Background
• IGADD established in 1986 in response to droughts, food insecurity and environmental degradation with a mandate to mitigate drought effects and combat desertification
• IGAD revitalized in 1996 and given new mandate and Vision ( IGAD to be the premier regional economic community for achieving peace and sustainable development.)
• New Mission is to assist IGAD Member States achieve regional integration through closer cooperation in the areas of:-

• In its priority areas IGAD is well placed and has comparative advantages in various aspects of programme and policy formulation and continued to:
• Organise and facilitate meetings of Heads of States and other high level topical discussions on policy and other issues of common interest;
• Initiate, facilitate and participate a fora for lobbying, advocacy and policy development and harmonization;
