Anothergreatyearforourchildrenandthefoundation.Iwilltrytosharesomeofthehighlightsandchallenges.About70%of children in the communities we work with now attendformalschool.Thesupportclasseshaveensuredadramaticriseinchildrenwhocontinueregularschooling.Theteachersin the school acknowledge and appreciate the rise inchildren’smathandlanguageskills.Wehavealsoseenariseinthebookspublishedby iF(IdentityFoundation)becomingpart of the regular school work. Awareness sessions aboutchild labour, child sexual abuses, child marriageenvironmental sustainabilityetc.arenowregular featureofour programme. Identity Foundation has evolved over theyearsasanenablerinsteadofjustaserviceprovider.Wetrulybelievethatempoweringourchildrenismoresustainableandnecessaryapproachthansimplyprovidingservices.Wealsohaveoursetofchallenges.Oneofthekeychallengeisthecornerstoneofourprogrammes-ourbuses.Theyaregettingoldandareattheendoftheir lifecycle.Weurgentlyneed to replace them. IdentityFoundation(IF)isacharitabletrust(E-3981-Pune)registeredwiththeofficeoftheCharityCommissionerofPune.IdentityFoundationhasbeenworkingwithunderprivilegedchildrensinceSeptember2003. Programme:ReadingClassCHILDREN:3360,BOOKS:13,217,SCHOOLSCOVERED:19Theorganizationhasbeenconductingreadingclassessince2006inthemunicipalschools.Presentlythereadingclassesareconductedin19municipalschools.Ateamofeducators(referredtoas“bookfairies”)carryalargerangeofbookswiththemtotheschoolduringtheschoolhoursandassistthestudentsbetweenthe1stand4thgradeinreadingthem.Thebookfairiesgotoeachclassonceaweekforonehour.Thechildrenaredividedintogroupsbasedontheirreadinglevels(readinglevelsaredeterminedthroughapre-testandalsotwopost-testsareconductedtofindthechangeinreadinglevels).Booksaredistributedasperthesereadinglevels.Inaddition,severalactivitiessuchassongs,stories,wordgamesetc.arealsousedtobuildtheinterestofchildreninreading.Objectives&Methodology:
