    Course OverviewEstablished for over 30 years as THE qualification for the fixed income market, the IFID programme puts emphasis

    on developing practical skills for trading, investment and risk management. This is a demanding, examined course

    aimed at developing a broad and in-depth knowledge of the key fixed income instruments, derivatives and markets.

    As an intermediate qualification, the IFID certificate syllabus requires that candidates should already have familiarity

    with the topics listed below (note that background reading is provided for those who need to review the topics):

    I found the IFID Certificate extremely relevant and very satisfying and one of the only courses available

    with such a market orientation focus.

    The IFID is available in two formats:

    Classroom-based:1 week course in April (Europe) and October (Europe). This

    course is conducted at a hotel, but is non-residential, so delegates are responsible

    for their own accommodation costs. Lunches, coffee breaks and course

    binders/handouts areincluded in the course fee.

    Distance Learning:Total flexibility as candidates work in their own time

    (subject to a six month exam deadline)

    Both formats entitle registered candidates to access the online Campus

    for course preparation. Candidates will be awarded the IFID Certificate upon

    successful completion of the IFID examination, which is jointly granted by ICMA

    and the University of Reading.

    Target Audience

    The programme is designed for people in an analytical or trading role

    at either a bank or investment management firm. It has also become popular

    with companies that provide services to the financial markets such as consultants,

    financial IT service companies, exchanges and central securities depositories.

    The course is open to ICMA members and non-members.

    Programme Recognition

    The IFID is included on the UKs Financial Skills Partnership (FSP) qualificationslist for Advising on securities in the wholesale market place and Advising on

    derivatives in the wholesale market place.

    IFID candidates also qualify for 30 credit hours under the guidelines of the CFA

    Institutes Continuing Education Programme.

    Course Content and Format

    Having participated in different types of executive education, it's fair to say that the IFID is by far the best

    value-cost you can get these days, an absolute must in the Fixed Income business

    David Oakes:trained as an economist at the London School of Economics and

    was lecturer in finance at the University of Exeter and Warwick Business School

    before joining the ICMA Centre at the University of Reading as Director of

    Academic and Professional Education in 1998. He co-ordinated ICMA Executive

    Education programmes from 1994-2004. David left the Centre in 2004 to set up

    Dauphin Financial Training Inc., which delivers advanced financial markets training

    to investment banking clients in New York and around the world.

    Gail Rolland:has ten years of fixed income experience in London and New York in

    the areas of sales and trading and new product structuring. Since the mid-1990s

    she has worked with ICMA Executive Education in addition to running her own

    financial markets training firm and has particular expertise in advising the

    insurance industry on capital market investment strategies. Gail is also the

    online tutor for the IFID Certificate Programme.

    Neil Schofield:Neil is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Reading and is a

    freelance training consultant. From 2001 to 2008, he was global head of financial

    markets training at Barclays Capital in London. He was responsible for the design

    and delivery of a large number of seminars in a variety of different asset classes to

    many different audiences. Previous to that he was a director at Chisholm Roth

    training in London and has also held positions at Chase Manhattan Bank as well as

    Security Pacific Hoare Govett (now trading as Bank of America). Neil has over 20

    years of experience in financial markets. In 2008, he published his first book

    Commodity Derivatives and his second text Trading the Fixed Income, Inflation

    and Credit Markets was published in 2011. He is currently co-authoring a book on

    Inflation entitled Trading Inflation: Markets, instruments and strategies, which is

    due for publication in 2013.

    The cost is GBP 3,000 for ICMA members and GBP 3,900 for non-members

    with further discounts as follows:

    2 to 4 candidates 5% discount each*

    5 to 9 candidates 10% discount each*

    10+ candidates 15% discount each*

    The ICMA Centre, University of Reading has an international reputation for providing

    quality teaching programmes tailored to the capital markets industry. Established in

    1991 with funding provided by the International Capital Market Association (ICMA),

    the Centre is housed in a purpose-built modernist building with state-of-the-art

    facilities including two dealing rooms. In 2008, ICMA enabled an expansion

    to the building that now includes an additional 50 seat dealing room, 170 seat

    lecture theatre as well as new seminar rooms and a dedicated research area.

    ICMA Centre

    The International Capital Market Association (ICMA) is a unique organisation

    and an influential voice for the global capital market. It represents a broad range

    professional advisers. ICMAs market conventions and standards have been the

    ICMA Executive EducationFor many years ICMA Exective Education has made investment in executive

    education for the financial markets a priority. Its courses are administered and

    overseen by the ICMA Centre at Henley Business School, University of Reading.

    Five Certificate Programmes are offered:

    Financial Markets Foundation Course (FMFC)
