DESCRIPTION
A magazine showing the greatness of Indonesia in details.
Citation preview
The bid from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, to cut the
fuel subsidy that has driven the state budget into deficit, has
been approved by the parliament. After an epic debate, finally
the parliament voted to pass an amended state budget that
incorporates a substantial rise in the administered fuel price
and a package of measures to mitigate the impact on the poor.
This is the Indonesian biggest problem this year. About
600 members of Indonesia's biggest opposition party protested
against the government’s plan to raise the fuel prices.
If the fuel subsidy is cut, the poor will be suffered because
they can't reach food prices which also go up along with rising
of fuel prices. On the other hand, if the fuel subsidy is not cut,
the deficit of the state will grow higher. This makes Indonesia
will fall deeper because when the state meets the dead point or
very low financial cash, the state can't subsidize anymore.
The solution that we propose is a subsidy card. This card
shows the eligibility of citizens to receive a fuel subsidy under
the following conditions: pay taxes, categorized as poor, aged
17 years or above, etc. Hopefully the government of Indonesia
can know this alternative solution.

Raja Ampat Islands
Raja Ampat or Four Kings, located off the northwest tip of Bird's Head Peninsula on the island of
New Guinea. Also, Raja Ampat is one of the top ten most popular places for diving and number
one ranking in terms of underwater biodiversity.
Money: for about a day, the
minimum cost needed to go to
Raja Ampat (mainly from Jakarta),
we need for a Rp.6 million or
about 600 US$ per day. But,
it's really very unfortunate if we
only have a vacation in this
paradise just for one day.
Entry Point: for international flight, you can use the airport
in Jakarta (CKG), Denpasar (DPS), and Makassar (UPG), in
order to reach the destination city, Sorong. For domestic
flight in Indonesia, you can't go directly to Sorong, but from
several entry points. From Jakarta, the route is Jakarta -
Sorong / Jakarta - Ambon - Sorong / Jakarta - Makassar -
Sorong. From Denpasar, the route is Denpasar - Ambon -
Sorong / Denpasar - Sorong. From Makassar and Ambon,
you can go directly to Sorong.
History (Wikipedia): the name of Raja Ampat comes from local mythology that tells about a
woman who finds seven eggs. Four of the seven eggs hatch and become kings that occupy four
of Raja Ampat biggest islands whilst the other three become a ghost, a woman, and a stone.
History shows that Raja Ampat was once a part of Tidore Kingdom, an influential kingdom
from Maluku. Yet, after the Dutch invaded Maluku, it was shortly claimed by the Netherlands.
The main occupation for people around this area is fishing since the area is dominated by the
sea. They live in a small colony of tribes that spreads around the area. Their religion is
dominantly Christian.

Dreamland Beach, a tourist spot located in the south of Bali in an area named Pecatu. Also,
surrounded by cliffs and coral reefs. The steep rock is very perfect for enjoying the sunset. The
waves were very high. This is what makes this place to be surfing spot in Bali.
Dreamland Beach
Money: You will be surprised
when I tell you this. Only
Rp.10,000 or about 1 US$, you
can enter this location. It's really
cheap yet amazing. That’s why we
categorized this place as the
cheapest place in Indonesia.
Entry Point: for both international flight and domestic flight
in Indonesia, you can go directly to Denpasar (DPS). In
addition, Denpasar is also the capital and the most
populated city of the Indonesian province of Bali.
History (Wikipedia): the Pecatu villagers who once lived as farmers dreamed that the housing
and tourism projects are completed and they could pursue other business in the field of tourism.
The, the land around the beach called Dreamland.
This beach was originally just a small dot of area 900 acres owned by PT. Bali Pecatu Graha
(BPG). An area that was bought to be transformed into a resort "Pecatu Indah Resort". The
resort owner, Tommy Suharto, son of former President Suharto, wanted to create a "tourist
neighborhoods and unique place in the whole of Southeast Asia". This mega project began to
fade because of the monetary crisis and the loss of leadership credibility.

ParliamentAgreestoIncreasetheFuelPriceThe parliament of Indonesia has approved to
cut the fuel subsidy in order to keep the
budget within the limit. Fuel prices increased
up to 44 percent across Indonesia. The
subsidies are a significant drain on the
country's budget.
Maintaining subsidies “would have a
really bad impact” on growth by causing the
fiscal deficit to exceed the legal limit of three
percent of gross domestic product, forcing
cuts in more productive spending, National
Economic Committee Vice Chairman M.
Chatib Basri said in an interview with
Bloomberg Television in Hong Kong on March
23rd.
Indonesia is under pressure to show
progress in containing its budget deficit, as it
seeks a credit rating boost from Standard &
Poor’s to complete its return to investment
grade after losing the status in the 1997-98
Asian financial crisis. Officials from S&P visited
the country this week after raising the nation’s
bonds to BB+ a year ago.
“I’m hopeful that S&P will raise
Indonesia’s rating within this year, which will
bring in foreign investors again,” Ezra Nazula,
Jakarta-based head of fixed income who helps
manage 24 trillion rupiah at PT Manulife Asset
Management, said in a March 20 interview. “It
will be a plus point for Indonesia if the
government can show that they are willing to
increase the fuel prices and reduce the
subsidies’ burden on the budget.”
Indonesia’s state oil company PT
Pertamina (PERT) sells subsidized petrol at
retail stations for 4,500 rupiah a liter (about
$1.85 a gallon). Non-subsidized high-octane
gasoline costs as much as 10,000 rupiah a liter
($4.13 a gallon).
Parliament also approved the 2012
economic growth assumption of 6.5 percent,
inflation target of 6.8 percent, exchange rate
of 9,000 rupiah per US$ and crude oil sales at
930,000 barrels per day, Finance Minister Agus
Martowardojo said.
XboxOneWon’tWorkInIndonesia
Xbox one, an upcoming video game
console from Microsoft. As part of the eighth
generation of video game consoles, the Xbox
one will directly compete with PlayStation 4
and Wii U.
Initial reaction to the Xbox One was
mostly negative. Early reviews praised the
console's new features, while others had
criticized its lack of backwards compatibility
with Xbox 360 games, online connectivity
requirements, mandatory integration with
Kinect, and ambiguous restrictions on the
resale and sharing of used games.
The Xbox One will be region locked too,
only allowing games from the same region as
the console to be played on it–this does not
mean that playing with people from other
regions is restricted, you can still play with
friends from anywhere in the world.
Then, Xbox one will do online check in
24 hours. It is necessary to verify the consoles
and games to be played. And, again, when
Xbox One was launched in November 2013,
online check can only be carried out in 21
countries. Unfortunately, Asian countries,
including INDONESIA, are NOT LISTED.

ChristianoRonaldo,theambassadorofMangroveCareForumBali
Mangrove Care Forum Bali (MCFB), also known as Forum Peduli Mangrove Bali (FPMB), is
formed with the aim to protect, preserve, rehabilitate, replant and educate, as a concerted
effort to save the mangroves.
Cristiano Ronaldo, the famous Portuguese footballer, has been appointed the
ambassador for this movement to conserve mangrove by the Mangrove Care Forum Bali.
He came on board because of the mangrove forests’ ability to help buffer against tsunamis,
a cause he dearly supports after witnessing firsthand the devastation of the tsunamis when
he visited Aceh after the 2004 tsunami. He met up with the eight years old boy who was
found alive after 19 days at sea, dragged out by the tsunami, wearing a Portuguese football
jersey. Martunis survived on puddled water and dried noodles and was reunited
with his father and grandfather. His story was later recounted in a book
published by Radio 68H ‘Lolos dari Maut Tsunami’.
“I would like to thank the President and the First Lady,” he said.
“
“It's an honor for me to return to Indonesia. Earlier this year, Peter
Lim and Tomy Winata made me a proposal to be the ambassador
for the mangrove, and I was immediately attracted to the idea.
“I hope that my actions in Bali today can inspire the movement to
rescue the mangroves and help improve the environment."

By the way, do you know the symbol of
“Shining Batu”? This symbol indicates that
Batu city will shine in agriculture, tourism,
and education (the main vision of Batu city).
My journey began on
December 26th, 2012, the day
after the Christmas. By my
father's car, the gray one, my
small family and I went to the
island of wonder, called BALI,
Indonesia.
On December 27th, we
arrived at the Gilimanuk Harbor.
What a boring time! After one
hour of waiting in the ship, we
did our lunch at somewhere (I
forget what the name is). I
ordered Mie Ayam (Chicken
Noodle), but it was a regret
because it wasn't delicious
enough. My brother's food was
more delicious. He ate Rendang,
traditional food from Padang.
Huuumbb, it made me jealous.
LOL. Then, we continued the
journey.
Oh my God, we got tired.
So, the journey was stopped for
a moment at my aunt's home.
Cette nuit, we all had some fun. My brother and I took some
pictures. We used my father's Canon EOS. Wow, the result is
amazing. We were pretending as we were at the
discotheque bar. But, it's a fake. LOL. Tired. One word that
can explain how I felt. So, I went to sleep.
The next day, we went to Water Blow, Tanjung Benoa,
Bali. Unfortunately, Water Blow is no longer available to be
visited or in maintenance. But, we insisted to enter that
location. And, Wow! It's really cold and yet amazing.
The next place is Nusa Dua Beach, an enclave contains
big international resort. We enjoyed the sand, fresh air,
beautiful waves, and its sound. It just like heaven to me.
There is also de OPERA beach club, which is totally amazing.
When sun went down and the moon showed up, alias
night, my family and I went to Waroeng Kampoeng. Yes!
20
At midnight, we went to
the Discovery Shopping Mall. It’s
a luxury, enriched by beautiful
beach in front of the mall. We
bought some delicious breads.
Such a wonderful day, but my
clock resisted this moment , so
we came back to my aunt’s
home.
In the following morning,
we went to Pasar Sukowati, one
of traditional market in Bali.
There was so many traditional
arts, such as the statue of
Vishnu, the carving of Holy
Communion, colorful clothes,
and so much more. PS: it was
really cheap.
The next place is Sanur
Beach. Wow, the waves were
really ... really ... great!
Unfortunately, my brother was
bitten by an evil bee. Painful.
Pura Luhur Uluwatu or
Pura Uluwatu is the Balinese sea
temple, which is located in
Pecatu village, Kuta, Badung.
That pura is our next journey. It
was really HOT! Hinduism
believe that Pura Uluwatu which
is located at the southwestern
tip of the island is “Pura Sad
Kayangan”, the prop of nine
cardinal direction, meant to
protect Bali from evil spirits.
To enter Pura Uluwatu, we have to wear a yellow shawl or
purple sarong. It’s a must. But, don’t worry! Those things are
available at Pura Uluwatu. Just borrow it! See the picture
below! It’s amazing, isn’t it?
Hungry again! So, we went to Pasar Ikan Kedonganan,
a traditional market for buying fish. After bought some, we
brought them to the fish burner. Just wait for a moment, and
voilà! Finally, we had the Ikan Bakar (a burnt fish). Yummy!
Le lendemain, we went to Wonderland Beach. The
scenery is very beautiful. Unfortunately, there was
“Swimming Prohibited” sign because the waves were so big.
But, yet we still enjoyed the fresh air and the beautiful blue
ocean.
Besides Shiva, the Balinese people also worship Vishnu,
the Hinduism Supreme God. For tourism, they built Garuda
Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park (GWK) which is located on the
Bukit Peninsula at the southern end of Bali. Currently, the
statue of Vishnu is 23 metres. Although the original plan was
for a 146-metre Vishnu riding Garuda, King of Birds. It’s really
astonishing! Right there, we were were entertained by Kecak
21
at Amphitheatre, GWK. Kecak is
a form of Balinese dance and
music drama. The performers
percussively chanting “cak” and
throwing up their arms, portrays
an epic battle from Ramayana:
the monkey-like Vanara helped
Prince Rama fight the evil King
Ravana. It has roots in
sanghyang dance, a trance-
inducing exorcism dance. Scared
yet impressed!
Après cela, we went to Puja
Mandala. A complex of religious
buildings which are located in
Nusa Dua, Badung. There is
Masjid Agung Ibnu Batutah, a
place of worship for followers of
Moslem; Gereja Katolik Bunda
Maria Segala Bangsa, for
Chatolic; Gereja Kristen
Protestan Bukit Doa, for
Christian; Vihara Budhina Guna,
for Buddhist; and Pura Jagat
Nata, for Hindu. One place for
five religions which are
recognized in Nusantara or
Indonesian archipelago.
Okay, here we are! The end
of the story. Happy ending! You
want it too? Come and visit Bali,
Indonesia! It’s really
mesmerizing!
Bali is
really
