ISBE MISSION STATEMENT

The Illinois State Board of Education will provide leadership, assistance, resources and advocacy so that every student is prepared to succeed in careers and postsecondary education, and share accountability  for doing so with districts and schools.

Current Illinois Initiatives Rule changes to strengthen content for Teachers Rule changes for endorsements for elementary, middle, and

high school teachers Strengthen testing by reviewing Passing Scores on Content

Tests Redevelop new Assessment of Professional Teaching (APT) Grade of “C” or above required for all course work for

program and endorsements effective February 1, 2012 Secondary Endorsements require 24 s.h. (12 s.h. of upper

division) and pass the content test; except science and social studies which is 32 s.h. (12 s.h. in designation)and pass the test-effective February 1, 2012

Structure Principal Endorsement

PK – 12 Level Teacher Leader Endorsement The Principal and Assistant Principal must hold the

Principal Endorsement (legislative action need) “Introduction to Evaluation of Certified Staff”

component A teacher holding the teacher leader endorsement

can: take the evaluation component and can qualify to evaluate

staff if the teacher chooses qualify for Supervisory Endorsement

Internship/Residency Internship: One year experience over a time period of

12-18 consecutive months and must include: 4 weeks full-time residency experience. Each week must be a

minimum of 5 consecutive days and may or may not be consecutive weeks

Additional minimum of 200 hours of clinical hours throughout the 12 month internship year.

10 hours with Special Education teachers and curriculum and 10 hours with IEP and/or 504 Plans

Higher Education Actions

All programs must be resubmitted under a new format, must align to ISLCC 2008 Revised Standards, and must meet all new requirements

All programs will be required to be approved by ISBE and IBHE

Programs not approved or not submitted will have an ending date

Will be required to complete new programs and receive new endorsement (2013 or before, tentatively)
