MISSION AND VISION
MISSION Foster technology innovation and engineering excellence
VISION Create world class engineers by empowering students with industry resources and guidance to innovate for the betterment for humanity. IEEE should be the default platform for industry-academia interaction
GAP IN THE SYSTEM
No platform for industry-academia interaction– Presently, industries are reaching out only to some of
the top institutes Each industry reaching out separately- no common
platform of interaction Large swathe of talent in lower tier colleges miss
out The interaction here is not sustainable
Students need industry guidance to understand engineering challenges faced by humanity– Innovation has highest value if it has practical
application rather than being a theoretical solution– Must be aware of current and future research areas,
technology trends
GAP IN THE SYSTEM
Students need an industry mentor and a sustainable interaction– This will help shape their careers by making the right
choices
– This will help innovations receive the right direction and hence come to fruition
SO HOW TO FILL THE GAP?
Enter GINI Industry Relations
Global Integrated Network of IEEE (GINI) is an R10 SAC initiative– Network all SBs in a Section and region– Successful implementation in 4 Sections in India
GINI IR will help industries to reach out to academia through the IEEE network:– GINI volunteers bring together students from SBs in
the zone under one roof– Knowledge dissemination to a wide audience
INDUSTRY RELATIONS – HOW IT WORKS
Industry experts disseminate knowledge, identify talented students, mentor themStudents get to interact with experts from different domains and different verticalsWin – Win situationWin for Industry– Hone skills of the students, make them better
equipped to face industry challenges– With minimum resources, can make maximum
impact- due to the wide network of IEEEWin for academia– Students get the invaluable opportunity to interact
with and learn from industry experts
GOALS
Enthuse students about technologyEducate students about various technology aspects, keep them updated on current technology trends Provide a platform for students to interact with industry experts- share knowledge, share ideasStudents execute projects mentored by industry experts- help them get the right inputs from industry
PRESENT STATUS OF THE INITIATIVE
• MICROSOFT– Fortnightly webinars on emerging
technologies (participation of ~4000 student members)
– National Tech Quiz- particpation of 40 Sbs, national finals in April 2011- prizes like windows phone, conference passes, internships etc
– Free passes to Microsoft Tech-Ed• Student members got to interact with
experts from Microsoft India and Redmond
– “Meet the geek” - selected students get to have a close interaction with an expert
PRESENT STATUS OF THE INITIATIVE
• HP– Started in 2011– On campus talk and interaction with
students – Plans to host more talks, webinars and
“Meet the geek” events
• IBM– Planning in progress
FUTURE PLANS
Get on board companies from different domains, verticals and specializations- electronics, electrical etc.
Expand the initiative to the other sections in R10
