It is my pleasure to present the Europe 2015 Report for IFEA.

The information from this Europe report was requested via email on the 24th of August 2015.

I had information returned from the following Europe countries: France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, UK and Turkey.

Please, I ask all the country representatives of Europe, that for the future months, to send me all the reports, news, or future meetings of their societies.

We%had%an%organizational%intense%period%of%our%society%are%now%even%able%to%respond%in%a%more%organized%fashion%to%requests%from%our%European%and%global%counterparts.%

We%are%not%a%large%society%but%there%has%been%a%growing%interest%in%Endodontics,%among%the%professionals%of%Dental%Medicine%in%Portugal.%

We%organize%an%annual%meeting%where%we%try%to%bring%an%international%lecturer%and%where%he%also%took%the%opportunity%to%make%presentations%by%national%professionals.%%

We%would%be%interested%in%collaborating%on%projects%or%lines%of%action%defined%by%European%or%global%societies%and%to%invite%prominent%personalities%in%the%current%Endodontics,%for%our%meetings.%

Report of the German Society of Endodontology and Dental Traumatology (DGET)

The DGET actually represents 1.680 members running several activities:

EDUCATION:

The main activities are our meetings of which we have two per year.

ANNUAL CONGRESS - Our annual congress which takes place in October / November over

three days with usually about 500 attendees and speakers from all over the world containing

scientific lectures, short lectures, poster presentations, workshops, hands-on-courses and an

industry-exhibition. Not to forget a very nice get together evening on Friday every time. In

2014 the meeting took place in Hamburg and in 2015 it will take place in Munich from 12th-

14th November.

SPRING ACADEMY - Additionally we run a spring academy per year which is hosted at an

University every time. This meeting is restricted to members only and just up to 120

attendees are accepted. The spring meeting consists of workshops only, mostly three in

parallel. Most of them are hold by members. Usually more than 80 working places equipped

with microscopes are provided. For sure there is a get together evening also. Last meeting

was in March 2015 at the University of Dresden. The next spring academy will take place at

the University of Regenburg at February the 26th/27th. 2016.

MEMBER SUMMIT - We also organize a so called Member Summit (new since 2015): One

day with table clinics in groups of ten people. Speakers which inform about industry-

innovations in 45 minutes-discussion so that the groups can rotate and attendees can

compare instruments, products, etc.

EDUCATION FOR TEACHERS – An annual meeting for lecturers and teachers of Universities

creating national standards in endodontic student education.

STUDY GROUPS – The DGET is running 19 study groups throughout Germany, each meeting

4-6 times per year for case discussion, literature discussion and individual educational

courses.

CURRICULA – The DGET offers 2 – 3 modular educational programs per year each with a

capacity of 20 attendees. They consist of 9 modules of 2 days each and a final exam to

become a certified member.

SUPPORT OF RESEARCH AND DISTRIBUTION OF SCIENTIFIC RESULTS

DISSERTATION AWARD – Young members get the chance to present their thesis at the

annual congress. The best one will be awarded with € 1.000.

PUBLICATION AWARD – to honor the scientific work of their members the best scientific publication is awarded with € 2.000 annually.

CONGRESS AWARD – Within the short lectures and the poster presentatons the best presentations in the field of „clinical case“ and „scientific presentation“ receive the Meeting Award valued with € 2.000.

ESE-TRAVEL-BONIFICATION – Members who present a short lecture or a poster at the ESE-Meeting can apply for a travel bonification.

SCIENCE FUND – Experimental or clinical research projects in the field of Endodontology and Dental Traumatology can be supported out of a fund of € 20.000.

QUALIFICATION

2014 – 45 certified members qualified, 3 DGET-specialists qualified

2015 – Applications for qualification at the annual meeting in November: 60 for certified membership, 3 for the DGET-specialist

MEMBER-INFORMATION

DGET-INTERN – A little journal for members with important news from inside our society and the field of Endodontology as well as professional policies including a marketrplace for job offers/job applications/sales, issued 2x/year.

FURTHER NEW ACTIVITIES PLANNED IN 2016

Honorary Secretary’s Report from the British Endodontic Society for IFEA 2015 The British Endodontic Society has had a very successful year under the guidance and leadership of Murray Saunders as President. As my predecessor Mike Waplington mentioned last year, the constitutional aims of the society are to “promote and advance endodontology and to ensure that the dental and general health of the nation is both maintained and improved”. During the last year we have been working in collaboration with the external consultants who have helped us to sharpen our focus regarding our relationship with dentists and patients with reference to endodontic care in the UK. The difficulties that exist regarding endodontic provision within the public sector in the UK have been well defined. Information will be used constructively to lobby decision makers, commissioners and providers of endodontic care, particularly with the imminent new NHS contract in mind. The Spring Scientific Meeting last year attracted Professor Anil Kishen from the University of Toronto and a large attendance of 223 delegates here at the Royal Institute of Civil Engineers enjoyed high quality presentations on the theme of The Biomechanics of Root Canal Treatment. He addressed the mechanisms and risk factors for fracture predilection in endodontically treated teeth. He had a refreshingly positive way of concluding each section of his lectures with a summary of the information just covered, a very clever way to ensure your audience ‘stays with you’! ‘Are you with me?’ was his mantra! Paula Ng gave a detailed account of tooth survival following root canal treatment. As ever, her delivery and detailed attention to evidence based outcomes was exemplary. The Regional Meeting, held in November at the Midland Hotel in Manchester and was attended by a record number of 252 delegates. The theme for the two days was ‘Getting back to our Roots’. There were parallel sessions with three Masterclasses, plus four repeating table clinics on the Friday morning before an afternoon with Professor Kishor Gulabivala who addressed Diagnostic Dilemmas and Mysteries in Endodontics. Saturday was hosted by Pierre Machtou and Alan Gluskin who covered Dynamic Irrigation, Minimally Invasive Endodontics, Accessing locating and negotiating root canal systems, and concluded with some very salutory tales and illustrations of neurological mishaps. The prizes given at the regional meeting continues to reflect the Societies desire to make awards that foster and encourage excellence and endeavour within research and study within endodontics. During the year, the Council was approached by Serpil Djemal of King’s College who is heading a team who have developed a new forum within the dentistry, Dental Trauma UK. The objective of this initiative is to enable patients who have sustained acute traumatic dental injuries to have immediate access to care, and to enable dentists to avail themselves of current knowledge and research within this field. The BES is a current sponsor of this Society.

The BES has continued to support education during the year holding 5 roadshows with complimentary attendance in London, Edinburgh, Inverness, Manchester and Warrington. These have been provided to encourage membership as well as to educate and to promote high quality endodontic care. The Pan Dental meeting in Birmingham November 11th and 12th 2016 is well defined and there will be three parallel sessions on the first day run by the BSP, the BES and the BSRD and BSSPD and a main session on the Saturday covering surgery. One exciting aspect is the filming in 3D of clinical surgery on the saturday which will be shown in 3D with the glasses in the lecture theatre. Speakers on behalf of the BES include Serpil Djermal, Ove Peters, Anthony Summerwill, Thomas von Arx and Sanjeeve Bhanderi. The work is there to do whether it be in education or in service to our patients as clinicians. SPAIN REPORT FOR IFEA 2015

The Spanish Association of Endodontics is a scientific society founded in 1978.

AEDE members have, since 1980 an annual congress of the Association that aims to be a source of knowledge and meeting point for professionals.

Among the speakers who each year come to the congress of the Association are renowned experts both nationally and globally in the field of Endodontics.In the congress we also encourage the participation of members of the Association thanks to the different formats of oral presentations, posters or clinical cases.The congresses have, besides the intensive scientific program, a very attractive social program, including a gala dinner with the Congress is closed and in which the Association gives awards.

The XXXV Congress of the Spanish Association of Endodontics (AEDE) was held in October 30 to November 1 in Granada (Spain).

This year AEDE co-host with ESE, the ESE congress in Barcelona.

Biennially (alternating with a symposium), the Spanish Association of Endodontics also organised a course in Madrid during winter, which is reserved exclusively for its members. An internationally renowned speaker in the field of Endodontics is invited by AEDE to talk about our specialty for a full day or two days. This year, the course It was led by Dr. Hagay Shemesh and was entitled "Controversies in contemporary endodontics".

AEDE has two journals.

A quarterly journal called “Endodoncia” which is the organ of the Spanish Association of Endodontics responsible for disseminating the study of the root canal in all its aspects. Both the general dentist or Endodontist may find here all the advances in new techniques. We publish selected articles deemed of interest from other publications, case reports and original articles.

An a magazine called “AEDE Informa” which provides information and publicises the activities of the Spanish Association of Endodontics.
