Editorial :: Head Offi ce DOMKO LTD, Sofi a, Bulgaria ::

Dear Readers.

Despite all counterstatements the profes-

sion of a designer is still characterised by

misjudgements. So we are considered by

many people as persons who always

keep creating new things with the help of

shapes and colours, always looking for

the spirit of the times linked with chal-

lenges in design and colour.

Is it really like this? Sometimes it is, but

we are not always the original creators.

Sometimes imaginative customers are the

source behind successful designs and in-

teriors. That means for us at Halbmond

developing ideas by clients, architects or

owners. We as designers want these vi-

sions to become reality and with the our

experience, expertise, the richness of our

company’s tradition and history, we liaise

to make this happen. We meet the needs

of our client in design, colour and quality

of carpet.

What you can create with these disci-

plines shows in the article about DOMKO,

a Bulgarian decorator. Let these encour-

age you to bring your ideas to life – we

will be pleased to be part of them!

Yours,

Andrea Schwericke,

Textile Designer

Some companies have a very individual character. This goes for

DOMKO LTD located in Sofi a, Bulgaria’s capital. Founded about

10 years ago, the interior decorator is today one of the most

renowned suppliers of wallpapers, textiles, fl oor coverings, and

much more in the Balkan state. The stores present the latest on

the market being in many cases a real trendsetter. On design-

ing the company’s head offi ce, the demands were high and

Halbmond managed to contribute a signifi cant part.

State of the art.A company philosophy takes shape

Simply upwards: at DOMKO

the carpet was also used as a

distinctive element for the wall

design.

Head Office DOMKO LTD, Sofia, Bulgaria ::

The special strengths of the Bulgarian Company lie in the implementation of concepts of interior decoration. Con-sequently, DOMKO created the design of their headquar-ters mainly on its own. The created ambience does not only represent the company’s culture, it literally creates an ambience to live it.

Already the outer appearance of the company building, where besides the company’s headquarter also a shop and a warehouse is located, is unlike others: it seems futuristic, artistic, and even transparent. The inside un-

compromisingly keeps the style. Nearly all areas are open plan, without the usual dividing walls. This creates width, and leaves space for ideas and, conversations, and com-municative exchanges and cooperation.

On furnishing the place, DOMKO required that the offices gave the impression of completeness. This was reached in particular by the carpet, which reflects the lightning effects of the lightning system designed by DOMKO, this bridging with floral motifs the inside and the outside ar-eas, or simply heading up the walls! All in all a fireworks of ideas that clearly show what is possible.

As far as the colouring is concerned it is was imperative that less was more, except for some minimal accents, the complete interior plays with the colours black and white, these being DOMKO’s corporate colours – clearly and simple, but also extraordinary and highly memorably.

It was built around 150 years ago directly above the landing stage, originally built as Hamburg’s seafarer’s home. In 1979 started the heyday of the glorious, neo-classical building as a comfortable hotel. In the follow-ing years the traditional house was at various times upgraded and recently modernised on schedule to meet with the 30th anniversary in 2009: the comprehensive refurbishment in-cluded 135 rooms, the Restaurant Port, and the public areas of the building “Seemann-sheim” (seafarer’s home). With its extraordi-nary location, its exceptional ambience and its excellent gastronomy the Hotel Hafen Hamburg is a famous meeting point for busi-ness people, families and tourists in the city of over a million inhabitants.

The hotel guests can choose between rooms in the classic hanseatic style or with mod-ern fl air with fl ood lit architecture. The rooms’ categories have maritime names: from the seaman’s, lieutenant’s, and commander’s class to the captain’s or admiral’s class, all classes are on board!

The carpet created by Halbmond emphasis the quiet and timeless elegance of the tra-ditional house. The designs present natural elements that consist of endless branches. The different elaborations of the theme reach diverse effects yet always perfectly in sym-pathy to the interior of the rooms, fl oors and event rooms – to the delight of the guests.

Exquisite design ideas are the characteristic of Lan-degger’s showroom. On about 1,000 m2 the whole world of fl oor coverings can be experienced. For the 20th an-niversary of Austria’s leading manufacturer in the fl oor coverings sector something special was obligatory. Halbmond had the right solution: a step by step intro based carpet was designed for the showroom’s event area. With its crystalline structure it stands on the one hand in a successful contrast to the puristic architecture and on the other hand it visualises the former purpose of the building as a sugar factory. The guests feel perfectly well in this ambience – no surprise!

If the leading company of the fl oor coverings

sector entrusts you to produce for them and

install the carpet for a special occasion, you

can take it as a compliment.

The Hotel Rival AB in Sweden’s capital Stockholm is something special. It is located in the heart of the in-

district “Södermalm”. It scores with entertainment à la carte – including an integrated theatre – and it offers

extraordinary design ideas. A real eye-catcher is the carpet design.

Optically cold and hard, but haptically

warm and soft: the carpet that seems to be

concrete experienced a positive feedback.

HTW Design Carpet could also make a contri-bution to this: for example at a special place in the spacious foyer, where a carpet is laid that shows the portrait of the 68’ icon Janis Joplin. The exceptional artist became famous for her black and white voice, and this is ex-actly what the colours of the design refl ect. With intention by the owner Benny Andersson that wanted a carpet with motif of Rock and Roll, the architect Karin Ahlgren found the contrasting portrait produced by the lens of the star photographer Elliot Landy. It shows Janis Joplin with her band Big Brother & the Holding Company at the opening of the New Yorker music theatre Fillmore East. With co-operation by BjK, DESIGN CARPETS AB, and REGAB AB who did a perfect work as installer are now Janis Joplin on stage and welcome the guests.

Design collection Hospitality 3Who designs individual carpets, knows the customers’ wishes and uses this expertise on the development of standard collections. Hospitality 03 follows this philosophy: the designs and respective borders show frequently demanded elements in modern and classic stampings, elaborated in many colour combinations. A special plus factor of the collection is the short delivery period. So, select your favourite design and choose the appropriate colour and ... don’t wait to start emptying out the furniture!

Within a dreamlike

time to your new car-

News on a personal note ::

In the segment of high quality carpets there is hardly a manufacturer, who doesn’t work with Aquafi l yarns. A guar-antor for this extraordinary position of the Italian yarn manufacturer is the continu-ous research work, which is carried out among other methods together with its clients – not least with Halbmond. Espe-cially as to the colouring in the printing process the company from Oelsnitz is a popular partner.

Aquafi l trusts hereby not only on the practical side, but also on the elaboration of new innovations in the market sense and technical expertise of Halbmond. An example for common development is the star technology – a new spinning method, which offers the end user many benefi ts: improved heat resistance, higher fastness to washing, and a more homogenous col-our picture. After all, your satisfaction as an end user is the highest credo of all our common research and development work.

An inspiring partner-ship between two market leaders.

Research und technology ::

On request Halbmond also

changes colours or elements.

After all, the company is a

specialist for individual fl oor

coverings.

Primary School Moltzow, Mecklenburg Vorpommern, Germany ::

The individually designed carpet specifi cally sets new highlights and creates with fresh colours a friendly, homelike ambience for a relaxing learning. The carpet solution, ex-ceptional for schools, also does justice to its sustainability in other respect: due to a warmer room temperature heating costs are saved. The occasion of the redevelopment was the conversion of a former administra-tion building into a full-time school that was implemented with a valuable support by the township.

The bell sounds – a liberating sound to run with rumble and

laughter out of the classroom. This has recently changed at

the primary school Moltzow: the children here also cheerfully

run to the schoolyard, but they do it on soft feet, on a noise-

absorbing carpet by Halbmond.

Short interview with headmaster Jörg Peters:

Halbmond: Why did you go for carpet and not for a usual hard fl oor?

Peters: The significantly improved room acoustics stimulates the concentration and the learning results. Also the playing on the fl oor is now more enjoyable for the children.

Halbmond: And why didn’t you opt for a standard carpet?

Peters: Our school wants to offer individual-ity to our children. The choice of the design refl ects this and creates a matching ambi-ence, and all this to an affordable price.

Halbmond: How are the reactions of par-ents and teachers regarding the new envi-ronment?

Peters: The visitors at the Open House Days were enthusiastic about it. There were happy for and also with the children.

Dots, lines and angles seem to vanish

in geometry and show what is taught in

the third class.
