I magine 40 years ago, when in 1974, three small churches risked leaving the past and launched into the future with a bold vision to do a greater work for God. Think of where we are today having celebrated a banner 40th Anniversary year

in 2014 in which we exceeded all expectations – imagine! This past year has been a time of unprecedented growth and impact marked by record setting attendances, baptisms, new members and generosity. Here we stand, poised for the next 40 years, as a leading Acts 2 lighthouse church in the region and knowing that our best days are ahead.

Now, imagine all that God will do through our continued obedience and trust as the Spirit prompts to create greater capacity for people to come to know

Jesus. It’s His story and our time.

They spent their time learning and they were like family to each other…All the Lord’s followers often met together, and they shared everything they had…And each day the Lord added to their group others who were being saved.

services, Good Friday and Easter services.

• Imagine having the capacity to continue growing one of the largest and most exciting Vacation Bible Schools, children’s and youth ministries of any church in Atlantic Canada.

• Imagine a church that has the mindset that it’s been blessed to be a blessing and is generously releasing more resources to make a difference both locally and globally.

Hillside Baptist Church: Imagine 3

Imagine the impact as we make extra space for people by building a new auditorium to enlarge our services. This would free up the old auditorium and give us additional opportunities to connect with even more children and their families through our thriving Premiere Family Ministries.

Will you imagine with us?

• Imagine your neighbours coming to Hillside and having their lives transformed by a relationship with Jesus Christ.

• Imagine your family members making God a priority once again.

• Imagine the excitement of inviting your co-workers to come with you on a Sunday. Then on Monday they tell you how meaningful it was and that they’re planning to go back for more.

• Imagine families making vital connections with other families as they grow and are encouraged together.

• Imagine what it would be like to see over 1,000 people worshipping the Lord and being deepened in their faith through our 52 fantastic Sundays each year.

• Imagine a whole new generation of children, teens, and young adults as well as their parents being nurtured in their faith and strengthened in their home life because of our highly valued premiere family ministries.

• Imagine having more seating available at optimal times to welcome bigger crowds and not have to turn anyone away at our annual Christmas Candlelight

2020 VisionBelieving our best days are ahead, we have a vision to be a thriving, healthy church ministering to 1,000 people on Sunday morning by the year 2020. As a leading Acts 2 lighthouse church in the region, our passion is to raise up a new generation of fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

The 4 key priorities (“Acts”) in our 2020 Vision are:

A ctivate movement (helping people take next steps through our Discipleship Diamond)

C ultivate a stronger sense of community (we value our warm, friendly atmosphere which begins with 52 fantastic

Sundays and will be increasingly supported by growth groups, opportunities to serve, and care ministries)

T arget Missional Priorities (focusing on our premiere family ministry while also strengthening our local/global

partnerships)

S trategic Phased Expansion (our first priority is a new finished and furnished auditorium in our overall phased

expansion master plan)

Since the highly successful Open Doors project in 2009, Hillside has a proven track record of wise financial stewardship, continued momentum and transformational impact. Some of the wins during the last five years include:• The new Waumba Land area (birth to age 4) is now

overflowing and had to be remodelled to provide more room (can’t imagine our ministry without it!)

• The popular youth cafe is used 7 days a week for various ministries and functions; also, it’s beyond capacity for Ignition on Friday Nights

• The expanded lobby and modern washrooms, which were essential to provide a more welcoming first impression for growing numbers of people coming through our doors (often more than 2,000 people every week)

• 130 baptisms since Open Doors (more changed lives)• 224 new Members welcomed and are now calling Hillside

home• Pledges totaling $1.325m were honored (97% pledge

fulfillment) for the Open Doors project • Hosted the largest Vacation Bible School in the region with

added space • Deepened generosity resulting in growing budgets, church-

supported mission trips and summer students at Camp Wildwood, plus over 100 children sponsored and profiled on our Global Kids Wall

• A significant reboot of our men’s ministry “Band of Brothers” with main events now exceeding 100 guys in attendance

• Successfully launched Sonshine Kids Academy after school program in 2013

• Now ministering to 500 children under the age 18 in weekly programs

• Conducted highly engaging Vision Next strategy with congregational focus groups and surveys in preparation for our 40th Anniversary Year; this resulted in the unveiling of our “2020 Vision” on Vision Night Oct 13, 2013 - there was a huge buzz in the building with over 200 HIllsiders present

week ministry including more than 100 who regularly “celebrated and served” on Sunday mornings in our parking, greeters, ushers, video cafe, worship, A/V, Waumba Land, KidZone, and Fuel ministry teams

• People served locally beyond our walls in our city and around the world on mission trips

ALL IN• 82 people attended the “All In” membership class and

became members

• Hundreds renewed their membership on our 40th Anniversary Sunday

Today, the physical constraints of our present facilities restrict our ability to pursue these passions in even greater ways. The Imagine campaign will make it possible to achieve our mission with exponentially greater impact.

Hillside’s mission is “To honour God by leading people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ”. Our goal is to challenge each person to take steps forward in their spiritual life, regardless of the length of time they have attended church. We believe our church will be healthier and more effective as we take those steps. The Discipleship Diamond helps people to connect, grow and serve as they go ALL IN for Jesus.

CONNECT• On average, more than 600 people attended Sunday

morning services (with a vision of 1,000 by 2020)

• 80 newcomers this year attended the “Getting Started” class

• Fostered a culture of invitation where friends invited their friends to church

GROW• Many people attended the “Grow” class

• More than 50% of adults attending Hillside are in a Story growth group

• Many people participated in core courses on spiritual formation, stewardship, marriage, and attended the annual Global Leadership Summit

• Hundreds of children and youth attended weekly premier family ministries

SERVE• Many people attended the “Finding Your Serve” class

• Hundreds volunteered weekly to sustain our 7 day a

The building plan that will build stronger communityHillside is known as a warm, caring and friendly church where community is valued and changed lives matter. It is a safe place for people to find and follow Jesus and get connected with other believers in a growing faith community. Our strong sense of community is a value we will continue to protect and strengthen going forward. We don’t want that to change! We simply want to create the space and opportunity for more people to participate in 52 fantastic Sundays, leverage programs in our premiere family ministries, and actively take next steps in becoming fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

The building project (estimated at approximately $4 Million) is broken down into two phases. The Imagine campaign goal for phase 1 is $2.5 Million.

Phase 1 focuses on:

• the construction of a new fully finished and furnished 500 seat multi-purpose auditorium equipped with state of the art audio and visual equipment. The new auditorium will be 8100 square feet.

• the expansion of our lobby by an additional 1431 square feet, bringing the total square footage of our lobby up to 2857 square feet.

• c re a t i n g a d d i t i o n a l parking for our growing congregation

IPSUM DOLOR SITLOREMTogether we are asking every person who calls Hillside ‘my church’ to do three things:a. Pray and re-surrender: “God, everything I have comes from you and belongs to you.”b. Listen as He speaks: “God, what would you have me do with the resources you’ve provided?”c. Obey: “God, yes – I will follow your leading. Plan to express your commitment on February 22, 2015.”Imagine will challenge us to do something that’s often difficult: sacrifice. It will stretch our faith, but also provide opportunities to see God move and provide in amazing ways. Together we’ll grow – both personally and as a church – beyond what feels safe and familiar, and toward our mission for the next 40 years. Your commitment will enable us to have an even greater impact in our community and around the world, just as the commitment of a small group of people 40 years ago has had an impact on you. Just imagine!

Commitment Sunday February 22, 2015On February 22, 2015 we would like every family and individual at Hillside to join us in making a radically generous commitment to the Imagine campaign. In order to reach our $2.5 million goal, it is important that every individual of our church is involved. This chart shows how everyone can play a part. It’s not equal gifts but equal sacrifice.

The Challenge

funds come in, it is our desire to complete the entire $4 million project by 2020.

4. When will the construction of Phase 1 begin?

Once the campaign results are in, the leadership will call a business meeting in March 2015 where the congregation will be asked to approve the financing of the project. Ideally, our hope is to break ground in April followed by 8 months of construction. Thus, we’re looking forward to being in our new auditorium by January 2016. Meeting this timeline is essential so we don’t lose any momentum in our fast growing ministry. We need the additional space now.

5. Is the vision to continue with 2 services or go back to 1 service after the new auditorium is built?

The vision is to continue with 2 services. There is strategic value in offering people the option of both 9am and 11am service times in today’s world. Also, with the anticipation of continued growth we will not be able to accommodate everyone in 1 service.

6. What is the pledge period?

We’re asking people to prayerfully consider making a 3 year pledge to the campaign and, if possible, to give a special gift (your first offering) to launch the campaign on Feb. 22, 2015.

7. How can I get involved?

We’re asking all Hillsiders to undertake a three-step spiritual process. First, pray and re-surrender, acknowledging that everything you have is from God. Second, listen to God as you ask what He would have you do with the resources He’s entrusted to you specifically related to Imagine. Third, obey His direction. If He leads you to participate, plan to make your financial commitment on Commitment Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015 and also bring your first offering to launch the campaign on this same day.

1. What is Imagine?

Imagine is a campaign to position Hillside for exponential impact in its next 40 years. It is the next step in our “2020 Vision”. We see Hillside as a thriving church ministering to over 1,000 people on Sunday mornings who will connect, grow, serve and be “All In” fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ. As a blessed church, we endeavor to be a blessing to our city, region, and the world. For everyone at Hillside, it is a call to:• embody the vision through love• uphold the vision through prayer• advance the vision through serving• resource the vision through sacrificial generosity

2. Is a large church scriptural?

Yes, the first church began on day one with 3,000 people and quickly grew to over 20,000. Jesus teaches us to do whatever it takes to reach one lost sheep. One of the reasons Hillside is growing is because of the genuine warmth and unique sense of community people experience at our church. This strong sense of community is something we value and will continue to foster through vital group life experiences, practical care ministries, and a warm, friendly atmosphere on Sunday mornings.

3. What is the cost of the expansion project?

The exciting “2020 Vision” which was shared with the church on Vision Night (Oct. 30, 2014) represents a total project around $4 million. However, to be financially responsible, the overall project has been strategically divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 is estimated at $2.5 million and prioritizes the completion of a new finished and furnished 500 seat multi-purpose auditorium. Phase 2 will complete a spacious lobby and basement plus provide for all of our parking needs. The speed at which we proceed to complete the entire project will be based on the response of the congregation. As the
