IFCC WorldLab 2017• Will attract about 2500 delegates
• First time that an IFCC World Congress will be held in Africa
• Speakers identified for Keynote lecture and 3 plenary sessions
• Preference given to African speakers who are recognised internationally
A rich academic program
• Symposia: Have received proposals for 35 symposia – only 24 will be selected (all self sponsored)
• Educational Workshops: Confirmation of 6 educational workshops of which 2 are sponsored by industry
• 5 pre congress satellite meetings : POCT, Diabetes biomarker, Scientific Writing Skills, ICPLM and Accreditation
• 10 Meet the expert breakfast sessions
• 3 Lunch symposia
• Selected oral presentations from young investigators from developing nations
• Poster awards for each day

Challenges• Poor response from industry so far
• So far only bronze and silver sponsorships received
• Challenging for industry to sponsor 2 major conferences 3 months apart in one year
• Unaffordable registration fees for majority of African delegates

• Opening Cocktail to be partly sponsored by City of Durban
• Partial sponsorship by industry for satellite meetings
• SAACB to raise funds through 3 mini workshops
• Sponsorship application to Stellenbosch University, National Research Foundation, Medical Research Council student delegates and young investigators
• Point of Research Network for Africa to partner with TF –POCT
• IFCC to offer discounted packages to about 150 delegates who satisfy the criteria
