Chemical Engineering department of IIT Roorkee has been a
pioneer in the country in conductingresearch work. Now we bring to
you Ideaz-a paper presentation competition.
The cells for paper presentation are as follows:
A) Process Modelling, Simulation and Transport Phenomena
Chemical engineers develop new processes or modify existing ones
in order to optimize facilities;reduce costs or maximize profit;
improve operations with respect to flexibility, reliability,
energyefficiency and safety; and ensure quality control and address
environmental impact. These goalsare achieved by modelling and
systematically analysing industrial processes. The topics
includedin this cell are
1. Process Simulation and Modeling (Using packages like Aspen
Plus)2. Numerical Methods and Mathematical Modeling in Chemical
Engineering3. Computational Fluid Dynamics4. Equipment Design5.
Process Optimization6. Heat, Mass and Momentum Transfer7. Fluid
Dynamics8. Process Integration and Intensification
B) Energy, Environment, Safety Technologies
Within the purview of Chemical Engineering, quest for new ideas
is also strong in various otherareas too. There is a need to
utilize the technology with the efficient, safe, environmentally
friendlyand economical extraction, conversion, transportation,
storage and the use of available energy,targeted towards yielding
high efficiency whilst skirting side effects on humans, nature and
theenvironment. These goals can be achieved by using Energy,
Environment and Safety Technology.The topics included in this cell
are
1. Environmental Protection/ Pollution Abatement2. Renewable
Energy Sources and Development
3. Industrial Safety & Hazards Management4. Fuel Cells &
Bio Fuels5. Solid Waste Management6. Nanotechnology7. Material
Synthesis and Processing8. Novel Separation Technique9. Enzyme and
Biochemical Engineering10. Chemical Reaction Engineering (including
Catalyst Technology)11. Petroleum upstream and downstream
processing

General Rules1. Any undergraduate or masters student of any
discipline is eligible to participate in this event.However PhD
students and research scholars are not allowed to present their
papers2. Each team may have a maximum of three members.3. No team
is allowed to send more than one entry for the same departmental
cell, but you are
free to send multiple entries provided your papers are related
to different cells.
4. This event will be conducted in two stages and its detailed
procedures have been clarified
below.STAGE-I:
Abstract Submissions
1) Participants are needed to send in the abstract of the
original/review work including the
references, the idea proposed with figures (if needed)

2) Abstract should not exceed 500 words and the covering page of
the abstract must have
Name(s), Institution of study, Email address(s), contact
number(s), Name of the cell you wish to
present the paper in, & Topic of paper presentation, Cogni
ids of all the team members.
3)Your email should have the category name and your team id as
your subject and your file name
should have the title of the concerned paper.
For Example, A paper on simulation of a Hydrocracker unit in a
refinery unit should have its mail
subject as IDEAZ: Modelling, Simulation, Design and Process
Control: COG13/XXXXXX and its title
as Simulation of Hydrocracker unit.4)Selection to the next round
for final presentations will be based on the abstract
submitted.
5)Deadline for Abstract Submissions is 15THFebruary 2013. The
result for the first round will be
put up on the website till 20th February 2013 and will also be
mailed to you.

STAGE-II:
Full Paper SubmissionsThe second round will be conducted at IIT
Roorkee during COGNIZANCE 2013 (22-24 March).1)Participants should
submit their full paper in .doc and .pdf format. You need to bring
three
hardcopies of your complete paper (i.e. printed report) &
two passport size photographs of each
participant along with all the necessary details attached.
2)Formatting rules should be strictly followed. Afont type of
Bookman Old Style with a font size
of12 should be kept.
3)Participants should ensure that their papers include all
relevant figures, tables and bibliography.
4)Submissions, in any case, should not exceed 12 pages in
length, double-columned.
Final Presentations1)Final Presentations should be in .ppt
format strictly and should be timed for 15 min. (12
minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for Question and Answer
round.
2)The decision of the judges shall be final and binding.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
The registration shall be done through the Cognizance
website.
Steps
1.Each Member needs to register on the website. This will
generate a unique cogni id.
2.The Team Leader (which you will select yourself) needs to
login into the website through his
username and password.3.The Ideaz event page has the tab
Register to register the team for the event.
4.This will generate your Team Id and a mail shall be sent to
the mail id of team leader about the
registration.
