Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time – November 5 de Noviembre 2017– Trigésimo primer Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

PRACTICING AND LIVING THE FAITH A writer would present the world in which we live in like the “The City of Hypocrisy”. In this city there ex-ists: the street of Falsehoods; the plaza of Appearances; the avenue of Simulations; discotheque of “the Phari-sees”; the bar of “False Money”; the road of Lies; the

avenue of “Deceit”. Many other places where perhaps we feel comfortable; like in our own home”.

Today the Gospel invites us to be sincere. It prohibits us from being like the Pharisees of the times of Jesus: much to say but little testimony.

Frequently like parents, boyfriends and girlfriends, public employees, workers or supervisors, we cannot exhibit a life with a seal of authenticity. Even though in meetings we talk a lot about our clean hands, our honesty, our fairness, within us things do not run as well as it seems.

But there is a hypocrisy that is worse, because it separates us from God’s help. It’s the one that entrusts us to baptize our own sins with decent names. When we do not recognize our faults, we wrap them up in paper made of fantasy. This is to whitewash the graves that continue within full of rot. We call pride dignity, deceit we call liveliness and efficiency, injus-tice we call prudence. On the other hand no one will accept adultery. It will be said, he just had an adventure, as if we are attempting to avoid that God should know. However the first condition for God to forgive us is to recognize with sincerity that we are sinners.

The Gospel also tells us that we should not seek as the Phari-sees did the first place in the church, in the market place, in the university, in diversions, in our jobs, in our ministries, in social service. It does not mean that we shouldn’t be encour-aged to excel but rather not to overshadow others by present-ing ourselves as the most important, the most intelligent or the most knowledgeable.

You can mix so much of the Pharisaical sanctimoniousness in our behavior that it becomes urgent to review our own lives at every step and this takes valor. But Our Lord is always ready to help us. Because of sincerity, our lives would be cleaner and happier. We walk through our city and our church, with a very long latter changing the nomenclatures of this earth that at one time learned how to lie. We would then have the streets of Truth, the avenue of Authenticity, the road of Friendship, the plaza of Veracity (truthfulness), the “Bar of Yes and No”. And this would be the city that would be named, whatever you would want. Let’s not allow that ego-centrism of vanity define us. Let us be sincere and authentic just like our Lord and Teacher. PRACTICAR Y VIVIR LA FE Un escritor presentaba el mundo en que vivimos, co-mo la "Ciudad de la Hipocresía":" Existe allí la calle de la Falsedad, la plaza de la Apariencia, la avenida de la Simulación, la discoteca de "los Fariseos", el bar de "la Falsa Moneda", el camino de la Mentira, la avenida del "Engaño"… Muchos sitios más donde quizá nos sentimos cómodos. Como en la propia casa"..."

Hoy el Evangelio nos invita a la sinceridad. Nos prohíbe pa-recernos a los fariseos del tiempo de Jesús: muchas palabras y poco testimonio.

Frecuentemente como padres de familia, novios, empleados públicos, obreros o patronos, no podemos exhibir una vida con sello de autenticidad. Aunque en las reuniones hablemos mucho de manos limpias, de la honestidad, de equidad, en nuestro interior las cosas no caminan tan bien como parece.

Pero hay otra hipocresía peor, porque nos separa de la ayuda de Dios. Es aquella que se encarga de bautizar los propios pecados con nombres decentes. Al no reconocer nuestras fallas, las envolvemos con papel de fantasía. Esto si es blan-quear los sepulcros, que continúan por dentro llenos de po-dredumbre. Al orgullo lo nombramos dignidad, al engaño le decimos viveza, a la injusticia la llamamos prudencia. Por otra parte nadie aceptara haber cometido un adulterio. Sola-mente ha tenido una aventura... Como si tratáramos de evitar que Dios se entere. Sin embargo la primera condición para que Él nos perdone, es reconocer con sinceridad que somos pecadores.

También nos dice el Evangelio que no debemos buscar como los fariseos los primeros lugares en el templo, el mercado, en la universidad, en las diversiones, en el trabajo, en los minis-terios, en el servicio social. No quiere decir que no tengamos el ánimo de superación pero si de no opacar a los demás, presentándonos siempre como los más importantes, los más inteligente o los sabelotodo.

Se puede mezclar tanto el fariseísmo en nuestra conducta que urge revisar la propia vida a cada paso y esto requiere valen-tía. Pero el Señor esta pronto para ayudarnos. Por la sinceri-dad, seria nuestra vida más limpia y feliz. Caminaremos por nuestra ciudad y nuestra iglesia, con una escalera muy larga cambiando las nomenclaturas de esta tierra que un día aprendió a mentir. Tendr íamos entonces las calle de la Verdad, la avenida de la Autenticidad, el camino de la Amistad, la plaza de la Veracidad, el "Bar de Si y del No"... Y esta es la ciudad que se llamaría... como tú quisie-ras. No dejemos que el egoísmo la vanagloria nos caracteri-ce. Seamos sinceros y auténticos cono Jesús nuestro Maestro y Señor. Tú decides! Rev. FINA CARIDAD!

El día amanece frio. Felipe entra en una cafetería y pide un café con leche. Junto a él se encuentra una anciana que acaba de pedir un café con leche y una tostada. Felipe observa que su vecina saborea el desayuno con fascinación. Cuando la señora pregunta que debe? El mesero le dice: un euro con noventa, la señora busca en su bolso y no completa, se siente avergonzada. Felipe se acerca y le dice, señora se le a caído esta moneda de dos euros y se la entrega. Ha-cer el bien sin buscar aplauso. (Mateo 6,3)

FINE CHARITY!

The morning is cold. Felipe enters a cafeteria and orders a coffee with milk. Next to him is an old woman who has just ordered a coffee with milk and toast. Felipe ob-serves that his neighbor savors breakfast with fascination. When the lady asks what she owes the waiter says: one euro with ninety, the lady looks in her purse and does not have enough, she feels ashamed. Felipe approaches and tells her, ma'am, you dropped these two-euro coins and gives it to her. Do good without seeking applause. (Matthew 6,3)
