Sienar Fleet Systems (SFS) is a primemilitary contractor and the manufacturerof the Empires TIE fighters. A subsidiaryof Santhe/Sienar Technologies, SFS isacknowledged as one of the dominantfighter manufactures in the galaxy, although the success of the SkiprayBlastboat and the Interdictor Cruisermakes the company a major player in the

    capital ship market, as well.

Sienars TIE Interceptor is the Empiresnewest addition to its TIE series ofstarfighters.

After the destruction of the Death Starat the Battle of Yavin, Imperial comman-ders and pilots called a meeting with topImperial designers to decide how best tocounter the unexpectedly high level ofRebel daring and ingenuity as evidenced bythe performance of Rebel Alliance pilotsand machines during the combat. Aftermuch debate, the panel concluded that theEmpire needed a fighter that was faster, more maneuverable, and more lethal

    - a fighter, in short, that could far sur-pass the Rebellions X-wings and Y -wings.

The number of TIE Interceptors that haveactually come off the assembly line isunknown, but sources speculate that asizeable force is ready to fly.

Sienars most recent design is the ScimitarAssault Bomber which combined the bestfeatures of the TIE Interceptor, the TIEBomber, and Alliance starfighters tocreate a dedicated assault bomber, yetanother stunning success for the compa-ny.

The maximum speed of the new TIE Interceptorwas enhanced by increasing the size of thestandard twin ion engines and providing the

necessary additional power input by increasingthe size of the solar panels. This was avoidedin the original TIE series fighters to maximizepilot visibility, but in the Interceptor the panelshave been streamlined and reshaped. They utili-ze the new bent-wing format found on Vadersprototype craft, but are dagger-shaped insteadof rectangular to solve the visibility problem.

Firepower was increased by forward-mountingfour laser cannons on the tips of the modifieddagger-like solar panels and dispensing with

the twin chin-mounted cannon found on thestandard TIE Fighter.

Maneuverability was hard to improve upon; theTIE series already is one of the most maneuvera-ble crafts available. But a new system of ionstream projection was developed that allowsthe pilot to execute tighter turns and rolls, and the bent-wing and larger panels compensatefor any loss in stabilization.

Designed and built by Sienar Fleet Systems, the TIE fighter comes in a variety ofspecial-assignment models.

The original TIE starfighter was developedwhile SFS was still Republic Sienar Systems. The upgraded TIE was produced after thecompany came under the direct control ofthe Imperial Navy. The TIE/In is the standardfleet-based TIE fighter. It carries a separatepower generator for its laser cannons.

Twin ion engines provide the propulsion forthese fighters, which are controlled bya single pilot.
