Extracts from A. vera arewidely used in the cosmetics and alternative medicine industries, being marketed asvariously having rejuvenating, healing or soothing properties. Aloe vera is a stemless or veryshort-stemmed succulent plant growing to 60 100 cm (24 39 in) tall, spreading by offsets . The leaves are thick and fleshy, green to grey-green, with some varieties showing whiteflecks on the upper and lower stem surfaces .[9] The margin of the leaf is serrated and hassmall white teeth. The flowers are produced in summer on a spike up to 90 cm (35 in) tall,each flower being pendulous, with a yellow tubular corolla 2 3 cm (0.8 1.2 in) long .[9][10] Like other Aloe species, Aloe vera forms arbuscular mycorrhiza , a symbiosis that allows theplant better access to mineral nutrients in soil .[11]

    TONGKAT ALI

    Eurycoma longifolia (commonly called tongkat ali or pasak bumi ) is a flowering plant in thefamily Simaroubaceae , native to Indonesia , Malaysia , and, to a lesser extent, Thailand , Vietnam , and Laos . It is also known under the names penawar pahit , penawar bias , bedaramerah , bedara putih , lempedu pahit , payong ali , tongkat baginda , muntah bumi , petalabumi (all the above Malay); bidara laut (Indonesian); babi kurus (Javanese); cay ba binh (Vietnamese) and tho nan (Laotian). Eurycoma longifolia is a small, evergreen tree growingto 15 m (49 ft) tall with spirally arranged, pinnate leaves 20 40 cm (8 16 inches) long with13 41 leaflets. The flowers are dioecious , with male and female flowers on different trees;they are produced in large panicles , each flower with 5 6 very small petals . The fruit isgreen ripening dark red, 1 2 cm long and 0.5 1 cm broad. It has become popular for itstestosterone -enhancing properties. Because of that, it is included in certain herbal

    scientific studies performed by Malaysian Universities, including University Science Malaysia(USM) have confirmed its effects on enhancing sexual characteristics in animalmodels.Currently, it is being researched for its possibilities as an anti-cancer supplement.

    In Southeast Asia it is used as a post partum medication, as well as for its antimalarial,antipyretic, antiulcer, cytotoxic and aphrodisiac properties.

    PEGAGA

    The Pegaga or Centella asiatica , is a small, herbaceous , annual plant of the familyMackinlayaceae or subfamily Mackinlayoideae of family Apiaceae, and is native to India , SriLanka , northern Australia , Indonesia , Iran , Malaysia , Melanesia , Papua New Guinea , andother parts of Asia. It is used as a medicinal herb in Ayurvedic medicine , traditional Africanmedicine , and traditional Chinese medicine . Botanical synonyms include Hydrocotyleasiatica L. and Trisanthus cochinchinensis (Lour. ) The stems are slender, creeping stolons , green to reddish-green in color, connecting plants to each other. It has long-stalked, green,reniform leaves with rounded apices which have smooth texture with palmately nettedveins. The leaves are borne on pericladial petioles, around 2 cm. The rootstock consists of rhizomes , growing vertically down. They are creamish in color and covered with root hairs.

    The flowers are pinkish to red in color, born in small, rounded bunches (umbels) near thesurface of the soil. Each flower is partly enclosed in two green bracts. The hermaphroditeflowers are minute in size (less than 3 mm), with 5-6 corolla lobes per flower. Each flowerbears five stamens and two styles . The fruit are densely reticulate, distinguishing it fromspecies of Hydrocotyle which have smooth, ribbed or warty fruit. The outstandingimportance of the usage of this plant in the tradition medicine of India is implicated by itsIndian name "Brahmi" which means 'bringing knowledge to the supreme reality" and it haslong been used for its medicinal properties and as and aid to meditation. It is recomendedby the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the most important medicinal plantspecies to be conserved and cultivated. In Malaysia, although it has been used by ourtraditional healers in their herbal remedies, but its popularity is confined more as traditionalvegetable or 'ulam' especially among the Malay communities rather than a medicinal plant.
