iCourt Project Update

As the Idaho Judiciary moves to a modernized electronic court case manage-ment and e-filing system, it is crucial to collect active email addresses for all members of the Idaho State Bar to streamline electronic service between parties and Idaho courts. The Idaho Supreme Court is working in conjunction with the Idaho State Bar to collect this important information. Attorneys who have not already provided an active email address will need to visit the Idaho State Bar website, https://isb.idaho.gov/licensing/eservice_update.html, to designate their email address by December 5, 2016. Attorneys who have already provided this information do not need to take any action. Currently, when a case is electronically filed, the parties designate a service contact for themselves. This service contact is used for service of documents between the parties, but the court does not have access to it. And if an attorney fails to designate an email address there is no option for opposing counsel to search for it. This email address provided to the Idaho State Bar will be available in the e-filing system for attorneys to search and select the opposing counsel for electronic service. This address will be listed in the “Public Service Contact List,” similar to an email directory, enabling attorneys to easily serve each other. Attorneys will still have the ability to identify additional specific ser-vice contacts from their firm for each case. The Supreme Court’s e-filing rule will be amended to require all active members of the Idaho State Bar to designate and submit a single email for electronic service. The e-filing rule will state that the courts must use the designated email address for service of all notices or orders generated and served by the court. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Mehall, Court Operations

Manager, Idaho Supreme Court, at [email protected] or 208-947-7482.

Annual News Media Orientation Held in 7th Judicial District

As reported by Burt Butler, 7th District Trial Court Administrator

On November 18th District Judge Gregory Moeller and Magistrate Judge Ralph Savage reviewed and provided updates on the rules applicable to cameras in the courtroom, access to court records, and other protocols and procedures necessary to help both the print media and electronic media do their jobs more effectively, while maintaining a cooperative relationship between the judiciary and the media. Additionally, elected and deputy clerks were able to attend this orientation. The training was aimed at acquainting and updating new and experienced reporters, news directors, editors, and other media personnel with the applicable rules for effectively covering cases in Southeastern Idaho. The training reviewed the resources currently available to the media, and provided a preview of the exciting changes the judiciary’s transition to the paperless Odyssey system will bring.
