IMDS STEERING COMMITTEE ADDRESSCLEPA MATERIALS REGULATION EVENT 2016

Matthew GriffinMaterials Engineering20 April 2016

– What did we do and why?

Tolerance

– The tolerance field has been removed from IMDS

– Mean weights and calculated deviations are focus

Standardised Deviation

– Measured weight versus calculated weight.

– Mass based ranges acceptable to all OEMs.

Polymeric Marking Check

– Aligns IMDS polymeric marking to requirements

Published MMDSs

– New role created

– Warning free / Preferred MMDS

RELEASE 10 RECAP

2

– Increasing burden on OEMs and SuppliersREGULATION COMPLEXITY

3

– Increasingly complex regulations

The Biocidal Product Regulation (BPR).

Requires more information than what is contained in the Material Data Sheet.

– Does you material contain an active substance?

– What is the intended function of this substance / material

– Has it been added for it's Biocidal properties?

– Has the Active Substance been approved for your Product Type

OEMs NEED TO KNOW IF BIOCIDES HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THEIR PRODUCTS.

WHAT ARE THE NEXT CHALLENGES

4

– Increasingly complex regulations

REACH AUTHORISATION..

Brings uncertainty to the supply chain..

– Is this material subject to authorisation?

– Was it produced outside the EU?

– Will you seek authorisation for my use?

– Am I still going to be able to purchase this material?

WHAT ARE THE NEXT CHALLENGES

5

– Reduces supply chain communication burden.

Reduces communication burden

– Centralises supply chain communication

– The ability for the OEM to request information direct to the Material Producer

– Entire supply chain receives the same information

– Supplier identity remains confidential

– Data input by request.

– Input wizard reduces reporting burden on the Materials Supplier.

The goal – a simple, easy to use interface, where BPR and REACH Authorisation information can be updated quickly by Material Supplier.

CHEMISTRY MANAGER

6

– You ask, we listen

IMDS Release 11 adds some features specifically requested from the supply base

– Features / issues identified from supplier organisations (CLEPA, AIAG, JAPIA)

– Several requests evaluated

– Supplier enhancements for Release 11:– Materials Forwarding– Obsolete data sheets– Remove GADSL checkbox

Please use your supplier organisations to identify an issues / enhancements that would be beneficial going forward

SUPPLIER REQUESTED FEATURES

7

– About time!

Forwarding MDSs

– New approach in Release 9.

– Maintain ID references for components and semi-components (maintain original ownership)

– Not possible to extend this logic for Material MDSs

Material Forwarding in Release 11

– Will be possible by creating a forward copy

– Material will be given a new MDS ID

– IMDS will maintain link to original ID

– Chemistry manager information will be from original MDS.

REACTIVATE MATERIAL FORWARDING

8

– I don’t want to see them anymore!

Marking data sheets obsolete

– Simple in operation - checkbox

– Removes obsolete MDSs from search queries

– Makes them “invisible”

MARKING DATASHEETS OBSOLETE

9

Regulations are becoming more complex – we need additional information to demonstrate compliance

Please provide Chemistry Manager if requested

Please work with your supplier organisations to bring issues / enhancement requests to our attention
