EV reference number Description Remarks / Results Verdict

EV1 The compliance to IEC 61851-1 standard is compulsory. Either Ed. 2.0 or Ed. 3.0 of this standard can be used. --

EV2 Void N/A

EV3

If the station does not use a relevant equipment suitable for isolation according IEC 60364-5-53, (use of contactor, relay, thyristor,...) and whatever the IP level of the socket outlet or connector, any undesirable voltage presence at the output will activate an additional isolation function based on remote control equipment suitable for isolation according to IEC 60364-5-53Conditions of activation of the isolation function : State ANevertheless, in case of implementation of detection system that is independent of any voltage coming from the car, conditions of activation of the isolation function shall be acceptable also in state B. Evidence of this independence shall be presented to the certification body.

--

EV4 Void N/A

EV5In case of S2 (vehicle side) opens, the contactors of the EVSE must be opened in a delay of 100 ms maximum, which will ensure the lack of power supply of the vehicle.

--

EV6 Void N/A

EV7

In Mode TT and TN: The ground resistance of the installation must be lower than 100 Ohms or less if national regulations require it. Ground loop impedance measurement is recommended. In case of multiple connection with a common ground, it is necessary that the value of the ground resistance insures that the touch voltage will not exceed 50V.

Installation requirement only N/A

EV8

In Mode TT, if the ground loop impedance does not fulfil EV7 requirement, the local earthing resistance has to be improved by changing the existing rod or putting an interconnected extra rod. In case this approach is not successful, a transformer as defined in EV49 will be able to fulfil EV7 requirement.

Installation requirement only N/A

EV9Installation in mode IT is prohibited.A dedicated transformer as defined in EV49 allows modifying a mode IT locally by presenting to the vehicle a mode TN-S.

Installation requirement only N/A

EV10

The type of socket-outlet must be in conformity with the regulations in the country, in particular on the question of presence of the shutters. In case of socket outlet without shutters, locked closing door or equivalent could be also considered. In any case, supplier will have to justify the compliance with local regulation on that point. In case of attached cable, other measures will have to be taken to present equivalent protection (e.g. wallbox locked). This configuration is not recommended as the first one.

EV11

The choice of the type of connector on the domestic or private applications, integrated or distant from the charging station will have to be aligned on the requirements of regulation. If this one remained ambiguous, the choice will have to be aligned on the orientation taken for the public charging stations in the country. In the case of an unspecified impossibility to meet this requirement, then the charging station could be provided systematically with an attached or detachable cord. In all cases, the local regulation will have to be respected.

--

EV12

Each connection point shall be protected by its own RCD of performance at least equivalent to a type A with a residual operating current of 30 mA.In three-phase current, an additional protection against DC leakage current shall be integrated by either using a type B RCD or if the local regulation allows it, by using a RCD type A with the condition that the charging station is equipped with a specific protection device against the DC leakage current that could affect good functionality of this type A RCD.In all cases, it is necessary to ensure the proper coordination between the branch circuit-breaker of theoverall installation and the current and differential protections dedicated to the station. In the case of a charging station protected with a RCD type B, any upstream RCD that is not dedicated to the charging station shall be either type B or associated with a DC leakage current detection device which will preserve its correct functionality.Every type A RCD shall have a high immunity: type HPI, SI, HI, KV … depending on the supplier. In the case of high disturbed network (voltage harmonics higher than levels defined by IEC 61000-2-2 / THDU>8%), an immunity level higher than level 3 according to EN 61543 2006 A2 Table 5a is required. This higher level is defined according to level 4 of IEC 61000-4-16. This immunity requirement is also applicable for residual protection device included in ICCB for mode 2 charging.

Mode 2 charging current :1. In case of domestic plug without recognition of the socket, the charging shall be limited to 8 Amps. If the plug is equipped with a thermal protection the charging shall be limited to 10 Amps.2. In case of a domestic plug equipped with a socket recognition, the charging shall be limited to 14 Amps.If the plug is equipped with a thermal protection the charging shall be limited to 16 Amps.3. In case of an industrial plug according to IEC 60309, the charging shall be limited to 12 Amps. If the plug is equipped with a thermal protection the charging shall be limited to 16 Amps. However, these maximum values could be reduced according to national standards or regulations or advices.

A socket recognition system enables the charging system to detect the connection to an installation dedicated for mode 2 charging, with dedicated wiring and protection. In case of a plug equipped with a socket recognition, this recognition system must keep the interoperability with the regular domestic socket of the country.
