To our Brothers and Sisters. We wish to thank all who supported our latest fundraising Carnitas Dinner Event. This event was to help raise funds for repairs to St Benedict’s Hall. To that end, we sold 362 ckets! This is our most successful event to date. A er all the bills were paid the Knights of Columbus Council 1792 was proud to present Fr Steven with a check for $2,500.00 to help with the repairs. We wish to thank David Vigara the “Carnitas Guy” for the delicious food. Taco Bell on Tres Pinos Rd provided the “sporks” that we were passing out with the meals. Please give them your business to show your appreci-a on in suppor ng our endeavor. As usual, we had quite a few people who forgot to come pickup their meals. We will work harder to remind everyone the week before. The le overs went to a very worthy cause. We contacted “My Father’s House” and they came and picked them up. It turned out to be a blessing. Their cook was not going to be there that Saturday. So, they were able to provide 35 meals for the homeless in our community. Selected excerpts from book “Jesus our Eucharis c Love”

They were aware of the real presence

Eucharis c wonders are recorded in the lives of St. Rose of Lima, Bl. Angela of Foligno, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Philip Neri, St. Francis Borgia, St. Joseph of Cuper no, and many other saints, who sensibly per-ceived the Real Presence of Jesus in the tabernacle and in the consecrated Hosts, seeing Jesus with their own eyes or enjoying His indescribable fragrance. Well known is the episode in the life of St. Anthony of Padua when he once proved the Real Presence to an unbeliever by showing him a hungry mule kneeling before a monstrance containing the Blessed Sacra-ment, in preference to devouring the basket of oats placed beside the monstrance. Let us recall what happened to St. Catherine of Si-ena. One day, a priest who did not believe in the spe-cial gi s of the Saint responded to a request to bring Holy Communion to St. Catherine when she was sick, but with a host that was not consecrated. At the en-trance of the priest, the Saint did not make a move, as she was accustomed to do, in order to adore the Eucharis c Jesus, but instead, fixed her eyes on the priest and reproved him openly for the decep on and for the sin of idolatry in which he wanted her to fall. The same thing happened to Bl. Anna Maria Taigi who, when receiving Holy Communion, was inten-

onally given an unconsecrated host. The holy wom-an instantly realized the decep on and experienced a never-ending sadness, which she confided to her con-fessor. Equally remarkable was an episode in the life of St. Alphonsus Maria de’ Liguori when he received Holy Communion in his sickbed. One morning, as soon as he had received the host, he sighed aloud with tears, “What have you done? You have brought me a host without Jesus—an unconsecrated host!” An inves ga-

on was undertaken and it was learned that the priest who had celebrated Mass that morning had been so distracted that he had le out everything from the Memento for the Living to the Memento for the Dead in the Roman Canon, and so had completely omi ed the consecra on of the bread and wine. The Saint had detected the absence of Our Lord from the

unconsecrated host! Many other episodes taken from the lives of the saints could be men oned. For instance, cases of ex-orcism could be recounted where obsessed persons were delivered from the demon by means of the Eu-charist. So, too, one might list those great manifesta-

ons of faith and love that are the eucharis c con-gresses and the celebrated eucharis c shrines (such as those at Turin, Lanciano, Siena, Orvieto, and the shrine of St. Peter of Pa erno), shrines which to the very present have preserved the tes monials to astonishing events of the past in confirma on of the Real Presence. The Sanctuary of Lanciano (in Abruzzi, Italy), in par cular, is unique of its kind among the world’s eu-charis c sanctuaries and deserves to be be er known throughout the en re world. There the marvelous presence of a Host transformed into live Flesh and preserved in this condi on for many centuries can be contemplated. It is a visible miracle which amazes and moves hearts.

“Mystery of faith” But outweighing all these events and tes monials, is the faith by which the truth of the Real Presence is assured and on which we must base our unwavering certainty that it is so. “Jesus is the Truth” (Jn. 14:6), and He has le us the Eucharist as a mystery of faith for us to believe with our whole mind and our whole heart. Eran conscientes de la presencia real

Las maravillas eucarís cas se registran en la vida de Santa Rosa de Lima, Bl. Ángela de Foligno, Santa Catalina de Siena, San Felipe Neri, San Francisco Bor-gia, San José de Cuper no y muchos otros santos, que percibieron sensatamente la Presencia Real de Jesús en el tabernáculo y en las Hos as consagradas, al ver a Jesús con sus propios ojos o disfrutando de su indescrip ble fragancia. Bien conocido es el episodio en la vida de San An-tonio de Padua, cuando una vez demostró la Presen-cia Real a un incrédulo mostrándole una mula ham-brienta arrodillada ante una custodia que con ene el San simo Sacramento, en lugar de devorar la cesta de avena colocada al lado del custodia. Recordemos lo que le sucedió a Santa Catalina de Siena. Un día, un sacerdote que no creía en los dones especiales de la Santa respondió a una solicitud de llevar la Sagrada Comunión a Santa Catalina cuando estaba enferma, pero con un anfitrión que no estaba consagrado. A la entrada del sacerdote, la Santa no hizo ningún movimiento, como solía hacerlo, para adorar al Jesús Eucarís co, sino que fijó sus ojos en el sacerdote y lo reprochó abiertamente por el engaño y el pecado. de idolatría en la que él quería que ella cayera. Cuando el Doctor An-gélico, Santo Tomás de Aquino, fue traído al Santo Via cum, se levantó de las cenizas donde lo habían acostado, se arrodilló y dijo: "Incluso si exis era una luz mil veces más brillante que la luz de la fe, no creería con mayor certeza que Aquel a quien estoy a punto de recibir es el Hijo del Dios eterno ". Hollister Walk for life Our church is par cipa ng in the Hollister Pregnan-cy Center’s Walk for Life on Saturday, October 12th. By simply walking and ge ng sponsorship you can raise funds that will go to support the ministry of Hollister Pregnancy Center. The day will begin with everyone arriving at the Hollister Pregnancy Center at 8:00 a.m. The actual walk will begin shortly there-a er. Coffee, juice, water & refreshments will be provided.
