Dear Members, Donors, and Volunteers,Assalaamu Alaikum,

2018 has been a major transitional year for IMANA and IMANA Medical Relief (IMR), and because of support of friends like you, our mission has continued on as we transition from a member-based asso-ciation model to a service-based model. This paradigm shift arose from extensive strategic planning initiated in 2017. Our work toward accomplishing IMANA’s mis-sion to foster health promotion, disease prevention, and health maintenance in communities around the world through direct patient care, health programs, and advocacy continues to improve as we continually reassess progress and make investments that will be most impactful.

As we close out 2018 and look ahead to 2019, we would like to stop and reflect on this year of change and improvement.

At our 2018 annual convention in Cancun, the general body voted to change the bylaws of the organization resulting in the creation of singular Board of Directors. This will allow a more effective flow of deci-sion making for the organization creating a higher degree of efficiency and faster implementation of plans and policies.

IMANA is closely following the fundrais-ing and development plan created for the organization with IMR driving the pro-cess with an increase of 38% in dona-tions for 2018. The more individuals that are engaged with the work of IMR, the more lives can be saved. Our organiza-tion is now featured on Charity Navigator and GuideStar, which will increase our level of fiscal transparency. As in prior years, the CPA audit is included in this report as part of IMANA’s commitment to accountability.

IMANA Medical Relief dramatically in-creased the number of lives touched in the last year. In addition to our ongoing missions and health care projects, we sent over 40 teams for the new SaveRohingya mission this year. Started in late 2017 and with over 147,000 treated this year in Bangladesh, our total of Rohingya

patients who were provided free care crossed the 150,000 mark. We increased the number of medical missions to Jordan to six per year, and we launched our inaugural pediatric surgery mission to Palestine. The total number of pa-tients regaining their eyesight with the IMR-supported cataract surgery project in Pakistan reached 5,000. We remained engaged in Gaza and Yemen by sending large consignments of critically-needed medicines and supplies. Disaster relief this year included aid to those affected by the Indonesia tsunami, hurricanes Michael and Florence in the Southeast United States, and the wildfires in California.

As far as awareness goes, we have ex-panded our reach this year through events and promotional efforts. Our Evening With IMANA dinners reached Chicago, Denver, Cleveland, and Knoxville. We increased our social media followers by an average of 263% across our platforms. We have also increased engagement of the news media with coverage of our initiatives.

In order to keep the engine running at headquarters and to accommodate our rapidly growing international footprint, we have carefully invested in expand-ing our staff to allow us to carry on our operations with improved efficiency and performance in 2018. We continue to collaborate with our strategic consultant, Dr. Richard Klopp, to help us navigate our expanding projects and missions.

I hope you are making plans to join us from July 27-August 1 in Park City, Utah for our annual IMANA conference. Don’t miss out on this excellent opportunity for quality family time and networking within a program supporting Islamic values.

STrategic Plan UpdateMuch progress has been made against the com-prehensive strategic plan that IMANA set forth in late 2017. We have made inroads in lightening the hierarchical leadership of the organization by transitioning to a flat board of directors. Reas-sessment of the membership-focused logic of the organization and movement to a service-based model with IMANA Medical Relief (IMR) as a primary new donor and volunteer acquisition tool is complete. In this model, new donor and volunteer growth by necessity becomes the main developmental focus of the organization.

There is still much work that needs to be done. IMR and local U.S. medical service opportunities need tighter integration, and both need a stream-

lined platform for easy access, support, and great marketing. The IMANA HQ team requires more personnel investment for development, new donor and volunteer recruitment, and fund-raising, since historically there have been missed opportunities for new donors and volunteers with the current bandwidth.

All of the items mentioned above will require increased capacity to do state-of-the-art acquisi-tion, cultivation, and solicitation of this pipeline. More funds raised will allow for building more capacity at HQ to drive an organization that will be more fulfilling to its membership and be more agile and responsive to medical needs at home and abroad.
