DRK 2007DRK 2007
• Annual Congress of the German Röntgen Society (DRG)– ca. 7,000 participants (3,600 radiologists)
• 16-19 May 2007 in Berlin• Venue: “Messe Berlin”
– same place as connectathon
– Industry expo: Hall 2.1 and 4.1
• Congress is in German language

DRK 2007: Demonstration PlansDRK 2007: Demonstration Plans
• Goal: small-scale demonstration of new integration profiles:– Portable Data for Imaging Integration (PDI)– Import Reconciliation Workflow (IRWF)– Teaching File Export (TCE)– Scheduled Workflow (SWF) as „background“
• Planned booth size 70-80 m²– We will have to restrict the number of
participating systems (about 12-14)
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop4
Current State of PreparationsCurrent State of Preparations
• We will try to acquire 70-80 m² booth space – currently only a 30m² booth is reserved for IHE
– larger booth not yet confirmed by DRG
• Demo participation fees will be similar to ESC conditions:– 2500 € for the registration of one system (estimated)
– 1500 € for each additional system (estimated)
• Participation still possible, talk to me!
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop5
Current State of RegistrationsCurrent State of Registrations
• Source: tentative vendor registrations • Total DRK demo registrations so far: 10 systems
– two systems possibly “unsuitable” for the demo: • RVC (XDS document source)
• Orthocrat TraumaCAD (EC actor, but we have no DX modality)
• Separate slides per Integration Profile:– Scheduled Workflow (SWF)
– Portable Data for Imaging Integration (PDI)
– Import Reconciliation Workflow (IRWF)
– Teaching File Export (TCE)
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop6
Scheduled Workflow (SWF)Scheduled Workflow (SWF)
• Patient in “Hospital A” receives imaging study (which is then written on PDI-CD and given to the patient.)
• Current registration – no ADT, no Order Placer (can be simulated by MESA RIS Mall)
– two Order Fillers (needed for Virtual Hospital A + B)
– three Image Managers, two Image Displays
– one Evidence Creator
– no Modality
• Without a modality, SWF does not make too much sense. In the worst case, we can use a simulator or pre-acquired data, but a real modality would be much better
– 12 modalities registered for connectathon: GE, Siemens, Toshiba, Kodak, IMS, Metaltronica, Nical, Etiam
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop7
Portable Data for Imaging Integration (PDI)Portable Data for Imaging Integration (PDI)
• Patient data acquired in Hospital A is written to CD (and later imported through IRWF in Hospital B).
• Current registration – three Portable Media Creators
• grouped with Image Managers (partially with Image Display)
– two Image Displays (i.e., CD readers; these might or might not be used as part of the demo scenarios)
– three Portable Media Importers (will not be used as part of the demo since we use IRWF instead)
– other PDI actors (Display, Print Composer) also not used.
• Demonstration possible
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop8
Import Reconciliation Workflow (IRWF)Import Reconciliation Workflow (IRWF)
• Patient from CD is imported into Hospital B, using a new Patient ID, accession number etc.
• Current registration – five Importers
• four use Worklist-based “scheduled import” option, one unknown
– one Order Filler
– two Image Managers
– one Patient Demographics Supplier (but no Importer with support for „unscheduled import“ based on PDQ)
• Demonstration possible
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop9
Teaching File Export (TCE)Teaching File Export (TCE)
• Selection of “interesting cases” for a teaching case archive, which are anonymised and then exported
• Current registration – two Export Selectors (seem to be identical systems)
– no Export Manager
– no Receiver (Uni Mainz might provide RSNA’s MIRC system)
• At the connectathon, four more Export Selectors, one Export Manager (Agfa) and one Receiver (Kodak) are registered
• Demo depends on availability of Export Manager and Receiver

• All vendors arrive with their equipment on Wednesday morning (May 16) and set up their systems.
• Wednesday 12:00 all systems ready to start testing
• Wednesday 12:00-20:00 test runs until all scenarios work– 18:00 DRK opening ceremony: free food and drink if we are ready!
• Thursday + Friday 09:00-18:00 exhibition open
• Saturday 09:00-13:30 exhibition open
• Saturday 14:00-22:00 booth dismantling (devices removed)– Vehicle access to Messe campus possible from 15:00

DRK 2007 Demo Schedule (3)DRK 2007 Demo Schedule (3)
• In general, we need an operator for each system on the booth to be available full-time– Don’t plan additional duties at your commercial booth, unless
there is another colleague who can operate “your” system.
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop17
Booth Logistics (1)Booth Logistics (1)
• Insurance + transport is vendors’ own responsibility.
• We need details regarding size, weight, voltage and power consumption for all demo systems (especially if non-standard, i.e. 380V or larger/heavier than standard PC)– Modality vendors, talk to me!
• From all systems that generate images or documents(modalities, evidence creators, report creators):– we need a collection of sample documents in order to assemble
these to clinically interesting and consistent demo scenarios.
– E-Mail, FTP, CD-ROM by mail - all is OK, but please:• send a large collection (helps us to select something that “fits”)
• provide the collection as soon as possible
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop18
Booth Logistics (2)Booth Logistics (2)
• As usual, we will repeat the Connect-a-thon network and system configuration at the DRK demo as far as possible– Identical host names, IP addresses, AE titles, port numbers
– Do not change these settings after connect-a-thon!
– We might need additional Universal Service IDs and DICOM MWL action item codes depending on image material.
– Update your configuration before shipping the system!!
• List of patient demographics will not be pre-defined (unless we end up with no modality)
• No Internet or congress network access!
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop19
• We will provide one poster for each system on the demo with– Vendor logo and product name
– IHE logo and slogan
– IHE actors shown/supported
– Photo of a similar system used in a clinical setting
• We need you to provide– High-res vendor logo
– Exact product name
– Photo

Poster PhotosPoster Photos
• The photos are important because they give the booth a little „hospital feeling“ over the „computer shop“ look.
• We will provide photos, but these may not show your product, but possibly something from a competitor.
• You may provide your own photos. 2 MPixel resolution should be OK
• Important: We need photos that look as if taken in a real hospital setting (no high-gloss advertisement photos)!
• One good and one bad example (which is which?)
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop21
• A handout for booth guests will be provided by IHE.
• We will probably also have an inlay in thecongress bag given to each participant
• In German language

Best Effort PrincipleBest Effort Principle
• We will not be able to show all capabilities of all systems– We try to show as much as possible
– More important is that the scenarios are interesting and meaningful for our visitors.
– Scenarios depend on the systems you have registered
• Actor imbalance– Typically we have too many actors of some types registered and
not enough actors of other types (e. g. more image managers than modalities)
– Will use different configurations (e.g. morning and afternoon)
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop23
Authenticity PrincipleAuthenticity Principle
• Systems should “feel” authentic for visitors. Therefore, – Notebook as “Web Viewer” (Image Display) is OK
– Notebook as PACS or Modality is probably not OK
• No demonstrations on notebook LCDs (size, viewing angle)– If using a notebook, put notebook under table
and connect monitor and keyboard.
2007-02-09 Participant Workshop24
IHE Booths are Non-CommercialIHE Booths are Non-Commercial
• Goal of the IHE demonstration is to communicate the idea of IHE, i. e.– “Dear customer, requesting IHE functionality
as part of your RFPs will make your life easier.”
• We don’t promote the individual systems shown on the booth, we don’t compare which system is “better” – On the IHE booth we are all collegues and good friends.
Competition can be seen in the commercial exhibition areas.
– Please no commercial advertising material on the IHE booth.
– Please no commercial talks to potential customers. If they are interested in your product, please direct them to your commercial booth.
