If you enjoy creativity and love music, there are many opportunities for you to consider.
Music could be your career choice but it could also be a paid hobby which supplements your main wage.
However, music is not just about performing in front of an audience, there are fantastic opportunities for people with lots of different skills, including practical,
creative and administrative skills.

Music therapy can be used to help people with a range of conditions including learning disabilities, neurological disorders, life-limiting illness, brain injury, cerebral palsy, mental health issues, trauma, stroke and dementia. Music Therapy uses music to break down barriers caused by illness or disability.
At first, some DJs gain experience by doing voluntary work. Hours can be long and involve evenings and weekends.You may need to buy your own equipment and provide your own transport.You may also need a day job to make ends meet. ➢ Mobile DJ – weddings, parties, etc.➢ Radio DJ➢ Club DJ

Arts Administrator
Plan and organise activities and projects in the arts sector.Could include festivals – Celtic Connections, Aberdeen International Youth Festival, Edinburgh Fringe -
concerts, tours, productions.Can also be employed in galleries, museums, theatres, concert halls, arts centres etc.
Community Arts Worker
Help community groups develop skills in the arts such as music, dance, theatre, art, etc. with the aim of improving the quality of life and helping to develop communities.
Music Journalist
Can be employed by print, online and media outlets.Many are freelance writers who make money by reviewing albums andconcerts for music publications or record labels.
A & R – Artists and Repertoire
Liaises between the artist and the record label. 3 mains tasks:➢ Finding talent➢ Overseeing the recording process➢ Assisting with marketing and promotion.

Employed by the record label, your job is to generally promote and exploit the artist – get them known!
