Template Cutting Instructions

Cut out Templates A, B, C and D making sure to include the outermost black line for the ¼” seam allowance. Templates C and D will be printed across multiple sheets of paper. Cut out each piece, align the black lines and tape in place for a full-size template. Cutting instructions for Fabrics A-U below indicate which template to use as well as quantity of pieces to cut.

Curved Piecing Instructions

1. Use the following curved piecing instructions as well as the fabric combinations listed to piece curved blocks.

2. Fold all Template A and Template B curved fabric pieces in half and press using an iron to create a crease at the exact center of the template.

3. Pair Templates A and B right sides together. Pin both pieces of fabric together at both ends of the templates. Use the pressed crease on both Template A and B pieces to pin the exact centers together.

4. Sew templates together using a ¼” seam. Sew slowly and use fingers to smooth edges as you sew for a nice finish. Press seams outward toward Template A.

5. Trim all curved blocks to 5½” unfinished.

Block A Construction

7. Create Block A using curved units created in Steps 6a-6d and (4) Fabric C 5½” squares. Lay out the block first frequently checking diagrams for accurate block orientation.

8. Piece Block A together in horizontal rows first alternating the direction in which you press the seams in each row.

9. Sew together horizontal rows to complete Block A.

10. Block A should measure 20½” unfinished. Repeat to create (5) Block A.

Block B Construction

11. Create Block B using curved units created in Steps 6e-6g and (4) Fabric E 5½” squares. Lay out the block first frequently checking diagrams for accurate block orientation.

12. Use the same piecing methods described in Block A instructions to piece Block B.

13. Block B should measure 20½” unfinished. Repeat to create (4) Block B.

Block C Construction

14. Create Block C using curved units created in Steps 6h-6j and (4) Fabric D 5½” squares. Lay out the block first frequently checking diagrams for accurate block orientation.

15. Use the same piecing methods described in Block A instructions to piece Block C.

16. Block C should measure 20½” unfinished. Repeat to create (4) Block C.

Block D Construction

17. Using curved piecing techniques described in above steps, complete Block D using (2) mirror image Fabric A Template D pieces and (1) Fabric B Template C piece as shown in the diagram. Pin templates together at the beginning, end and middle to hold templates in place.

18. Sew templates together to complete Block B. When completed, Templates C and D should create a triangle. Triangles will be used as setting triangles on all sides of the quilt top. Press seams outward toward Template D. Repeat to create (8) Block D triangles as shown in the diagram.

Quilt Top Assembly

19. Create sashing strips by sewing together Fabric G 1½” corner stone squares and Fabric F 1½” x 20½” strips together. Alternate between Fabric G squares and Fabric F strips. Begin and end each sashing strip with a Fabric G square. Press seams toward Fabric F. Use the following guide for sashing quantity.

19a. Sew (2) Fabric G squares and (1) Fabric F strip. Repeat to create (2) sashing strips.

19b. Sew (4) Fabric G squares and (3) Fabric F strips. Repeat to create (2) sashing strips.

19c. Sew (6) Fabric G squares and (5) Fabric F strips. Repeat to create (2) sashing strips.

20. The quilt is assembled using a diagonal setting. Lay out the quilt top according to the quilt diagrams using (5) Block A, (4) Block B and (4) Block C. (8) Block D are used as setting triangles along all sides of the quilt and (4) Fabric A 15” HST are used to create the corners of the quilt. Place (1) Fabric F 1½” x 20½” sashing strip in between each block in the diagonal block rows. Use sashing strips created in Steps 19a-19c in between each diagonal block row as shown.

21. Once you have confirmed that all blocks are correctly placed, sew together the quilt top in diagonal block rows first. Press all seams toward the sashing strips.

22. Sew together the diagonal block rows to complete the quilt top as shown in the Quilt Assembly Diagram on Page 8.

Finishing

23. With the backing fabric laying taut, place batting and then quilt top to form quilt sandwich.

24. Baste sandwich. Quilt as desired.

25. Bind with Fabric F to finish quilt.
