and an assurance of God’s steadfast care, even in death.

Fr Con Campbell OMI

How blessed are we here in Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Sefton! We have had so many wonderful Oblate Parish Priests, Father Con being one of them from 2005-2011.

Our Dear Fr Con passed away in Ireland on 19th July 2017, RIP.

Fr Con will be missed by his Oblate brothers and two sisters in Dublin. Towards the end of Father’s stay here his health was only fair but thank God he had a few years in the Oblate Retreat House in Inchicore, Dublin with his Oblates brothers and family and was not too ill.

Thank you Father Con for your prayerful leadership in our Parish. We were very much enriched by your presence with us. God Bless!

May many of us attend Mass here in Sefton at 7pm on Tuesday 25th July 2017 to pray in thanksgiving, for the repose of his soul RIP.

Healing Mass followed by ‘Parish Cuppa’

Next Sunday, 30th July followed by ‘Parish Cuppa’ and ‘Sausage Sizzle’ - run by our youth group, after the 10am Healing Mass. All welcome.
