PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Members; Another month has passed us by. It has been a fairly

quite one. We have made the award selections for the O.F.M.A. Spring Dinners. (I must admit I was disappointed, we only received two nominations from the membership.) If you have any interest in attending one or more of the dinners contact Ed Ebert at the G.O.S.A. office. The dates of said events are listed under Dates to Remember.

The other important issue I would like to remind you of is the proposed Games Rules Changes. The only way you can effect this issue is to write to the O.D.A. yourself. We have submitted a letter to the O.D.A. on how we stand as a board on this issue (found in the committee reports). Whether you agree with us or not, please take the time to write the O.D.A. and express your own opinion. Sincerely yours; Stan Connell, President G.O.S.A.

MINUTES FROM FEBRUARY 19, 1998 MEETING

President Stan Connell called the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance at 1 p.m. The roll call was made with trustees Clements, Stucky, Bill Prowant and Guinsler absent. The minutes of the January 22 meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report and bills were also read and approved. A lengthy discussion was held on the budget for the balance of the year.

Along with the discussion on the budget, the secretary asked for directions on when to cut off mailing of the newsletter to delinquent members. It was decided that, since dues are due and payable by January 15, the secretary is to discontinue the mailing with the March newsletter. The membership is to be notified in the March newsletter that, unless dues are paid the April newsletter will not be mailed to them. OLD BUSINESS A. Middleman Exdusives - Dave Gallapoo informed the

board that at the O.F.M.A. meeting on March 12 copies of the proposed bill will be distributed for discussion and it be moved forward from that time. It was announced that only one reply was received from the request for comments on the subject in the newsletter, it was against and anonymous. Jack Woods reported on his talks with N.I.C.A. on the subject.

B. Ohio Food Safety Council - Stan informed the board this council's focus is mainly on grocery stores. The Dept. of

Agriculture and Dept. of Health are trying to eliminate the need for more than one license for these businesses, much like what was accomplished for mobile licensing. At this time the council does not effect our industry. Stan or Jack will attend these meetings in case something comes up that would.

C. Membership Phone Survey - Ken Weber read a list of questions, which could be asked a sampling of the membership to get an idea of the feeling of the membership.

D. Seminars - Plans for future seminars for the O.F.M.A. & O.F.E.A. conventions were discussed, but nothing was decided. Ken Weber moved, Dean Otterbacher seconded, that G.O.S.A. spend up to $600 on a market survey to seek information on sponsoring a pay to attend seminar, the motion carried.

E. AIMS Show - Ken relayed a proposal from this show for a bus excursion on Wednesday of the Pumpkin Show to the AIMS Show for G.O.S.A. members. The proposal was not met with much enthusiasm.

NEW BUSINESS A. Tickets - Ken Weber moved, Dean Otterbacher seconded,

that fifteen tickets be distributed to each officer and trustee and that they be obligated to sell or buy five each and to be responsible for the rest. They are to report at the October meeting. Tom Linn distributed the tickets.

Recognition of Guests - Ken Risley and Kurt Otterbacher were commended.

Next meeting is March 19,1998. The meeting was adjourned in regular form and then went into executive session.

February 20, 1998 Mark List, Deputy Director Ohio Department of AgriCUlture Ride Safety Division 8995 E. Main St. Reynoldsburg, OH 43068 Subject: Proposed games rules changes, Dear Mark,

During the February 19 G.O.SA board meeting the proposed rule changes were once again discussed at length. The board has decided by an almost unanimous decision of the members present (only three absent) that we accept the proposal as written with the exception of one. '

Rather than do away with the build-up fashion of awarding prizes we would be very supportive of going back to the 3-step method we started with Instead of the 5-step we pr tl h . ,th t h esen y ave. It IS the general consensus of the board bU~'dt e problems we are ~eanng about did not exist when we first started to do

' -u,ps. We would also like to see more severe steps taken toward violations ofth IS ru e than have been taken in the past.

The G.O.SA board also discussed at great length the dangers and the problems that eXist With the straight dowel rod type canes that .f' ( t are given away at airs no to be confused with the larger crook type walking cane). We know that seve:~1 years ago there was an attempt made to put the straight canes on the prohibited pnze list and at that time it was decided ttlat the proper signage eX~lalnlng the proper use of this type of cane would solve the problem. It is our belief that the slgnage has not been effective in stopping the problem. We feel thiS IS an Issue that must be addressed in the proposal and the straight cane ~hOU/d be placed on the prohibited prize list with the other items that have been abeled as a nUisance or dang~rous type of prizes in the hands of adolescence.

Thank you for your time and consideration of all the issues we have presented. As always, the G.O.SA officers and trustees are glad to be of any assistance to you and the Department in any way we can. Please feel free to call upon us at any time. Yours truly, Jack R. Woods" Chairman, G.O.SA Games RUles Committee

Coca Cola recently introduced a new thirst-quenching citrus soda called "Citra" in Ohio. It is packaged in 12 oz. Cans and 20 oz. plastic bottles. It has a grapefruit flavor similar to "Squirt" and is a close comparison to the orange flavored "Surge" also distributed by Coca Cola. Citra gives consumers a "best of both worlds" citrus soft drink by combining the attributes of the heavy citrus and lemon-lime flavor segments: heavy citrus has low carbonation, sweeter citrus flavor, caffeine, and yellow or green color; whereas lemon-lime has strong carbonation, lemon-lime flavor, caffeine-free and clear. Citra has moderate carbonation, crisp citrus-grapefruit flavor, caffeine-free, low sodium and is a light color. The crisp citrus flavor of Citra is ultimately thirst-quenching I Advertising is directed towards 17-21 year olds.
