IDEA: Film Festival -Hold a Scout County Film Festival- Learning Objectives: Physical

• Discus how to organise a county event; dates, venue, communications, etc. • In your Crews discus the criteria for the films; How long should they be? What

Learning objective should the theme be? How many award categories should there be and who decides the winners?

• Write up a proposal to be given to County Reps/Programme Team. • Visit a film studio or arrange to have a guest speaker at one of your meetings to tell

you about the process of film making; storyboards, scripts, locations make-up, etc. • At your meeting have a brainstorming session to come up with some ideas for your short film and pick the best one. • Using what you learned at the studio/guest speaker, divide the Unit into smaller Crews to work on each of the aspects of the

film. • With the help of other Venture Scout Units in your Scout County start preparing the award ceremony, each Unit will have to

organise a different area of the night; decorating the venue, sound and lighting, catering, the awards, the after party, etc. • Join in and celebrate all the winners and party on into the night • At your next meeting have a review session, what where the best/worst bits? Did you learn anything new? Would you

consider a career in the film industry?

Venture Scouts at TRASNA phase

• Discus how to organise a County Event, you may need to ask a Scouter or your CPC for Ventures to your meeting for advice if it is your first time organising such an event.

• Decide on the layout and criteria for the film festival; - What format should the films be, music videos, short stories, trailers for a feature lent film, documentaries, etc? - What ‘Learning Objective’ or ‘S.P.I.C.E.S’ will you use as a theme? - How many award categories, best action, best leading male, best leading female, best special effects, best film, etc. - Who should be in the ‘Academy’? Scouters from other Sections, County Management team, etc. - Where could you hold the award ceremony?

• Write a proposal for the event and bring it to the next County meeting. Talk to the other Venture Units about your ideas, they might have something to add or different ideas that might work. Come to a compromise and report back to your Venture Unit.

• Arrange for your Unit to visit a film studio or to have an expert to come to your meeting, try to learn as much as you can about film making.

• Set out your meeting area for a brainstorming session to come up with ideas for your film, ensure everyone in the group has a chance to voice their opinion

• Divide the workload between your Crews; each Crew will be in charge of a different area of filming, lead your Crew and ensure everyone gets a chance to actively take part.

• When your film is finished submit it to the ‘Academy’ for judging. • Contact the other Venture Units involved, organise what needed to be done for the award ceremony;

- decorating the venue - catering - sound and lighting - the awards - mock-tail bar for the after party

• Share these jobs amongst the Units • Join in and celebrate all the winners and party on into the night • At your next meeting ask your Crew, what where the best/worst bits? Did you learn anything new? Would you consider a

career in the film industry?

• Arrange to meet the Crew Leads from the other Units in your Scout County and have a review session; - Did the event work for all groups? - How was the communication between Units? Should this be changed for future events? - Would you change the way county events are organised? - Could this be an annual event?
